Thai A350

My TG465/466 around Christmas has been changed from a 77W to a 359. We'll see if it actually happens. Not holding my breath.

Might have to check my booking, I've got TG462 on the 27th..

Edit: No change.. that would be logical on the overnight flight :)

I'm looking at United MileagePlus redemption in business early November and there is very limited availability from SYD/BNE on the date I want but there is availability ex-MEL on the A350 midnight flight.

Would would choose the A350 over a 747? I would need to make my way down from BNE on the Wednesday night which is not cheap. It may also be the only opportunity for TG A350 as the remaining redemptions will be with wife and daughter and not draggjng them via MEL.

I'm not sure the A350 will be flying by then. My recent itinerary receipt from UA shows the flight as a 777-300 (full flats), even though the TG site and the UA booking tool show the A350. TG has been listing the A350 on a rolling basis in their schedules for the last year, usually two months n advance, changing it back to the 77W closer to departure.

However, in any event, the 77W has full flat beds, the 747 angled lie flats. The 77W is far superior. I'd take the T466 from MEL, knowing it's likely to be full flat. Do not take the TG462 which is going back to angled lie flats soon.

if you end up choosing the 747, downstairs is the place to sit. Ultra wide aisles, private cabin (as private as first class in the nose), huge overhead bin space, dedicated crew and WC for 14 pax.

Think I've already done the TG 747 and A340. I'm not too fussed on lie flat or fully flat. I may try the 777 if the A350 is not ready yet.

Obviously you're not too fussed about privacy either.

I think the lie-flats on the 77W and the A350 are the same. Looked like it when I walked through the A350 J cabin exiting the plane this morning.

I think for all intents and purposes they are the same. Maybe cosmetic differences.

Is this possible?!?!? Could it be the A350 is finally coming to MEL? The TG website shows the A350 becoming operational from 1 October, and seat maps match.Usually by now TG would already have filed aircraft substitution.

Guess we'll have to wait and see one more week.

Yup, I noticed that recently as I'm flying BKK-MEL on 2/10 and was checking out loads...unfortunately I'm on the 461 though. :(

I'm going to say yes...it will happen this time!

It's arrived! Inaugural flight landed this morning. Water cannon salute. But apparently no goodie bags (at least for those in coach). This is scheduled to operate TG465/6. TG461/2 remains as a 77W until 29 October when it then switches to a 772.

No goodies in J either was in 1J. It was not a brand new aircraft, looked like it has done a few miles already. Very subdued flight coming into Melbourne and even out of BKK i thought it might have come out of a D gate but we were out of E5. Saw the trucks on landing and i thought something was on so took these snaps.

The no goody bag sucks :( They usually have something. Or may be that's just for an inaugural route rather than new plane?

Well my return 465 has been upgraded to an A350, but the outbound 462 overnight service seemingly downgraded from 773/330-ER to a 772 (per MEL_Traveller's advice)! These are worse than QF SkySlope v1.

Are we expecting a second A350 to run the second daily service at any point in the future? Certainly TG would like us to think so as there schedule shows A350 throughout next year. And speaking with TG just now, apparently their schedule is updated on November 1st so I 'should check again then'.

Ausbt has the scoop on these details (Thai Airways begins Airbus A350 flights from Melbourne to Bangkok)

Double daily planned for Feb 2018.... not holding my breath.

That was no scoop, we confirmed the A359 here on AFF at the end of september and again on the day it arrived :) The article is slightly confusing... TG465/6 was almost always operated by a 77W, not 777-200. So the A350 is replacing a 77W, and the 461/2 will actually be getting a downgrade to a 772 from the end of the month.

I was referring to the second daily service aircraft date.
