Then why is the same side of politics opposing welfare being paid into a debit card which can only be spent on certain products?

.....

Probably horse racing industry wanted the pokie gambling money to go to them?

Yes, it's a matter of politics

When the free enterprise party supports a position contrary to free enterprise of a public Government-run organised process while the party of organised labour supports a free enterprise approach to handing out taxpayer funds (and welfare isn't the first nor last on this) you know it's not about policy....

50% vote to Libs
33% vote to Lab

Stark contrast

Graham Woods: Wotif (sold it). He's a greenie businessman and gave that massive donation, which wasn't disclosed at the time if I recall correctly.

Yet the greens keep banging on about the donations the Libs get.

Oh, there was also the leadership challenge and party ballot some years ago that the Greens sort of forgot to tell anyone about. Full disclosure.

He sold Wotif to Expedia. All roads lead to Rome.

Labor leader Bec White Edit: started out giving a very good concession speech. I'm really puzzled as to why she wasn't more front and centre in the campaign.

It deteriorated the more she went on.

Labor has lost votes to Greens for decades. 2 Elections ago, Greens had about 21% of popular vote. About 10% this time, as forestry issue has gone away, but following a national trend. Labor has picked those votes up in the past 2 elections and have won a seat from them and probably one from Libs (where they held an unsustainable 4 seats out of 5 in Braddon).

Oh, now Bec is having a whinge about being out-spent. Of course Union spend isn't counted, is it?

She's telling us all sorts of thing the electorate has told 'us' (support for Labor policies). What they have told 'us' that the same mob as before got re-elected in majority, with all their policies. She's embarrassing herself, but good appeal to supporters. She's under threat for Leader by old stager Michael O'Byrne

Its an election speech - as I noted above, she's under leadership challenge now.

No mention of the challenger in her thank-yous! (and no mention of Will Hodgman or the late Vanessa Goodwin, either ...)

its sounding like Rudd's 'concession' speech. "We won!!!" ....

Still not finished. Losers should go out with thanks, dignified.

3 cornered contests means political alliances. This whole we will govern alone or not at all is so childish...I'm not sharing my toys with anyone.

We have a lot to learn from Europe (Netherlands, Germany and Italy) where political alliances are normal.

Australia, its time to grow up

3 cornered?. Who was the 3rd corner?.
Alliances have been a common feature of Australian politics.

I think you misunderstand the situation in TAS. because of the small total numbers, getting a majority is V difficult. And when the third party is the Greens, its a disaster. Labor formed a coalition with the Greens in their last government (in spite of saying beforeand that they wouldn't) and they eventually broke up, with Labor swearing NEVER AGAIN. They got wiped out in subsequent election.

Both parties had to say 'majority or nothing' to emphasise the need for not allowing Greens or independents to hold them to ransom.

They would have tried to form a minority government (no coalition), but it would fail, and we'd be back to the polls soon.

Labor lady on ABC panel seems to be saying that Bec White wasn't giving a concession speech.

Green leader apparently next up. Let me predict: Evil gambling lobby, we wuz robbed, dark forces in play, 'pokies barons' (this is a favourite phrase of theirs) will take away your first born, yada, yada, yada ..

They who lost 1/3 of their party room.

Under their election system, I think a majority tends to be formed when a party manages to garner a plurality of seats in a plurality of divisions rather than relying on alliances. Alliances usually mean special interests get more power than they are entitled to.

So the majority or minority power is checked.

It’s quite a good system when you think of it a bit

.....
Labor spokesman now said Hodgeman has lost his majority. I’m really confused. Lab didn’t lose and Lib didn’t win?

I reckon there's a chance that Libs won't get that majority.

Weird things can happen with the 5th seat in an electorate when things are finely balanced. It comes downs to who gets eliminated from the bottom first. Basically if you are relying on preferences, you gotta keep above the others, and get them eliminated first. And when it comes to 5th or 6th preferences, who knows where the vote will go.

Cassie O'Connor, Greens Leader just coming on to great cheers from the Tally Room floor.

Listen, and remember that she just lost 1 of her 2 colleagues.

Shes going the full Aboriginal thing, first off. Murder, occupation, give land back etc etc. Bizarre, but that's the Greens. She looks angry.

Congratulated Will Hodgman, which is more than Labor leader did. Points for that.

Yes I believe the 5th seat in a division may not even need a quota even with the surplus coming their way.

Greens leader telling the Libs that they "NO MANDATE" for their policies!! Which somehow she says were kept from the electors, but she seems to know all about.

Sour, sour, bad loser. Typical Greens.

They should lose Party status in Tas Parliament. Its up to the Parliament, I think.
