Sydney Airport- A National Disgrace

The main runway being lengthened into Botany bay was part of the whole project. My father was the Project director
...
the Sydney airport project was brought in on time and under budget unlike Tullamarine.
According to my Googling, you're talking about the project which allowed the Queen Of The Skies to land & meet the Queen Of Australia at the new international terminal in 1970?

Being under budget tracks, PwC wasn't even formed until 1998.
How they retroactively affected Tullamarine I'm not sure ... oh wait, Macquarie Bank's predecessor started in 1969, they were probably involved.

How are all these people getting rejected from the T-bus?

It was my understanding no boarding pass is required. In any case, QF advertises the T-bus as an alternative option - fairly certain there is a sign at Gate 15, as well as on the online airport guide "To check if a Qantas Seamless Transfer is available to you, check with staff in Sydney or at your initial check in. If unavailable, alternative options include the free Sydney Airport T-Bus, paid train services or paid taxi. Ensure you allow enough time to collect your baggage and check in for your onward flight."

The other stupid thing is the T-bus stops at T3 as well as T2. If it's not available for QF pax, why is there a stop?

98 was when the merger between PriceWaterhouse and Coopers&Lybrand happened, so existed before just as two competing entities (with accounting and consulting functions)

IIRC the construction of T1 was over budget.

It was supposed to have a public observation deck. Was that cancelled early in the. Instruction or incorporated into other use?
You are a youngster. The original construction was not over budget but the 2 major "improvements since certainly were and the public viewing terrace was originally part of the design for the 2010 redevelopement. And it was delivered.

I've never been up the observation deck. I had always thought it was not built. Thanks.

.... sounds like it's landside...

I'll try and find the article about T1 going over budget...

Perhaps you should ask the T-bus operators, all I know was that we were denied access to the bus. Maybe if we hadn’t mentioned that we already had a boarding pass we would have been allowed on. dunno

Of course the owners have not covered themselves in glory having decided in 2011 that they had better serve international flights better. They came up with a plan in 2013.

In 2015 they asked the federal government for permission to develop a Masterplan for the airport redevelopement to 2033. It can be accessed by clicking the link under T2 T3 ground access plans here.

So in 2017 they came up with this plan.

Was set to start soon and have definite plans by 2019. Didn't happen so the Government gave them until March 2022 to finalise the plan. but in October they asked the Minister to give them another extension which they got so plans now to be finalised in March 2024 and the Project is now out to 2039.

And here is the link to the masterplan as it was then.

Don't think I will see it happen.

The one I’ve been to was landside & outside, but this was before the extensions that were done … 35-odd years ago? I remember the big poxy binocular thingies that you put 20c coins into.

Wonder why they have waited so long, if some cars have been there since 2018?

Given the. Astronomical fees normally charged for parking, interesting max fee is $500, anyone going on an extended trip could exploit that loophole.

I think Melbourne Tullamarine is worse than SYD, since we don't have an airport rail link, and looks like we never will, which is a disgrace for a big city like Melbourne.
I agree. Terminal 4 is the pits, kerbside if you look closely there is just rubbish littered in the bushes and gutters.

The whole airport needs to bulldozed and essentially purpose built on the other side.

The train saga is just embarrassing.

Yup, and even Perth and Brisbane have airport rail links, just totally unacceptable.
