 I was testing what they thought priority was out of Melb, since I thought it was pretty good the first time I was expecting it to be off with the first 10 or so..... lol, different when back at Newcastle, I only got to ONE!

I can't believe you counted the bags to know yours was 38th off LOL
I do this everytime I am at the luggage carousel! :p It may have something to do with getting bored quite easily. ;)

If my luggage doesn't come out within the first 10 or so I start thinking it got lost along the way and start thinking what to do next...

That's how reliable I think Priority Baggage is now.

I have counted 50+ more times than I care to remember. And once you get to 100+ you start losing the will to live especially if needing to make the next Coachtrans (or suffer an additional 1 hour wait) or the last airtrain for the night!

Hmmmm maybe I'm the odd one out, but I really can't be bothered counting the bags coming out, nice if it's in the first bunch, but be buggered if I'm going to sit there counting them... That would be fun on a full a380 or 744......

It is not easy counting bags after arriving on an A380 or 747 as sometimes after the first 2-3 containers have been unloaded the same bags start appearing again and you really need to have a good memory to keep an accurate count! :p

I've selected row 3/4 a few times now. Only been pushed to 1A once for SYD - MEL.

I unfortunately had food poisoning so slept for the whole journey (although it was easier to stretch out and sleep).

Flying OOL->MEL and back in a couple of weeks, first time flying since Plat status, fingers crossed for a little extra treatment! I can tell you that OOL Lounge (LOOLounge LOL!) can't be built quick enough, so that we people may escape from the overpriced noisy food court that is OOL.

Separately, are there any pro-tips other VPs can offer on scoring upgrades to J class when flying long haul international with VA? Are they still offering cash or points upgrades at the counter to VPs? Are OP Ups from Y to Y+ (or Y+ to J) still as rare as hens teeth???

I have had an onboard upgrade from Y+ to J on VA INT from AUH-SYD for myself +1. I got on board, after we took off the FA came round and introduced herself, there was only 8 people in the Y+ cabin.

I asked politely if J was not full could we grab 2 seats (beds) just to sleep as we had just come off a Y flight fro DUB-AUH. I assured her we would not make a fuss, eat PE food and come back before landing.

She went and asked the CSM in J and he came down and met us, said it was ok as we were Velocity Gold (Pre Platinum launch) and to go ahead and grap the two middle seats in the J cabin snooze zone.

Sweeeettttt

As a side note that was the breaking point for me, decided I would never again book a Y ticket. I had travelled J loads of times but only a handful of Y trips long haul. All J from then on. Even turned down a free 5 day trip to coughet with work fully paid for as it was in Y.

Is it just me or has there been a big momentum swing, no longer is it about looking after Platinum but now all about Business Class.

Nothing to complain about not getting upgrades but flying economy now you seem insignificant compared to when it was rolled out. i think this is a feeling among a lot of others, I have spoken to a few people when I have sat with them in row 3 and they were Platinum also, nobody seems to get upgraded anymore also.

Thoughts?

It's been going for THREE DAYS. From several reports around here the op ups have been quite generous (i wouldn't know as i haven't started flying for the year yet) but a little early to form a sample size either way isn't it?

To me, it would make sense that the upgrades have dried up now that the real J service has rolled out. I still feel that I get looked after fairly well :)

I can confirm I was Op-UP'ed on the 18th. I finish work early this afternoon, so I'll sit down and try and write a basic TR (Didn't take any photos, sorry!)

In the meantime, AusBT has just published their review.

Our whole family of four got upgraded from Flexi row-3 to row-2 a couple of weeks ago from Sydney to Melbourne. Only I am platinum in the family.

Fair enough, seems it's still around.. wasn't commenting on the past 3 days Swanning, the past month or more. Just the staff in the plane as compared to how they were earlier in the piece. Not all about the upgrades. I fly a mix of Business and Economy, more on the economy side and I just feel it's going to lean a little too heavy on Business rather than loyalty. Just my Opinion obviously.

Flew BNK to SYD on the 4:05pm, bought 3D, ticked 2D in retro fitted BSI cabin. Super nice seats. No full Y+/J catering however, no free water nor free anything off ze menu.

I had a rather annoying experience yesterday. I pre-reserved 3A, was offered an upgrade at check-in to the business class cabin (I chose 2A), and had a boarding pass issued for that.

About 10 minutes before boarding, I got a personal page, and got presented with a new boarding pass for 3A :(

Turns out there were no J pax at all on the flight.

That was slightly disappointing :(

On Australia Day, me and +1 flying MEL-SYD in the afternoon. Had seats 3A + 3B.

While waiting in the lounge at ca. T-60 got paged, front desk told us we were upgraded to Business Class, but seat only no J catering due to short notice (fair enough).

Anyway, on boarding I noticed reason for the op-up, Equipment change from 738 to 73G. So had the old PE seating in row 1, with the fold-down table in the centre. Nice legroom, no complaints. When service started, the cabin supervisor took care of the 2 paying J pax in 1D and 1F, all other 6 pax seated in J (incl us) were obviously upgraded as no one else received J service. BUT: the Y FA started her drinks and food service in row 3, the designated J cabin FA only cared for the 2 paying J pax, so no drinks or food or anything for us. (To be honest I didn't bother on this short 55 mins hop, but they simply "overlooked" us which is not good enough.)
