The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Except the scientific trials of long term AZ protection have nothing to do with NSW, nor Australia but what happens in clinical trials overseas.

In SA at 9am tomorrow, Covid vaccinations open up to all. Apparently the Noarlunga clinic has a lot of appointments and there is a similar one up north. Worth a trip if you can't get one close to home. Noarlunga is in that new and never used Hardware chain that tried to compete with Bunnings and failed. It's working extremely well and have not heard of any issues on the usual socials page. Open every day. SIL who works there told me that 150 people just didn't show up last Sunday. They don't waste the vaccinations though as they keep a very tight reign on 'just in time' preparation. If there are the odd one or two left over then they approach the admin staff outside the clinic but that's not often needed. Two separate pharmacists who only prepare one of Pfizer or AZ. All Pfizer personnel are dressed in pink as are all the various pieces of equipment. SIL is usually a pink vaccinator. I think AZ is all yellow. She usually vaccinates 50 people a day.

Thats good. Have you convinced some people to get vaccinated there….?

I talk. 😀I'm currently down on the River Murray and chatting to neighbours. Seems like many oldies are finally getting AZ. At the pharmac_. Several wanting to bring forward the second dose closer to 9 weeks as it's just a matter of time before Covid visits SA again.

I think that young people here in SA will rock up and do their thing. It's getting a lot of talk on the media, from the young ones! They can also get AZ if they want it after watching an advisory video at the hubs.

Interesting article about the challenges in getting people to get vaccinated in parts of Sydney

Its like dominoes you crack a couple the rest follow (certain minority groups are harder to crack but it will happen). I convinced a friend to finally get AZ a couple of weeks ago, caught up with them and suddenly their whole family is done.

Everyone needs to take ownership, not just for themselves but for everyone they know.

Yep - been doing that since April. Only have 1 failure so far and will be interesting once Canberra gets out of lockdown to see whether that has changed her mind - I couldn’t!

In some excellent news, the prime Minister just announced million extra doses of Pfizer has been sourced via Poland for almost immediate use. Will start arriving tonight. (Note that any batches arriving will need to go through the normal batch testing arrival process).

530,000 doses to be used in NSW with the most affected LGAs to be targeted. This will occur first.

Just listening - great news!

As someone in VIC, I hope they send most of them to Sydney as that’s where they are needed most right now.

Now I nothing of Poland, but a quick look shows shows that their fully vaccinated rate is about 50%. However their number of cases is very low.

So it is very generous of the Polish Government.

I am not so sure we would have paid that much above the odds. Poland is one of the most vaccine skeptic nations in Europe.

This is welcome news regardless.

Again I know nothing about the Polish dynamics. But looking at their vaccination curve it is now quite flat and so it could well be that with the million does that they perhaps could not use it by its expiry date.

However even if so that million doses could gave gone to many other places beside Australia. We do at least have the capability here in Australia to use it quite swiftly.

The same could be said for a financial incentive to be vaccinated?
That may come when there is plenty of supply for anyone to immediately have whichever vaccine they choose and if demand is not where it needs to be at that point.

One of the more welcome bits of news is that these extra doses for NSW is restricted to 20-39s only. Another strong message to the older "wait for Pfizer 🤪 " crowd.

The problem is obviously supply and not demand. $300 is going to make jack all difference to anyone over 60 who mistakenly believe waiting for Pfizer is a better outcome for them.

I had mine at Noarlunga and it was very efficient. 2nd dose Monday week and then I'm heading off for a holiday (in SA of course)

Half going to Sydney and half distributed to the rest of Australia based on population. Melbourne looks in a bit of trouble at the moment - hope they can smash it down.
