smit the points you quoted here are before 15% discount for online booking.

F on 77W and 773 identical product except 773 has overhead bins whereas 77W does not - no bins = RRPITA - you are expected to slide your HL under ottoman in front of you. Cabin on 773 also bigger - you can easily walk behind 2C / 2D from aisle to aisle. I prefer 773 to 77W for those 2 reasons. 77WN is the NEW F so if by chance you can snag this will be a bonus - I have yet to experience it.

If you are connecting 237 layover only 1hr 35min - you may be able to get 217 or 227 next day if you want to o/n in SIN and enjoy another day flt - sleeping in SQ F seems such a waste. Having said that I will be sleeping on 237 on Feb 11. Can you see availability 2 x F Savers on 380? Ex PVG it seems harder to get F Savers than ex PEK.

Hi CE

Thanks for your replies.

Im looking at SQ833 connecting to SQ237 which gives a 1 hour 50 min connection. Just enough time to stick our heads into TPR and see what the fuss is about? There are 2 Suites Savers available for 833 which Im keen to grab if I can.

217 the following morning is waitlisted already. I know sleeping in F seems like a waste but given we have a 5.5 daytime A380 flight to enjoy Im not that fussed. I'll prob have supper, sleep a few hours then have breakfast. We have the following day off so can go home to catch up on sleep.

The 15% discount reduces it to 78.5k one-way pp - this is incredible value! This is a fairly good use of KF points yeah?

Whats the policy with mixed class bookings? I might even do Suites on 833 and J on 237 if its a significant discount over F/F given that the second flight is much less important than the first.

smit that plan has 1 serious flaw and that is if you do mixed class redemption then whole of redemption is priced at highest class rates - 1 sector F / 1 sector J - you will pay F rates for entire journey - best you take F both sectors huh?

What dates you looking at? I have 833 / 227 booked mid Feb and its showing 1hr 35mins layover - neither here nor there really if 833 leaves PVG on time - PVG not as bad as PEK which has delays 80% time - I have even missed connection with 237 but no biggie as SQ will house you in CP o/n and stick you on 1st F available:

So you have 217 waitlisted? This can be good plan cause if it confirms you can modify your booking online or a simple call to KF call ctr and they will do it for you.

Good grief - really? You will have FULL meal service PVG-SIN - if I really need food then much better to eat in TPR IMHO - then I sleep all the way - or maybe breakfast if I wake - but supper as well - I could never handle that much food.?

If you get the old F (not yet refurbished), it is boring, dated and tired furniture.

Everything looks & feels 100 years old !

I'd aim for the 777-300ER where it is expected to have the newly refurbished seats.

I had the refurbished A380 suite a few weeks ago and yes, the seats are now firmer.

Thinking of booking my partner and I in First/Suites from PVG-MEL using KF points as a surprise. J is 72.5k KF while F is only 92.5 KF. There is A380 from PVG-SIN available and then from SIN-MEL both 77W and 777-300 are available in F. I only know the difference between the J seating on these two 777 variants (significant) - is there much difference between the F experience? I know the A380 F is significantly better but there's no A380s to MEL and only waitlist to SYD.

By the way, when searching for award flights on the KF website, does this already apply the 15% online discount or is it applied later?

Anything else I should be wary of? I've never redeemed KF before!

That is your opinion legroom but IMHO I think you might be a tad over the top with that one - and to best of my knowledge it is only new 77W which have new F - existing 77W are not being re-furbed as yet.

Are thede ever 3 suites seats released for redemption.

2 Adults and 1 infant..

I can get 2 Adults but then paying 10% of the fare for an infant is annoying when you don't earn FF points. .

Thanks CE - I'll stick with all flights in the same class then!

I won't tell you the exact date because I dont want anyone to snap up the seats (!!) but its within the next few months. 833 is 16:45-22:05 and 227 is 23:55-09:20.

I'd be very happpy if we missed the connection and SQ overnighted us. I assume they dont provide accom for F award overnight connections? (I dont think any airline does - not even OZ and they used to be famous for it). I'm not that fussed whether SIN-MEL is overnight or the next day - after having a meal and a few drinks it doesnt make much difference to me whether I'm sitting up watching a movie on a day flight or sleeping on an overnight flight.

