Thanks all for your assistance – just booked 2 pax PVG-SIN A380 F and SIN-MEL 777-300 F. It worked out to only be 105k VFF points (transferred to KF) + $330 per person which I thought was excellent value given how easy VA points are to earn. I’m going to keep it as a complete surprise to my partner who thinks we’re going SQ J until we get to check in and he says ‘you’re in the wrong check-in line – that’s for First Class’.

Was able to seat assign both flights – no seats were taken so selected 3CD for A380 and 1CD for 777-300. I’m guessing there’s really no bad seats in such a small cabin?

This was my first KF redemption and was only possible thanks to the VA:SQ transfer offer. Apart from the fairly high surcharges levied by KF I’m pretty impressed by the KF program – the availability is amongst the best I have seen in any program. Even TG would struggle to give me 2 x F seats with only 4 months notice.

I surprised my wife with a "J" read F trip last year. Mini UXB (aged 8 ) loves to here the story of mummy UXB at the SQ checkin insisting she was " prebooked in 11K, and where exactly is 1A in business class anyway".
Enjoy the surprise
Cheers Danger UXB

As with Danger ( and probably a lot of others), I surprised the missus with Suites when she thought we were going Premium Economy. She was really hoping for business as she's never been. Kept the surprise going from the check in line, as she had no clue what suites was. Even after First lounge, which I explained I had passes for from my credit card, and only until we were escorted from the gate to the suites did it click for her.

When we did the check in, as there was only 1 dedicated Suites line at MEL and it was being used, we hoped into the free J line and they processed our check in with the correct coloured BP. So you can still keep the surprise up and line up in J line and get the BP before she see's it, then hand in your passport and BP together at immigration, then distract her at the lounge as you enter so she doesn't see the First Class Lounge sign as she walks past it. Keep the surprise going until you get to the suites ;) and earn major brownie points

I'm not sure I could keep it up all the way to the plane - he would twig when we got into the FCL on a J ticket.

Assuming the flights are on time I'll have 1:50 in SIN transferring SQ F to SQ F. What would people recommend we do in that time? Usually if travelling J we have a quick shower in T3 SKL but usually don't bother eating anything. I assume there's only one meal on PVG-SIN (dinner?) for a 5:20 flight so should we have a light meal in TPR? Will we have time?

Smit yes only 1 meal PVG-SIN but it's a full meal. Don't forget to collect your Changi $s if they are still in existence when you travel. YES similar deal as J lounge - deplane / head to lounge / collect Changi $s on way / find your way into TPR / shower / drink VCLGD Champs / head onto dining area to select your meals if you feel like eating - perfect, simple and straight forward - enjoy.

With Changi $s you will need to check expiration date - if you not heading back through SIN before they are due to expire you will need to spend them. Now there is 2 types of Changi $s - on your PVG-SYD/MEL journey you are eligible for 2 x $20 vouchers - but one of those vouchers only redeemable on tobacco, liquor and cosmetics. You are screwed if you want liquor on that short transit so pre-plan. Have fun!

Sorry, he*, my bad, didn't read your post properly. I reckon the surprise gets bigger and better the closer you get to suites ;) It wasn't my intention to keep the surprise going that long, I just played along with it.

I thought she'd find out at check in. She was hoping for J flights so I pretended we did get J and headed towards J, as suites was next to J. Then told her no we're not in J, and headed for the suites lines, which she didn't take notice of as she saw we weren't heading for the J line, she was a bit sad. From there it was my goal to distract her from everything F related and the absurd excuses to justify why we had these perks until we got on the plane. It was quite fun messing with her :D.

A 2hr connection goes by really quick in TPR as Cruiser has mentioned.

very inspiring stories on this thread, have slowly amassed enough points for a ow suites saver, now to get the second and to surprise the mrs, would love to do a suites run to CDG or FRA/JFK (i don't think it'll be easy, being ex sq cabin crew i have a feeling shes across all the service offerings!).

On that topic, are there any particular routes that are better / worse than some on suites?

Just booked Paris to Sydney 2 Adults 1 infant . There is no way I would trade the $1000 odd infant fee for 112625 points . That would have to be one of the worst value per point possible.

Yes indeed..... I should have said 2 adults and 1 child....

As there are no child fares in first or suites..

So I need 3 seats in a few years on FF points...

I told my partner that we will be flying J from SYD-SIN-NRT-LAX and she was disappointed LOL After four year of playing with USDM, AA, LM and QF points and travelling F where we can, J seems like an awful downgrade for her. But I remind her that we have flown long haul Y too when its too cheap just to fly it (eg. Cebu Pacific $99 SYD-MNL,SYD-HNL with JQ multiple times) and that J is much better than Y, and SQ J is much nicer than most airlines with J. When we go to the F check-in lines she will know straight away that we will be flying F, but for now, I pretend we are flying J.

CDG and ZRH are most of the time a little easier to find redemption on, to a lesser extent LHR is also possible. FRA/JFK is notorious for being the hardest route to find a saver seat on. I have often waitlisted it and either nothing or the waitlist on the 77W to FRA comes up.
I am as I type this in the SQ F lounge MEL awaiting SQ228 then on to MUC 77W.The return next weekend is in suites from LHR on SQ321

Flying can be so much fun with a little imagination, a little cunning, and the wise use of points. Let's hope the others keep redeeming toasters.

You could line up in J if you really wanted to and get checked into F via the J line.

And the best part of Suites is that you never have to tolerate the antics of the ME ME ME brigade who refuse to yield to common courtesy and pull their bloody window shades down!

Gee. I guess that is one reason to fly suites. Although I could probably think of about 100 better ones.

But just so we are quite clear, (as I would hate to do the wrong thing) are you worried about people refusing to yield to common courtesy AND refusing to pull their bloody window shades down? Or refusing to yield to common courtesy by actually pulling their bloody window shades down?

Shows how much I know, I don't even know which is the correct etiquette.

Or let them just pay for their revenue flights using the Pay With KF Miles option ;)

Good idea, might do it if the lines short.

Again another reason why you would fly no other carrier - as soon as Seat Belt sign OFF crew will walk cabin and pull shades down - did I ever mention that I love SQ?
