The End of Cheap Status

I've just flown AA JFK-DFW-PDX-LAX-DCA-DTW-DFW between Oct 22 and Nov 6. All in First (A), except for DCA-DTW due to single class aircraft.
QFF has credited them as Flexible Economy with 4100 fewer points and 380 fewer status credits then I was meant to get.
That is not unusual for A class travel on AA - you will need to put a claim in.

First time I've seen it since I started using DONE3 tickets.

Happened to about 1 in every dozen flights for me.

A class is (was) both an upgrade fare bucket as well as discount first.

It can work the other way; have seen reports going back to last decade of A class travel (when using an eViP to upgrade) sometimes posting as First.

Last min credit for me was a DEN-LAX late last year in revenue A that posted as discount economy.

hmm... This is my 7th DONE3 with 5 or 6 A class US flights each time, with this the first time it's happened. Only difference is this was ticketed by QR while the others were issued by AA, CX or QF.

I guess I'll have to call/email to claim this? I'm under the impression that using the missing points claim form will just result in a "rejected - already posted" auto post.

Email QFF [email protected] with a copy of the BP and itinerary and just state that you've been incorrectly credited. It's common for AA A/P classes.

I spoke to AA by phone today and the operater assured me that the shift was to a 2 cabin a/c into first/business and that I would still accrue status credits as booked. I will just have to wait and see I suppose.

This is not really likely to be true. AA agents have no idea what booking code QF will choose to credit these flights.
British Airways have already confirmed reduced earning as J for their members on the reissued flights and I would be very surprised if QF doesn't follow suit. Except maybe they won't announce the reduction and just leave it as a kind of nasty surprise to some.....

Ouch!
How disappointing!
Hopefully you can make a successful claim.

Anyone know what's going on with AA award availability?

I just had a look on the Qantas website to see how AA domestic F awards are being priced now. I searched on a range of routes and dates and did not find a single domestic AA award in either J or F.

Can anyone recommend a decent Status Run on AA for next April? The prices now seem to be around US$1350 - gone are the US$850 days it seems :(

April... easy. $1400 AUD for 760 SC's at the moment for YVR-PTY.

Seems to be a 6 sector flight with only 2 sectors in First. How does it earn so many SC's?
It's a return fare and can only be booked as a return fare. It's a total of 14 sectors. No sectors book as F.

Happened to me earlier this year. Simple matter of claiming with QF as I had the BPs.

There is a very lengthy and very helpful thread on this topic. May I suggest we keep this thread to its own topic.

I poked them about it on twitter. Sent them the PNR and QFF number. They looked into it.
Statement still claims it was flexible economy, but the points/SCs have been fixed to the F earn rate.

Guess I'll be getting the D rates next year. :(

I wish they would count J/F domestic Japan flights differently, when booked as part of an international J/F fare, instead of giving them Y/W rates. They have the lower rates because JL has cheap "upgrades" on their domestic premium cabins, but booking them as part of an international ticket doesn't use that cheap upgrade surcharge and they have an exception for JQ (L earns when booked on a oneworld ticket when it normally doesn't earn anything).

A message from the Qantas Earning tables:

~ Effective for travel on or from 11 January 2017, American Airlines First Class domestic bookings will be eligible to receive Qantas Points at the Business earn category rate due to booking class changes made by American Airlines.
# Effective for travel on or from 11 January 2017, American Airlines will only allow flight bookings in A, F and P classes within the US for flights between New York and San Francisco and between New York and Los Angeles when these routes are operated by a three-cabin aircraft to earn at First Frequent Flyer Earn Category.
