Using 16+ as the population - makes no sense to use anything else, I think we will reach those figures at the end of September.

Yes the back of the envelope or drink coaster calculations show those figures are going to be way too low.
By the end of the week 11 million doses will have been given
At an average of 1 million doses a week, that we will be very close to this week, means that by 20/12 32 million doses will be given.
That is equal to 64% of 25 million which is close to the population of those aged 10 and over.
So probably that could mean 55% fully vaccinated and 73% with first dose.Which should mean everyone >40 would have been able to be vaccinated unless they chose not to be.

Doses given per week should be able to easily exceed 1 million as the supply will be increasing from now.

Two more deaths linked to AstraZeneca vaccine​

Two more people have died after being diagnosed with the rare blood clotting disorder associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration said a 44-year-old man from Tasmania and a 48-year-old woman from Victoria died in the last week after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

Both had confirmed cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS).
“We extend our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones,” the TGA said in its weekly vaccine safety report.
Since the beginning of the vaccine rollout in Australia, a total of five deaths from TTS have been reported out of 6.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. A sixth death linked to the vaccine was recorded from immune thrombocytopenia.
All of the deaths were related to a first dose of the vaccine.
Over the last week, there have been four additional confirmed cases of TTS likely to be associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

I think you are right - it’s been heavily skewed to females.

Maybe it’s because the construction industry is shut down in two states, but in our company health and safety meeting yesterday we had a good discussion on when and how we can make vaccination compulsory on our construction sites. ‘If’ didn’t even enter into it.

I’m hoping it’s not just us and it goes across the entire industry, these stoppages are killing us.

Indeed. People need some perspective. Many more people have had the AZ vaccine than have contracted the virus in that time and yet a much, much, much higher death rate from COVID than from the vaccine.

Given the very low number of 40-49 yr olds that have been given AZ - for 2 to die in one week is not going to help the perception of AZ.

Very sad outcome.

Given the timeframe it is likely these two people responded to Scott Morrison's announcement after the National Cabinet meeting on June 28th changing the recommendation for AZ.

Using the figures discussed by Brad Hazzard today, total AZ doses administered at Homebush yesterday covering ages from 40 to 99 was 80 (including 2nd doses). Pfizer was 9,000.

Risks from AZ vaccine for 40 to 49 yr olds (Australia-wide) now looking much worse.

But the deaths from TTS are overwhelmingly in women in Australia?

76,595 doses of AZ have been given to people under 40 (note this figure includes second doses) since the PMs announcement. I would note though that deaths of people above 40 would of course be outside those numbers.

I was thinking more of deaths - haven’t paid too much attention to incidences to be honest.

And the people who continually scaremonger about AZ should take a good long hard look at themselves. It results in people too scared to take the vaccine (even over 60s), resulting in deaths and lockdowns. Didn’t the current mess in Sydney probably start from a 60 year old limousine driver who was too scared to get AZ?

I understand that women are more likely to have auto immune issues than men, although that changes as people move into their fifties and sixties. And it seems that a particular autoimmune process is at work with the TTS issue. They can test for most autoimmune illnesses (as a diagnostic tool) so is there any test that can be done for the platelet function test?

If people have successfully received heparin (pre surgery etc) then does this mean the immune reaction to AZ won't occur?

Even though the media sends everyone into hysteria every time there's a vaccine-related death, it's in line with the expected 1 per million.
Every death is awful but if 200 unimmunised people get Covid we get the same number of deaths.
Sydney is currently hitting this target (200 unimmunised Covid cases) every 2 days

AZ is being rolled out to pharmacies and any other GPs willing to take part in the rollout. Scott Morrison made it clear without explicitly stating it that he thinks that the states should start vaccinating any adults that want AZ at mass vaccination hubs if they want it as well.

On a population adjusted basis this would equate to almost 2.4m daily vaccines in USA terms.

The highest number delivered in the USA in one day was 4.63m on April 10.

We are doing well.
