The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Just wanted to reach out and hope the lockdown isn’t getting you down. While I haven’t experienced a harsh lockdown, our daughter arrived in London in early March last year for her dream job and then spent most of the year in one lockdown after another. She found it very hard and we used to talk to her everyday to support her through it, so I know it’s a tough time.
Actually personally doing fine but yeah I do know people who have had or even died from COVID, and plenty of people who are extremely frustrated about either coming home or leaving to visit family.

But I am extremely frustrated at Federal government with the whole it’s not a race thing. I always though something like the current situation would happen here (though the scale has exceeded even my worst scenarios) and incredibly annoyed we let it get to this before we did something.

Just for reference though it’s only the feds I have a problem with, I think both Gladys and Dan have a very hard job and have done it reasonably well so I’m not totally negative.

I'm thinking 100% by end of December which of course will never happen.
I posted about this elsewhere, the assumption is that the vaccination rate will remain steady. It hasn’t been steady to date and hasn’t been steady in any country anywhere in the world. So wouldn’t read to much into the prediction itself though it is always interesting (and more relevant) to note when it accelerates and when it slows.

The curves from other countries, all look somewhat similar, accelerate to about 50/60% fully vaccinated then the rate of take up starts to slow, sometimes quite dramatically.

Not totally negative.... Really could've fooled me.

At least we can blame the Fed gov cos of his line "not a race" clearly that comment is what cost the nation of the slow uptake in vaccine, no other issue or obstacle even comes close.

Imagine if scomo didn't say those words... Wow we'd be at 60% vaccinated already. Pity.

Small point but we dont have enough popular vacines to be at 60% .
If AZ had not been pilloried and discouraged by Atagi we would have been further along
But no, we have to blame the gov for his choice of couple words for slow uptake of the Vax and sitting in 190th place.

It's only words... Good lyrics for a song.

Greg Hunt also stood up some time ago and told all the hesitant and waiters that if they waited, there would be enough mrna vaccine for everyone later this year. So they waited. Can't walk it back now.
So ppl out there listened to g hunt & said to themselves, no I won't have they vac now, I'll wait till later as Mr hunt says?

Is that what you envisage happened?

That comment in context ?

I imagine 80% of ppl have no idea who Mr hunt is, couldn't tell him from a line up.

All government commentary has been increasingly reactionary as time has gone on. I actually don't blame them for the vaccine shortages (mrna in particular), I don't think anything but a full blown massive outbreak would've seen Pfizer redirect any doses to us regardless of order or delivery time frame agreed on. But there have been so many own goals and stupid commentary that is so so regrettable and should never have happened.

Yeah nice call but it’s not just the words, it’s the fact the words reflected his general lack of action for which we mow all suffering.

Yes it is the the words, you highlighted the words in your post.
If you were referring to the lack of action, you'd refer to the actual lack of action.

But keep up the repetitive work.

In a race there's only 1 winner. Was Aus ever going to come 1st? Maybe we would've if the words weren't spoken, right?
It's only words, not literal, like having a beer to be vaccinated, let's take that as gospel too, oh my.

That was an option that was offered to them...by the federal health minister. Are you saying it didn't happen?

No I don't believe I stated that.

I did state that I don't believe 80% of ppl know who g hunt is and that I don't many at all took that advice.

That's bulldust. There was not a lack of action.

The issue was backing the wrong horse for a win, rather than the field for a place.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Last in the OECD, how are you going to spin that as a positive? Let me guess, you’ll talk about how well we were doing last year, let me give you a tip, we are well past 50% of 2021. I’ll save you the effort by agreeing we did well in 2020 thanks to our state premiers but it’s not 2020 anymore.

None of that is relevant to my post.

Apparently Morrison is trying to talk the US into giving us some of their stockpile of unused vaccines that are about to expire. (Source The Australian - breaking news).
Apparently they have been trying for several weeks at least.

Reading the Daily Mail article it seems that if Republicans were still in the White House the request probably would have already been granted.
