The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

The only good thing about active cases in a jurisdiction is that they help drive up the vaccination rate.

Unfortunately if cases drop the vaccination rate (factoring in supply) tends to drop off.

I'm sure no one has an answer to this, but does anyone know how much vaccine jabs there are in cupboards.......I wonder how feasible say having 3 or 4 x 24/7 walk in vaccination hubs at say a Sydney football stadiums would be feasible.

I know that the surge in demand for AZ has caught them on the hop a little and stock was a little thin on the ground earlier this week - appears to have corrected now though.

Honestly the Feds just have to break open any remaining national stockpile....give it all to NSW......NSW practically have no defences left to implement. In turn, NSW should have a walk-in hub. End October is when NSW is scheduled to be 70% double dosed.....11 weeks from now.......

Exciting news as local MRNA production in VIC creeps closer….

——

CSL’s planned mRNA factories in Victoria will produce 50 million doses in four months

Australia could make enough mRNA vaccines to protect the entire population at short notice under plans by biotech giant CSL to build two new facilities to fight future waves of coronavirus.

The facilities are being designed to produce at least 50 million doses within 16 weeks once construction is finished, in a pitch to the federal government to develop a sovereign capacity to respond to new variants of COVID-19 and other pathogens.

Perhaps, probably useful for regional - but I doubt pharmacies alone could do 1.5- 2.0 million first jabs alone in say 2 weeks on a walk-in basis

All channels need to be expanded.

More and more need to get AZ, and not wait for Pfizer/Moderna.

And rather than Year 12 students doses should be focused on those that have to leave home to work. Schools are not coming back anytime soon in Greater Sydney.

Year 12 was the original focus and they vaccinated 15,000. That changed last weekend to people working with food - takeaways etc. this weekend the priority is on vaccinating tradies including apprentices. I can’t remember how many they were targeting for this weekend - it was a large number.

Unfortunately for children there will have to be a risk I think. COVID will reach everyone over the next year or two no matter how many lockdowns we have.
I would prefer to have my children vaccinated with an emergency approved vaccine. I am very concerned re: Delta & my children who are under 12 with no pre-existing conditions.

World news: All public servants in Canada must get vaccinated or risk losing their jobs

The Canadian government has announced that all public servants must be vaccinated by the end of October or risk losing their jobs.

Commercial air, cruise and interprovincial train passengers must also be vaccinated to travel.

Canada has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the world, with just over eighty percent of eligible people having received at least one dose.

A government spokesman says testing and screening procedures will be implemented for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

That is really my point. NSW Gov is all over the shop. They keep changing the focus from week to week. Way too much mixed messaging on what is important. The Year 12 vaccination program was just a confirmation of how much the NSW Gov did not understand what needed to be done. The priority to get Year 12 back to the classroom when things were clearly out of control was just farcical.

They really now just need to be hammering to get get vaccinated with AZ and to particularly focus on those that cannot work from him.

May be yes, may be no.

If a person thought there are no more vaccines (which I believe was the situation at the time of the decision), and the spread was in Greater Sydney in a few LGAs, it would seem a reasonable minor diversion to try to get Year 12 to the finish line. Year 12 cohort would include some under 18, hence not eligible for Astra Zeneca.

Don't forget subsequently, some jabs were 'found' about a week later, presumably in the 'secret' national stockpile.

I am not sure that’s totally fair. The year 12 was probably a mis step, but I think they wanted to be sure they weren’t impacting kids in a critical year. The other vaccination drives have all been about getting young critical workers vaccinated as soon as possible. I see nothing wrong in targeting different groups. The groups they are targeting are all essential workers who cannot work from home. I can’t see any mixed messaging at all.

NSW might have made a stuff up of their lockdown, but their vaccination push is leaving other states trailing in their wake.

NSW's vaccination pace (daily % of eligibles vaccinated) is now roughly 33% faster than any other Australian jurisdiction.

Any state with that number of cases daily would have people racing for the vaccines…. I don’t think it’s anything they’ve really done especially well to achieve that.

But hey let’s accept the results, it’s the biggest state by population so was always going to be very important to get vaccinated! So go NSW go!
