Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Offered a chance to put in bid for BNE-SYD on a el-cheapo airfare that are now hard to find.

3,000 QFF points and between $95 and $255

or

9,800 QFF points and between $40 and $200

So 6,800 QFF points are only worth $55? Keep dreaming....

Received an offer for OOL-SYD.

Points of 3,000 and cash between $95 and $250

For me on such a short flight, i'll stay down the back.

Just got a tap for my commute up to BNE later this week. Same price as what everyone seems to be reporting. I'll stick to buying toasters.

Parents of a friend got offered upgrade Y to J BNE/LAX a few weeks ago for approx.AUD1,135.00 & 5K points each which they accepted.

No idea what the whY fare bucket was they were booked in. They must be either NB or PS as they don't usually get lounge access but got to use the lounge in BNE as they were in J.

There were apparently quite a few empty J seats on their flight so obviously not full.

Just got offered PVG>SYD for minimum 5000 points plus $575. Normal upgrade is 30,000 points.

I can't update the spreadsheet as i'm in China and google docs doesn't work with my vpn playing up! Won't be putting an offer in.

Hey guys - not sure if this is a recent addition or not (first time I've seen it) - but now if your Y bid isn't accepted, you may get to bid to get to Premium Economy.
"If your Business offer is not accepted, try upgrading into Premium Economy@
On selected routes, should your upgrade offer for business not be accepted, you can now also place a bid for an upgrade into premium Economy. You can enjoy the following benefits:

  • More space and personalised service in an exclusive environment
  • Stretch out with more legroom and a footrest which extends from your seat
  • Rockpool inspired dining menus and a selection of snacks and beveragesΩ'

So taking to account the normal amount of miles required to upgrade a red-e-deal (10k), QF wants one to buy 200 points (10000 - 9800) for $40? :O

Got offered last week a bid now upgrade for TSV to BNE which I had a flexible Y booked. The suggestion was 3000 points and $150 to go to J. I ended up offering the 3000 points but lowering the $ offered down to $75, which the website rated on the cusp between the poor and very poor levels (or whatever the 2 red settings were). I'm SG so had lounge access already, have a reasonable amount of points (definitely enough for normal points upgrade if I'd wanted to), don't really care about the 3000 points (which of course net out lower than that anyway with the 800 points or whatever it was earned for the flight), and figured $75 was about the value I placed on having a better seat, food and wine on the short flight. Given how much I'd lowered the $ offer, I was surprised tbh that my offer ended up being accepted, even sat in row 1. This was the first bid now upgrade I'd tried, so 100% success rate so far I suppose. Seems like a good initiative

I have been offered a chance to upgrade my BNE-SYD trip next week.

The issue here is there is a SYD-BKK flight the next day on the same booking and I haven't been offered a chance to upgrade that flight. My guess is full flight again. I am really losing my patience with QF A330 routes into Asia.

But QF knows the competition is thin. Or do they?

BKK is always tricky to get U class award seats plus classic points upgrade requests granted so I would think the chance of them sending out paid upgrade offers is very slim.

I know. I was hoping, more like praying, I would be able to use my points to upgrade.

I can't keep flying out of the way to HKG with points and use cash to get to BKK. I spent last night trying to look for award flights to/from HKG, BKK and SIN for September, November and March next year. Nothing suitable. Some unsuitable slim pickings outbound but nothing for the return. It shouldn't be that difficult. I am trying to plan. I shouldn't have to keep calling Qantas to look for alternatives or asking for award seats to be released.

I have received a few upgrade bid offers for some of my flights pretty much around 7 days from departure give or take a few hours. However recently I have booked a flight that is within a few days (lots of J,C,D and I fares available) so prime candidate for a bidnow upgrade. Question is has anyone received a bidnow offer after booking less than 7 days from departure, ie does qantas only send them out at 7 days and thats it?

I still haven't got an offer either. Was expecting to get an offer for QF122 the other day as there were still at least 9 (out of 12) unsold seats in J the weekend before the flight. On board there were at least 5 empty seats. I would have upgraded. I wonder if it makes a difference that I was on a cheap sale fare?

Received yet another DOM upgrade offer, this time ADL-SYD June 7. Minimum points 3,000 with cash between $155-$390. Like JohnK, I'd much prefer the following SYD-BKK leg to get the offers, but alas, yet to have *any* sent out for those flights.

I'm really scaling down my QF flights for the rest of the year and will be switching to considerably more on CX. Won't be going out with a bang this trip flight-wise, but will be making the most of the lounge visits as my QP membership expires end of the month too!! :D

Upgrade bid offer received today. This was after receiving an email encouraging me to do a classic points upgrade for the same flight on Tuesday. This is for a SYD-ADL flight. But one slight difference is that it's part of a multi-city booking originating in SIN, the cash component is priced is SGD.

3000 points plus SGD160 to SGD410, upto 14700 plus SGD60 to SGD310. 11700 points to save SGD100. Roughly the same as my previously reported bid offer for the same route in A$, after accounting for exchange rates.

Added to spreadsheet, might be worth noting that it was in SGD not A$.

My thoughts are the same - will never see this offered for my regular A330 flights SYD-MNL...these flights are always 95-100% full in both Y and J!
