To clarify, while testing post 1 May is not required, you still need to apply for the test n go. New process will be on the website by April 29. Hope this is helpful info.

Thailand Pass Still Required

  • Thailand Pass application will still be required to verify insurance and vaccination status but the processing time will be much quicker.
  • The new entry requirements are expected to start on May 1, 2022. For those who are arriving on May 1 or later, the Thailand Pass system is currently suspended. You can apply on April 29, 2022.
  • The Thailand Pass website will accept applications under new entry measures starting 29 April 2022 onwards (00.01 hrs Thailand time).
  • Travelers whose Thailand Pass has already been issued can travel with the issued QR Code nd you do not need to register for a new Thailand Pass.

I can visualise a problem with the Thai Pass. It looks like they may knock back my Multi trip even though it is for unlimited medical and has a rider that Covid 19 will be covered under that section.
I just thought it might be simpler to get their insurance as it would be easier to upload for the Thai pas. however they will not insure anyone 75 or over.
Have others previously been able to upload their Aussie Insurance policy for the Thai Pass application.

About time regarding Test & Go. I'm flying out 14 May and staying 28 days.

I'm not going to buy an Australian travel insurance policy this time. Think the AXA policy for the duration of stay in Thailand with Covid cover should be enough?

Starting the foundations next Thursday and the blessing also on that day. Wish us luck.

My last day in Thailand today. Coming back on a totally full QF this evening. Forgot to select seats so am stuck in the middle of the 4 rower haha.
I have had an ordinary end to the trip. Unable to eat or go to the toilet for almost 5 days now.
Ready to get home.

Really hope they drop the 10K insurance. I'll be in Thailand for a grand total of 8 hours next month between two flights (not on the same airline so will technically need to 'enter' Thailand to check into my next flight).

Pre covid the airlines had transfer desks airside where we checked in when transitting but you have to go through security again to get to your gate as usual.

Well good news on the Insurance front. Rang Southern Cross travel and they have obviously had this done before. As soon as i said we are going to Thailand he said no problems we will email a 1 page statement with your policy number and that you are covered for covid 19 with unlimited medical costs.

So any one in the same boat just contact your insurer.

I've now done Test and Go (and hence Thai Pass) twice. First time with the AXA local cover just to be careful and the second time I used my annual cover. My aussie cover had no issues. There is a page in the cover (about 10 pages in) that specifically mentions COVID-19 cover, but I couldn't upload it into Thai Pass, and it was still approved.

I've just booked my return for 4 weeks from now. Great to be traveling again!

Greta report.

We have a good idea re Thailand, but can you fill us in regarding Philippines?

Ease of entry - I gather easier than Thailand - plus the overall airport experience inbound, how busy you found Metro Manila, did you see lots of closed restaurants like in Bangkok, which hotel and how the experience was, and did you travel to any other Filipino cities or provinces?

It appears in Philippines that the local governments away from Manila (bless their bureaucratic hearts) have imposed some additional entry requirements. What I don't know is if these are being enforced.

Did you see other (obvious) tourists in Philippines or was it 'dead' like you suggested popular Thai localities were?

No problems with thailand now. need to do the Thai pass online but now straightforward. On arrival you pass through a Thai Pass checkpoint. We had our passes printed. They looked and we kept going. Immigration wanted to see our vaccination certificate. Again quick look and through. We beat our bag by quite some time.
For the rest of our 5 days did not need the Thai pass again. Only difference to normal is a few less people, can get a seat on the BTS and most are wearing masks.

Philippines is interesting. I've been there twice this year so far, and back again in 4 weeks. My first trip (at the time of this post), things were quiet and still felt restricted in Manila, but out of Manila things were fairly normal. On my last trip, 4 weeks ago, things had loosened up, but still 100% masks everywhere in Manila, in the provinces, far less common.

I travelled a lot across Mindanao and Luzon and the only issues I had was that in some places in Mindanao they expected me to have an app to show vaccination etc, but the app doesn't work for internationals, so that caused some delays getting in to the odd restaurant, but rare. Certainly no issue in Manila or greater Luzon.

Huge difference to normal from my experience.

- hardly any tourists
- lots of places closed down, some will return, most may find new owners after many years
- many goods and services have noticeably increased in price e.g. 1kg pork at Makro was 89-95 baht ~2 years ago is now minimum 178 baht, somtum salad has gone from 40 baht to 50-60 baht

There are quite a few other things happening behind the scenes which many do not understand or do not care about. Foreign companies buying hotels and apartments or land to build apartments that are going to be for exclusive use of foreigners or tourists from that country.

I'm not sure if Thailand can ever be the same.

How quickly did everyones Thai Passes get approved after submitting the application? It's saying 48 hours.

Ours came through in a couple of hours.Applied ~ 1400 and email was there before the 6PM news

My Thai pass approval was just short of 12 hours but submitted around midnight on a weekend.

I just applied for Thai Pass and it came back approved in just over 1 hour.

Applied at around 12.30pm Friday.