I've read FAQs about waitlisting and understand you can book an available award seat and wailist a more preffered one at the same time. The only question I have is, can I do this with only enough KF miles in my account for one award seat? I.e. redeem miles for the available seat and then they swap it to the more preferred one if the waitlist clears? Or do I have to have enough miles for both seats as if I wanted to book both flights separately.

Is SQ217 77W certain to be new/refurbished F?

You are right.

I was thinking of new 77W.

The refurbishment starts this year (2015)

http://www.ausbt.com.au/singapore-airlines-new-first-business-class-for-boeing-777s

I was unlucky to score the boring/dated/tired F two weeks ago which IMO was worse than the refurbished J seat I had three weeks prior.

But my wish for the A380 ride was dashed by .... who did not want a longer stopover @ SIN !

Who says "happy wife, happy life" ??

Yes they will if missed connection due to delay on arrival.

You can't waitlist unless you have sufficient miles in your KF acc to redeem the award if it does indeed confirm.

But if you are booking an available award and waitlisting a preferred, you would only want to end up with one seat - wouldnt they just swap your booked for your preferred? Or do they book the second seat and then you have to go and cancel the first?

Just booked Paris to Sydney 2 Adults 1 infant . There is no way I would trade the $1000 odd infant fee for 112625 points . That would have to be one of the worst value per point possible.

I have regularly had bookings where a different flight time or different married sector was more preferable than my confirmed booking. The best way I have found to get around this is waitlist preferred booking - remember you must have sufficient pts in your KF acc to do so - then if my preferred booking confirms just call KF and explain situation and ask them to help you make the change - this is easier than cancelling original booking and waiting for refunds - have never had a problem with KF assisting this process - and still retaining the 15% disc.

So was Std F really that bad or you just feeling the need to vent a bit cause you still have the sh*ts with the fact that wifey actually rules your roost?

1725-0920+1 is plenty of time to head into town, to meet up with friends for for dinner and a drink around Marina Bay. I'd even suggest staying around in town if the Crowne Plaza Airport is expensive that night. Taxi to/from airport is relatively cheap and in the morning, leaving the hotel to airport around 6am will encounter very little traffic and you will be there in no time.

0325-2040, I'd be tempted to suggest staying at one of those paid airside transit hotels. Pay for 6-8 hours so you can sleep from 0400-1200. Should cost less than 100SGD however for that price, the lodgings will feel very dormitory-like. Could easily head into the City once again.

There's lots of suggestions around for what to do in Singapore during long'ish transits, however drinking, eating and meeting people will easily fill in your time there.

Great suggestions and thanks to you and the others who've replied.
I've booked into the transit hotel for the early hours arrival and will decide on the other one on the day - hotels are easy in Sing so I'll take pot luck. And yes, with those sorts of transit times a trip into the city is definitely on the cards.
Thanks again,
Peter

It was really bad. Period.

Everything - table, tray, belt etc... looks tattered at the edges.

Given a choice I'd go for the refurb J in a heartbeat (and save some miles, too).

Sure, the service is more attentive and the loo is much wider etc... but the seat itself is quite dated which takes away the oomph factor in F.

No.

I didn't because my thinking is this is part of the deal / furniture / hardware aging, not a specific fault of the seats / flight as such.

Plus, we all know they have the renewal program going on.

Last year, I asked to move suite because the side panel came loose - again, due to aging.

I guess once you have tasted the new / refurbished products, others start to look "pale" in comparison.

It's all relative, of course.

Did you point out these problems to IFS? Did you send feedback to SQ on your return?

Thanks all for your assistance – just booked 2 pax PVG-SIN A380 F and SIN-MEL 777-300 F. It worked out to only be 105k VFF points (transferred to KF) + $330 per person which I thought was excellent value given how easy VA points are to earn. I’m going to keep it as a complete surprise to my partner who thinks we’re going SQ J until we get to check in and he says ‘you’re in the wrong check-in line – that’s for First Class’.

Was able to seat assign both flights – no seats were taken so selected 3CD for A380 and 1CD for 777-300. I’m guessing there’s really no bad seats in such a small cabin?

This was my first KF redemption and was only possible thanks to the VA:SQ transfer offer. Apart from the fairly high surcharges levied by KF I’m pretty impressed by the KF program – the availability is amongst the best I have seen in any program. Even TG would struggle to give me 2 x F seats with only 4 months notice.

Perfect smit - congratulations - enjoy and pls do post your travels.

FWIW I prefer 2C/D in F only because from there you have great view of entirety of F cabin - but either way you will love it.
