Well they may assume that, but why bother saying that you will receive a call and then not make one. They could just make simple arrangements for you to accept a 15 minute change in the schedule. That would make more sense.

I have never received a call about any of my ~15 minute schedule changes, even though the message says I will. Maybe they assume because it's such a minor change I won't mind, and they're correct.

I've had this a couple of times now with SQ, have received an email or in looking at a booking get the message that a flight has changed and they will call me. And then I wait, and I wait, and I wait. Fortunately it has never been urgent but in all cases I have ended up calling them before I have received a call.

Given SQ service is usually great I can't understand these examples when its at the end of the scale. Is it just some scenarios they just aren't sure how to handle so they just do nothing?

Unfortunately this is not limited to SQ. QF/US/UA - all of them can take their time to get hold of passengers after a change like this.

The supposed advantage of being on somewhere like AFF is that you can get in early and get dibs on the best alternative arrangements... but the key is to be prepared. Be prepared to show proof of the change, have your alternatives ready, and the price you are prepared to pay for those alternatives.

Yep, next time I will be better prepared. Lesson learned. I wasn't exactly half coughed, but close 'tuit.

No, not yet. I'm so loathe to call them up again. I'd so much prefer to have it in writing read by someone able to make decisions.

It was the number of miles as referred to by Cruiser Elite - which is in your account on line. Does it give any break down in your account activity (either the ticket itself, or the transaction history) about the charges (in miles)?

The etkt for LHR does not show any of that detail, it just says:

It looks like they have issued a one-way award LHR-OSL on partner airline SAS (SK). According to the award chart one-ways aren't supposed to be available on SK, but it seems they have done a manual override. The one way business class sward would be 27,500.

So it seems they have rerouted you to LHR free of charge, and added the OSL sector.

This was probably a semi-efficient way of charging you, considering you wouldn't have been eligible for the 15% discount on the standard 132500 star alliance award South Pacific-Europe if combining SQ with SK.

So this potentially leaves you with a few options...

  • request they cancel the LHR-OSL if possible and refund you the 27,500, and purchase your own flight to OSL.
  • re-route to AMS (via LHR or FRA) and change your existing ticket OSL ticket to a later flight if possible (but the fees might not make that worthwhile).
  • accept the LHR-OSL add-on and enjoy the protection of a single ticket.

Thanks for interpreting that. That's why I couldn't get it all on the one tkt in the first place and booked a separate Y tkt to OSL. Normally I would do everything on the one tkt. Of course the one time I can't it comes back to do a bum bite. At least I now have a J seat ex LHR, no more changes from me or them I hope.

Still have to do the CBR - SYD separatly so have to book that but waiting a while now. They wouldn't allow that either at the initial bkg stage.

So the outcome isn't too bad! If you had included the SK flight on the original booking it would have come to the same price as you're paying now, actually a bit more. So not too bad an outcome :)

Yes, I am quite content with this outcome. Pity I had already bought the Y OSL, but such is life.

So departing Milan on 11/09/16 in F seems like I might be affected? Heard nothing from SQ. Thoughts? Should I be proactive?

Eggs, if you are to be proactive as I was, suggest you get on top of all alternative options before making contact with SQ.

October long weekend

Suites x2 pax

Just for the Chilli crabs, Nasi Lemak .... and the Suites rides away & back

..... what's the points for anyway ?

Just wondering, I have found available saver fares for MEL-SIN (SQ218) on day 1 and SIN-LHR (SQ308) on day 2 , both in suites.

Rather than book 2 separate tickets (~180k miles), can I call up to get those 2 booked under the 1 ticket? e.g. for the points cost of MEL-LHR (132500 miles)?

Yep, you sure can.

If your stopover ends up being under 24 hours, you can have it booked at the MEL-LHR rate. But if goes over 24 hours you'll need to book them separately at the higher rate.

Otherwise, I believe you can pay $100 for a stopover on a one-way redemption, meaning you could still book it as MEL-LHR. Just depends if $100 = the difference in points for you.

Also as I have experienced myself they don't always charge the $100 for the stopover. I booked LAX-NRT (6 Day stopover) NRT-SIN-SYD for the same points as LAX-SYD with the online discount and no payment for the stopover. Not saying this is the norm but I can happen.

ninja I assume you are saying that you have searched both those sectors individually? Have you tried to search MEL-SIN-LHR as married sectors on the day of the MEL-SIN sector you searched? If YES and it displays both those 2 sectors when married as 'available' then book online. If it does not display the 2 sectors as married then YES call up and ask - there is no guarantee that the 2 individual sectors will be available to be 'married' but by all means ask. Good luck and please report back on your findings.
