has anyone had a recent flight in suites?

i'm contemplating going up to singapore for a long weekend and have enough points for 2 people one way... which leg would you choose?

the basics as i see it:
SYD-SIN
day flight so eat, drink and be merry
nice way to kick off a short trip

SIN-SYD
home airport for SIA, access to TPR
however, night flight so may not be in the mood to eat drink and be merry!
would get a good rest on the return and be fresh for work

cheers

I would personally go for SIN-SYD for the reason's you've listed.

FWIW I have cancelled my MEL-SIN in suites and gone for J on an earlier flight next Friday. As much as I wanted to go suites the timing suited better and this way I save some points and would really prefer to travel suites with the good lady.

IMHO definitely do the SYD-SIN leg - you really need to experience Suites in daytime - or at least stay awake whole duration of flight to appreciate the total experience.

As for SIN-SYD concept - TPR whilst fabulous - still is only a lounge - absolutely no point in being in Suites if it is going to be a one off and sleeping instead of enjoying the experience.

Agreed here. You get the full meal service as opposed to a supper service on a late night flight.

Yep, don't see the point just to mainly sleep, while its just a personal preference I'm fine sleeping in J, F for the whole experience for which I at least need to be awake.

God I love SQ.

Late last night finally received confirmation from our Chinese suppliers that they will have 2 x FCL product ready for inspection pre shipping from Suzhou / Nanjing on Wed Mar 13.

So onto SQ website to check flt availability - bummer - only flt available into PVG on 12th is SQ218/828 and even worse only Suite/F availability - double bummer.

J/K - how good is that for availability - Suite Saver / F Saver MEL-SIN-PVG 1 week prior to travel date at 78,625 KF pts - god I love SQ. Ret will be out of PEK on Mar 18 - no F though - only J - 61,625 KF pts - but SIN-MEL leg it is SQ227 (380) so flat bed rather than the later flt.

So onto booking seats - now check this image guys - 2C/2D are always blocked when you go to select seats - but you can secure them when checking in if you so desire.

But 3C always my favourite seat - RHD after all:

OK so the flt leaves MEL at 01:05 - so thats kip time so don't eat on the flt - but I did check BTC and Lobster Thermidor readily available:

But if you not into Lobster Thermidor - check down bottom of list of BTC - some scrumptious 'Toasted Multigrain Bread' available - yum yum:

Did I mention that I LOVE SQ?

Love it! Now im regretting cancelling my Suite's booking for Saturday. Always next time!

SQ has confirmed my booking in J but not ticketed yet as still waiting for the bloody miles to be refunded. Will be calling them again today!

If you have an hour 2 to kill in SIN - TPR great place to spend it - and brekky in TPR really good - scrambled eggs / bacon / sausage / tomato etc washed down with La Grande Dame kinda hard to beat.

But PVG/PEK flts ex SIN pre 9am they always serve you another breakfast UNLESS you BTC - so keep that in mind.

Again I am RHD - in standard F I always choose 2C - somebody else obviously wanted 'pole position' - most times SQ F not full - most times 2D also vacant so I get double seat - coz you guys know - those SQ F seats kinda cramped huh?

SIN-PEK Seat.JPG

I did peruse BTC ex SIN but nothing too special that time of morn:

Thought I would check the 'Dietary Meals' - strike me down - Cruiserette must be 'moonlighting' in the SQ kitchens - check the 1st offering in the 'Dietary Meals' - I did point this out to her last night - doctor tells me this morning pain, swelling and bruising should subside in a day or 2.

I think you are preaching to the converted.

It's less than a month out from Easter and I can seriously go onto the SQ website and look for travel options for Mrs Albatross and I for a migration over the Easter season. Try doing that with Qantas.

Have a great trip. My last time in TPR was also in transit to PVG. I had just done a gym workout and asked for a bottle of water. They wheeled the entire drinks trolley over to me, with the bottle of water so nicely presented. Felt quite an overkill.

Indeed but a litlle less preaching please, while I'm not of the hide it view I am of the view we don't want to shout it out for all.

My wife and I flew SYD-SIN in suites 3 days ago. Agree with what others said that full first class service need to be experienced fully awake. Not a single minute did we feel bored. They also seem to have friendlier crew on long haul flights and will try their best to make you enjoy the entire flight. On red-eye flights the focus is on making sure you get a good rest (if you wish to of course). Big difference.

Still need to keep your options open.
Surprisingly couldn't get 2xJ or F SQ seats SYD-SIN at a realistic rate for the new year break but could get two cheap JASA's on QF. J's in SLK were abundant SIN-USM.

Damn Citi doing their darndest to throw a spanner in the works though!

Interesting they haven't opened up yet the 2 F Saver seats for the MEL-SIN route. Nor for the internal SIN-HKG route. Maybe MEL is still coming, or maybe they already have the numbers in F on that route.

Spizz you could get that second seat on a different plane like one out of MEL or SYD running at about the same time.

hi all,

having a bit of a play with LHR-SYD and having trouble finding 2 * F on A380s the full way through. if you could have the A380 for the longer leg (LHR-SIN) and then the 777 for the shorter leg is it still worth the points? there seems to be consistent availability doing it this way, but always waitlist if wanting A380 full way through.

admittedly this is based on a search range of about 2 weeks in March 2014 so perhaps i need to dig a little deeper.

the thought of QF F to LHR and SG F back on points is just a tad bit exciting

From Perth there is no A380 and getting to Singapore in a 777 is not a problem. For us the long haul Suites is wonderful out of Singapore.

Just finished my first Suites itinerary - an epic 3 segment, 32 hour journey JFK-xFRA-xSIN-MEL. Would have to be one of the longest "practical" (i.e. not something with major backtracking, e.g. JFK-xFRA-xSIN-JNB or similar) routes SQ fly, no?

Anyway, all I can say is "wow". Such a good experience - easily tops my other F flights to date (a mix of QF, CX and TG), despite them all being great. SQ, as usual, have got it just right - service, food and champers/wine are all spot on, and the hard product is fantastic. The giant leather seats and elegant cabin decor just reek of class (much more so than the F cabins of the aforementioned airlines), the bed is more comfortable than any other I've experienced on a plane, and the suite is switches between open and spacious or private and secluded simply by opening / closing the doors and blinds.

Not unusually, from what I've read, the loadings were very light on all segments - 2 pax, 4 pax, 2 pax on each flight respectively. On the final SIN-MEL segment I was in 3A and my cabin-mate was in 3K, so after take-off one of the FAs raised all the centre dividing screens and delighted in informing me that the left side of the cabin was for me to use as I pleased, and the right side for the other passenger. A lovely touch - and just one of many "little things" the leads me to say SQ have got it "just right" above (my other favourite was every time I headed headed for the bathroom, one of the crew would dart out of the galley and hold the bathroom door open for me :)).

Thankfully, I have another Suites flight to NRT booked for later this year. I'd booked the return in J to save a few points, but after this experience I honestly think I might cancel the J and book R on the way home too (despite the NRT-SIN segment "only" being in F).

Really nice trip there. How many points was that one? And what routing/carriers did you use to get to get to JFK?
