The news is on a special announcement mode with live updates and discussions from security experts etc.

A horrible situation unfolding in Paris, merely 4 hours away from where we are. It probably touches more in the Swiss Romand since we also share the same language.

French border to be closed, Paris essentially in a lockdown with movement to be severely restricted.

Hollande calls this "a horror" to say the least. Army and any available forces to be mustered in response.

Just awful. :(

For any Parisiens or French on AFF, or anyone there at the moment, please take every care and stay safe.
 
were only there 6 weeks ago and going back in 4 weeks - found Paris to be alive and busy as always. maybe next time will be different... our heart just aches for the french people

Reports of at least 100 hostages at the Bataclan. Apparently special forces are going inside, the French are experts dealing with these kind of situations, hope all ends well!

Latest reports are that the Bataclan hostages situation has been resolved, but not before the terrorists threw explosive in amongst the hostages. What an evil act.

I was having lunch with a political journalist in Paris three weeks ago and while discussing the post-Charlie Hebdo security climate in Paris he felt that the French security services were now better equipped to face terrorist threat...

A very sad day :(
