The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I just saw Casey Briggs twitter projections on first dose getting to 80% coverage of eligible (if current pace (I guess 7 day average) is maintained)

NSW - 22 September
ACT 18 October
National average 18 October
NT 26 October
Tas 28 October
Qld 8 November
Vic 12 November
SA 15 November
WA 4 December
Shirley we couldn't possibly get there by Melbourne Cup day. Roughly nationaly!!

Even with incentives to come once 70% is hit....I'm just pegging it in for a Xmas pressie to all. Well to 80% + the few that legitimately can't.

BTW who is Casey Briggs? These dates based on current projects yeah.

The vaccine sentiment report indicates only 79% have either got vaccinated or intend to do so (was 70% back in July): Operation COVID Shield COVID-19 Vaccine Sentiment Summaries

Sure there is a margin for error and things will change but in my view it does seem to reinforce that the phase C targets are too high. The targets should be below what’s achievable so a date can be set to spur on the last say 10% of those who intend to get the jab.

Casey Briggs is the ABC's digital journalist/presenter. I think he has been on an election coverage as well.

Given everything we have been told Christmas should be achievable. Just hope everything has been disclosed. But what those gifts are (ie the actual restrictions that will be actually lifted) remains the unknown answer - still being determine by 3 jurisdictions on behalf of National cabinet.

So SA removing the need for a GP consult for a young person to get AZ. They need to watch a video at the hub advising the issue of blood clots, in the presence of a nurse and pharmacist. If they agree then off to have AZ. Much better.

Some friends have consulted with their GP this afternoon and been advised to get AstraZeneca ASAP, but couldn't get a booking at that surgery (not participating) and no appointments available the Vic state hubs.

I did some sleuthing, and got them in to the local pharmac_ about 5 minutes from their home, and much closer than the nearest state hub, at 9am tomorrow morning.

So, there you go - how good is it to have multiple delivery channels!!

That would be why we need incentives and to get from 79 - 80% we don’t really need to persuade many people. In fact I suspect 1% have already been persuaded by recent events and carrots/sticks already in place let alone those yet to be announced.

I don’t need a source I can see the stock levels…. We draw on them 🤪

EDIT: Oh do you mean what CSL is actually sending out the factory gate?
The report details what number of Pfizer & AZ arrived that week & being randomly sampled as well as the number from the previous week's approved that have been requested & despatched in the current week.

Then intriguing trying to match that with other reports.

For example: Shows total to date (not just that week's)
..........................Total doses__Pfizer___AZ___1st dose_2nd dose
''''''''''''''''''''''''' admnistered____________________________________________
w/e Aug 8____13.7m______6.3____7.4_____9.1_______4.6
w/e Aug 1____12.4m______5.6____6.8_____8.4_______4.0
w/e Jul 25_____11.2m_____4.9____6.3 no break up provided
w/e Jul 18_____10.1m_____4.0____6.1 no break up provided

What is strange is that 1m Pfizer (or slightly more) have been shipped for administering/injection for each of the last 3 weeks, and Fed Govt keeps saying States not to hold back '2nd doses' yet for 3 million shipped just 2.3m Pfizer have been used.

Many would disagree.

Not necessary given Pfizer was the vaccine used in the commonwealth aged care roll-out, you kowing of some exceptions in Victoria (which may have been state run facilities) whilst the gentlemen was in NSW doesnt change the odds that Pfizer was given.
Stark fact:
The Victorian State Govt controlled & run Aged Care facilities did not have one death in any of its 178 facilities during the 2nd wave. Zero deaths.
The Federal Govt controlled Aged Care facilities in Victoria had over 600.
Your nitpicking adds naught to the point that some fully vaccinated people will die because no vaccine is 100% effective and elderly people in aged care with comordities are the ones more likely to do so, just as is the case with the flu.

The many people in aged care who die each year despite having had flu vax doesnt make headlines.

We need to be focussing on the sucesses of the vaccination i.e. how many vacicnated people didnt get covid despite being directly exposed to a positive case, and when there are breakthrough cases how many had no signifiant illness.
You continue to state 'fake' claims as truths, make sweeping generalisations about 'everyone having months to get vaccinated' etc..

