Thailand Test & Go & Bangkok in Feb 2022

Don't confuse Sha+ hotels with the 1 night test & go package. You'll need to have a 1 night hotel booking that includes your airport transfer and testing to get a Thailand Pass. Or, so I believe!
And I think it’s easier to get that all inclusive package by booking direct with the hotel rather than through wotif or Agoda etc

So still a PCR on arrival and a self test day 5 at least until late May.

Flight left 2+ hours late, so got to enter the F lounge when it opened.

Flight was ok, food quite good.

Arrive at HKT, quick document check then to immigration. Got bag and to leave airport have to present documents and do the PCR test. The sticks seemed to touch the brain.

Because I didn't have a car booked by my hotel the people at the testing area organised one for 800THB. Took me and my mate.

Told to stay in hotel for 6 hours.

No result yet, nor any care.

Given details to seek refund for now redundant second PCR test.

Have been out for walk this morning and had a foot massage.

That’s correct.
so Thailand is still a pain to visit as the threat of hotel quarantine hangs over us. I think Vietnam only requires a PCR test in Australia before departure and an insurance policy. No chance of hotel quarantine and no mask mandate. Is that correct? We are hovering over the book button but need to confirm everything. The Vietnamese government website is vague, if anything.

I arrived in BKK last Wednesday night from Sydney and it was so easy to come through and get out of the airport and to the hotel.

I booked Sofitel Sukhumvit direct and there was an option after you got through the room selection on Accor.com to book the PCR Test, transport etc. So, so simple to do. I did contact the hotel to email me through a confirmation of my booking and payment for the PCR Test and included that with my Thai Pass application. Thai Pass was approved in about 2 hours, although for one of my colleagues coming from the UK, his took almost 7 days to come.

I was on QF23 and landed at 4pm. Got to the hospital about 530pm for my PCR test and the hotel called me at 915pm to tell me I was negative. Was such a quick process.

I've still had to do the 5 day RAT test today but I can't actually work out how to report it back to the Thai Authorities - there is an app you use but it's not working well for me at all so can't report it - but not sure it really matters anyway.

Getting out of the airport you just have a number of forms to fill out and just make sure you have your Thai Pass details, copy of hotel booking and proof that you have paid for a PCR test.

Once you come out of immigration and customs, you just have representatives from all the hotels standing there ready to get you into a car. It was actually easier arriving this time than pre-covid when you had all the taxi touts etc trying to rip everyone off.

Thailand is quiet though. I'm shocked at how much has closed down. I'm in Chiang Rai at the moment and the Food Court near the clock tower/walking street was absolutely empty last night. It's eerily quiet.

Overall though, it's been pretty straight forward and in some ways, easier because it doesn't have the hustle and bustle that it used to have.

The only change from April 1st is removal of PCR test in Australia prior to departure. Still need pcr test on arrival and rat test on day 5. Or did I get this wrong?
Check with your airline though as Qantas needs to see a PCR test before you depart I believe.

My understanding in Thailand is if you test positive while you're here, you have to quarantine for 10 days. You can do it in the hotel that you do your initial test in - that's been one of the traps that people seem to have if they book a super cheap hotel to start with. You can end up in a dodgy hospital or that hotel for 10 days. So book something that you'll be comfortable in for 10 days just in case.

Just on this point, I believe Qantas would only need to see this if it's required by the destination. Qantas does not have additional PCR testing requirements beyond those of the relevant government/s.

My sister left SYD on QF for LHR yesterday. She did not have to have a pre boarding test.

The big question I have now is trying to work out which hotels are operating as "Hospitels" - ie, hotels connected to the hospitals where you can quarantine when you test positive for COVID.

It seems quite hard to find a list of hotels that are available for this except for the ones that your hospital refers to. It seems like you can choose, but not one is telling me what the options are.

I originally though if you got COVID you could quarantine in the original hotel you stayed in with Thai Pass and Test n Go - but that's not the case.
