I meant demand in regards to travel in general, not Thailand in particular. I presumed that maybe it took the currency exchange businesses by surprise.
Oh. That still surprises me that people are willing to take those risks.

I'm back in Manila now, then KL, Jakarta then back in Bangkok again over the next 2 weeks. Manila airport was very busy last night.
Is that the Easter travel? I know a few from our office have gone back.to Philippines for Easter after 2 years.

I'd be interested to see Pattaya and Chiang Mai in May.

What’s the current situation in Thailand for tourist entry? We are in Vietnam and have 4 days we could potentially spend in Bangkok before flying back to Melbourne. Is the PCR test on day 1 and SHA+ hotel still a requirement or have they come to their senses and made it easy for tourists? (like Vietnam). If allowed, we would land in Bkk around April 24-26th. Cheers in advance!

PCR day 1 test and Hotel is still a requirement

The Thai Government is meeting on 22/4 to discuss what will happen from May 1st. early talk was the PCR was to be replaced by an ART test but now talking of scrapping Test and Go entirely. But you will need a vaccine passport.

Never been to Bangkok but as I tick off other destinations it is certainly rising up the list. Ditch testing for arrival and I will go for sure...could be a good use of a week off work, 3/3 split in BKK/SIN

Overall the flight was quite good for Economy. So many seats free that you can have 2/3 seats for yourself and lay down. The food tasted quite good.

Once in Bangkok expect to get your passport out a lot. Everyone wants to see it. It was rather quick though making your way out to baggage collection. I’d guess 30 min with quite a long walk.

Transport took us to our Hotel, followed by check in and PCR test.

The staff were super friendly and the service was amazing. I am staying at Centre Point Terminal 21. The Test and Go package comes with dinner and breakfast. The dinner was very good and breakfast is due in 1.5 hours from now.

We are not given a key to our room, so pretty much locked in until we receive a phone call with the test result at around 9am. Fingers crossed no one tests positive (I am travelling in a group of 11).

What are the odds of Thailand deciding to drop these rules ASAP and letting spontaneous travellers visit this weekend?

No chance. A committee is apparently meeting some time today and suspected test and go will be scrapped or at the very least a PCR switched to a RAT meaning result known in minutes so no first day upcharge at your hotel. The tourist industry certainly hopes so. The government is scheduled to meet tomorrow to decide. The start day will be May 1st.

With us arriving on May 4th we certainly hope it goes.

Currently in Vietnam with a few days left on our visa and 10 days until we need to be back in Australia. Hoped the Thai authorities would pull their finger out sooner - they’re missing out on so many tourists

The Public health ministry has recommended a relaxation of the Test and Go regulations. decision by Government should be known later todasy. any changes will be from May1st.

At the worst I suspect we will just have to get a RAT test on arrival at the airport. At best, if vaccinated Test and Go will have gone though they are saying they will keep the Thailand pass for a while.

the worst issue is Test and Go requiring some planning and not a last minute, spontaneous trip.

An old colleague flew from Hanoi to coughet and there was an administrative error on the Test and Go form and he was denied boarding. I get that it's an error and his responsibility, but an incorrect date is hardly a danger to the population.

The few big shots with a handle on the SHA plus hotels, and who are involved with the travel insurance companies are loving it. The little people who run the restaurants and stalls are needing the foreign money and ease of entry.

Even expat friends who live in Bkk have to go through the Test and Go system. It's a bit of an unnecessary joke.

Yeah fingers crossed it gets fixed for 1 May. Wife and i had covid 3 weeks ago, but kids avoided it. Really dont want to be stuck in hotel for the duration of our week stay in coughet, especially when 80% of the time the kids while off for a day or 2 max.

Here's another report this time an interview with the General in charge of the decision making body. Seems quite hopeful that the PCR test will go.

He said the CCSA would also ease Test & Go measures so that foreign tourists, and Thais who return from abroad, could enter the country with much more convenience.

He added that the Covid test on foreign arrivals may change from expensive RT-PCR tests to much-cheaper rapid antigen tests as proposed by the tourism sector.

“The CCSA may even stop testing vaccinated people, but this will be considered on Friday,” Supoj added.

The CCSA operation chief said the Test & Go scheme and Thailand Plus registration system cannot be abolished for now but they may be adjusted according to the current system.
