The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Well considering the jab is targeted at the alpha variant
Not sure what you mean by that? I'm sure the vaccines were well into trial before Alpha emerged.

Which by the way was a record. The previous high on 11th June was 153,338
No really unexpected though, if current circumstances can't persuade people to get vaccinated I don't know what will. What would be more important to watch is whether this is a trend or like the Victoria lockdown just a blip.

So Andrew Barr just tweeted that they had a very peaceful and harmonious cabinet meeting. Let’s hope they can get the rollout on tracks after the hysteria over the last few days :)
Apparently the PM will be speaking at a press conference scheduled for 11:30am.

There is now a need to take your Medicare card when having the flu vaccination because it is now the best way to have a record of your vaccinations.

Unfortunately doesn't guarantee that. I've put Medicare card details on form every year and it has never shown up in My Gov /Medicare vaccination record irrespective of whether given at GP or via work scheme.

he more channels and greater geographic spread, the better.

Noticed you didn't highlight the word Regional, which is where NSW will be trialing pharmacies. And they can only give vaccines to the recommended age groups, so AZ only for over 60s,

Wisely NSW are adding more mass vax centres which are much more efficient meaning less wastage and proving popular that many are fully booked for weeks.

So all the pessimists who have used the daily vaccination numbers to predict that we won't potentially all be vaccinated by the end of 2022 will now trumpet that if we keep up this daily rate for 5 days a week we could potentially have everyone vaccinated by the end of September.
I don't expect any headlines.

For anyone in Melbourne....hot tip....the new vaccination centre that is run by Northern Health at the Plenty Ranges Arts Centre has received stock and has come online with an abundance of 1st dose Pfizer appointments available starting today. It has an online booking that is separate to the main booking system.

End of September! I don't expect it to happen.

+1300 more primary care clinics coming online with AZ and/or Pfizer in next 3.5 weeks.

Gotta look for silver linings!

Realistically we will never get everyone vaccinated, so 80% is the figure really. 32 million jabs - 24 million to go. we just did a million in 8 days. So if hysterical premiers could just stop sabotaging everything we could do it (at least 1 jab)

We did 1 million in what most would regard as an extraordinary week, definitely not normal. There are thirteen weeks until end Sept, so we need to be closer to 2 million. Time will tell but I think even getting consistently 20% above where we are now wont happen until we get those bulk Pfizer supplies, i.e. October at the earliest.

Well as you say time will tell. I am always a rampant optimist. :)

@mviy - for you?

I think I've decided not to even bother trying going to a hub. I'll get AZ on Monday.

I had thought about trying to book to go to Olympic Park in SYD before the latest VIC lockdown but the lockdowns scuppered all that.

So feds have just published some new data re first and second doses by age and gender:

View attachment 251832

447k people under 40 have had both doses of the vaccine probably Pfizer given the timing - that's about 1/4 of all Pfizer doses.

So those saying not much Pfizer given to younger people are not correct. The under 50s (most of whom would have had Pfizer) account for about 48% of vaccinations so far.

Do they break it down at all for Pfizer/AZ? You post implies not at all.

Don't know what happened in other States but in NSW in late March there was a push for Health Dept staff who were yet to get offered a booking to be then booked in for AZ. A large number at PoW (including senior docs) got their first AZ (age range 18 to 68) between 22nd March and early April. Last will be getting their 2nd AZ early next week but most already counted in 2nd doses.

The younger ones weren't given any option. The same edict was given to all nursing & medical students across all campuses in Sydney - some got their 1st AZ before the ATAGI advice was changed. From latest feedback 50/50 as to those getting their 2nd AZ.
