The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

In Canberra they aren’t taking appointments until mid April going on friends’ experiences, so I sort of feel confident if you have an appointment it is because they know they have supplies.....
Yes, that's my experience in Canberra, but I have found that there appears to be lots of (available) supply in NSW. Why is that, I wonder?

If you want to sign up to conspiracies, probably because NSW continues to take very high numbers of returning travelers relative other states.

And an infinite number more than Victoria, at the moment. I was just thinking today on my morning walk (past several former hot hotels) how sad that the government here STILL hasn't got their act together to restart the program. Maybe if the Australian Open was in a month's time they would have found a way.

I wonder if they have set up the process to charge for quarantine yet. Doubt it.

NSW does have a large population to vaccinate too

Easter is now just two weeks away. I would be very surprised if they started hotel quarantine again before then and risked any stuff up leading to people being stuck at home over the long weekend that leads into the school holidays. With JobKeeper gone another lockdown would cause significant damage to the economy, especially for businesses that rely on business in school holidays.

You are probably right. Which I personally find very sad.

Wow, l got truly pummeled on my views regarding the rollout.

Guess l'll keep to myself - but my thoughts still haven't changed - the Australian Government has been very slow in its roll out of the covid-19 vaccine, as usual.

In January they said the initial rollout would consist of 80,000 doses a week. They missed that in the first two weeks but they hit 80,000 a week for the last two weeks. It definitely is slow, but also they are sticking to the plan.

the critical question is whether they can now ramp it up successfully so they get to the next target of producing and using a million doses a week - seems huge but we will see.

It doesn’t really seem that huge actually :)

I don’t think the Feds are doing well here, and are refusing to give timeline and further details, nor take responsibility. Not good enough.

Indeed ...from heroes to villains in no time flat , no wonder the polls are running against them.
Overpromising and underdelivering can be a fatal flaw ; perhaps Scottie from marketing needs to stop basking in his perceived glory and start making stuff happen.

I listened to the press conference with Murphy last week and there was a very detailed plan with diagrams, graphs explanations as to how the rollout was happening. Can’t remember all of it, but it included an initial number of GPs with that being added to during April until all were operating. The smaller ones were getting 50 doses one week and some of the others were hundreds per week. Also respiratory clinics were going to pivot from testing to vaccination as well. Once that was operational then some pharmacies were going to added.

Murphy said if CSL produced the million doses a week, then everyone would have a first jab by October. However they were also in negotiations with CSL to produce more than that each week so they could do better than that.

the graphs also showed how in June there was a bit of an extra challenge as they would then have to start second jabs as well as rolling out first ones.

the information was all there and very detailed. If the media doesn’t report on it in detail doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist...

there is masses of information here and more added all the time although I haven’t seen the information Murphy presented

Anyone interested in the actual plan, here is the transcript of the press conference (minus pretty graphs). Skip over the waffle from Morrison at the beginning and can read everything Murphy said. Seems to be progressing exactly as they said and close to what they have been saying since early Feb, so I am not sure where overpromising and under delivering comes in.

1b is starting right when it was promised......still hopeful 2A will start in May which was when it was promised. I am reserving judgement as currently I don’t see any issues.

A distant relative (over 65) works in aged care said since the jab is not compulsory, they will not take it. Hubby said if there are a lot of people not taking the jabs, herd immunity will not be achieved and the government will not re-open the borders making it difficult for us to get home :(

Yes, of course, but for some it’s easier to have a complain and point a finger, unfortunately.

When were the other times?

I wouldn’t worry - I feel fairly sure as this progresses and people see friends and relatives take it they will be reassured and we will get enough doing it. They have done a few polls and about 70% are planning to have the vaccination, 10% are adamant they won’t and some fence sitters.

border openings will take awhile but maybe there might be some new initiatives like home quarantine which would allow more people to,return. Fingers crossed for you. We recently went through a very stressful time when Dr FM was trying to get home, so I know how hard it is.

Yes, well your relative is not alone in that thinking, although I find the attitude hard to justify. However, it will be a different story if the relative catches COVID.

I would try to focus on my situation in getting the vax as soon as available.