Answer one simple question - has the Federal Govt Vaccine rollout gone as promised for Priority Group 1A, all of whom were supposed to be given Pfizer?

Priority Group 1A subset Aged & Disability Care facility workers and residents were supposed to be fully vaccinated with Pfizer by week 6 - joint media release Scott Morrison & Greg Hunt - issued Feb 15th, reported mostly Feb 16th. = Fact.

There have been no disruptions nor delays with any Pfizer deliveries to Australia = Fact.

Federal Govt signed contracts with no tendering, to conduct the Aged & Disability Care facility worker & resident vaccinations by week 6, worth $167.5m with 4 private sector companies who had never been involved in any vaccination program in Australia previously, and did not have the staff to do so. = Fact.

With no media release, on April 23rd, the Federal Govt entered into a new contract solely with Aspen to vaccinate the Disability Care residents ONLY starting in early May. = Fact.

At that stage ZERO residents had received even the first dose as was revealed under questioning at the Disability Care Royal Commission special hearing, further revealing that a formal decision had been made in March by Scott Morrison & Greg Hunt to not vaccinate any to do with Disability Care until a later date yet to be decided. = Fact.

The April 23rd circular to Disability Care facilities also revealed that workers would not be vaccinated as announced on Feb 15th, & that AZ would be used where possible not Pfizer. = Fact.

As of last Friday over 30%, or more than 10,000 Disability Care residents are yet to get their first dose. = Fact.

Front Page of Tomorrow's Courier Mail: "COVID COURAGE" - "Youth defy warnings and get AZ jabs in growing numbers" - "Young Queenslanders have stated down the warnings about AstraZeneca, with thousands rolling up their sleeves... under-40s have rejected chief health officer Jeannette Young's hardline advice about AstraZeneca, with hundreds getting the vaccine on the day she told them not to."

Long article in the New York Times about Australia/COVID/vaccination

This absolutely sums up the SNAFU that is Australia. It makes me weep with rage about the time we have lost and the awful messaging from the various Govts (Federal and State) and the media with the impression that we had all the time in the world to get our cough together. We didn’t.

Let’s get this done and get us all jabbed as soon as possible.
Collectively we have done brilliantly in global terms keeping COVID out until there was a vaccine now let’s go the next step and learn to live with it as a safely immunized country who can return to participate in the world.

It's not really the anti-vax scaremongering, all those I know not wanting the AZ is because of the main stream media reporting on the very rare blood clotting issue.
The vast majority don't read any rubbish this anti-vax brigade publish, 5G & whatever else. Who'd have the time or desire?
The rate of serious adverse AZ reactions (TTS, ITP & GBS) as of w/e 8 August = 229 reports from 7.4m total doses.

Based on estimated first doses 4.8m to 2nd doses 2.6m - the rate is ..... << If anyone can find a recent published breakout please correct>>

1 in around 21,000 1st vaccinations, 7 deaths at 1 per 690,000 first doses approx.

The period before TTS issues were diagnosed ranges from within 1 day of the 1st dose to as long as 83 days (but prior to 2nd dose). Up until this latest week the max time was reported was 54 days.

I don’t know where you are getting your figures from but the actual numbers in Australia are
7.4 Million Doses of AZ and 6 deaths

Vaccines save lives

Don’t let it get to you, we can’t change the past decisions. It’s happening now - vaccinations are escalating and the daily numbers are fantastic. Rolling weekly total is close to 1.5 million now. I think Gladys is bonkers though to be talking about giving more freedoms - needs more time to get the numbers up!

She may well change the goalposts, but she probably feels she needs to give people some hope to encourage them to get vaccinated or NSW will still be in lockdown come Christmas.

I don’t think she’s actually promising anything. But if you take away hope you have nothing.
NSW is smashing this right now (vaccination) and we need to keep it up.
Giving a little hat tip to our neighbors of course ☺️

There are stories on the Front Pages that those working in industries where they are high risk of becoming super-spreaders if they become infected may be able to be required to get the jab if they are in a COVID hotspot with a bad outbreak.
