The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I was wondering about that. My GP has said they will have a waiting list as well as being able to book appointments online. I assume the waiting list is for those hoping to get an earlier appointment but maybe over time could be used for someone from a lower group?
I would think so. I'm in 2B and work near a GP clinic and would be happy to get a jab at very short notice, but it'll be a long while before I can join any waiting list.

If people suddenly get sick or miss their appointment for another reason they would prefer not to waste the vaccine doses.

Yes it will happen especially once CSL’s vaccines hit all the clinics. They will be swimming in it.

Interesting to read about the soft launch in Melbourne for the state-run mass vaccination clinics. Might make a habit of changing my walking route and cruising past toward the end of the day. Who knows, maybe they will just want to pull people off the street instead of throwing any leftover doses in the bin (at least I would hope they would have a way of distributing leftovers instead of disposal)

Murphy said today that he is hopeful international travel can start next year. So I guess we don’t need to worry too much about the speed of the rollout, as no-one is going anywhere this year :(

For what it's worth, in case anyone in Perth in phase 1B who has struggled with an appointment - do the online checker questionnaire and you can book online for at least one federal GP respiratory clinic for vaccination from Wednesday onwards.

I just went online to see if I could book appointments online for the last week of April.Well the QLD site is useless and though I asked for an online appointment gave me 4 pages of centres requiring phone appointments.
So went to healthengine and yes I could get an online appointment from the 27th April on.However it gave me all QLD places doing online bookings.About 10% of the total places. The majority were dentists, skinclinics or pharmacies.Just shows you how organised medical practices are.A few on the Sunshine Coast but none close by.
Of course in with the Sunshine Coast they had one in Coffs Harbour.Didn't think I wanted to go that far.

It's the same in Victoria :( I was refreshing the search results page every five minutes on Friday and again several times yesterday... appointments were 'not yet available' or 'only available by phone'. Clicking on the 'phone' link a message came up saying 'vaccine appointments not currently available' and 'do not call'.

Today, all the online bookings are listed as 'unavailable, booked out'.

Seems not well organised.

Fancy a trip to Adelaide? Athol Park has appointments online, I think for around 8 April? They've been promoted here and bookings going quickly. 400 vaccines a week.

It's disappointing. Politicians have all lined up for their first and second jabs. Those in 1b are supposed to be the vulnerable... they don't have an army of staff to arrange these things for them.

Let us know if that happens. If it does I might need to head into the city and see if it works for me too.

Yes I have thought for a while that there would be no real international leisure travel till 2022 . Except for maybe NZ and a few other places. So hence that is one reason I am not that fussed when I get vaccinated.

I initially thought some of the Pacific Islands might open. However they do not have the resources to deal with any real outbreak, and so that will make them reluctant to.

I can deal with 2022, I just need certainty.

Swmbo , with a truckload of persistence as the gp's phone ran hot, has us both booked in for next thurs am.
I am personally ambivalent but will feel much more relaxed when swmbo is under the brolly

When the politicians said it would be done by October, they meant all the politicians would be done by October.
In short supply at present unfortunately.
'Cos the politicians used up the supply.
