The End of Cheap Status

One note: when AA decide to recode their flights from F to J, what will happen to existing bookings which are booked to fly on dates after the change cut over date? Will they earn at the old rates, and if they do, will they include:
  • Any bookings made before the announcement of the change, or
  • Any bookings made before the change cut over date?
I imagine that any bookings made before the announcement or at least before any YUPP fares are covertly switched to sell as J rather than A or P will remain at those booked codes (i.e. A or P), thus ensuring that anyone in any of those cases above will still earn in First.

For AA to effect a change on all bookings after a cut over date, they would need to issue new / changed bookings which may not change the flights but would change the class codes.

All of my known travel for next year is already booked and ticketed. I've checked all AA domestic F sectors in the QF points earning calculator for the exact dates - and still showing as F level earning, so that's not yet been updated. If QF changes things prospectively, it might jeopardise my P1 retention! I may have to, for the first time ever, do a QF status points run!

Im in NYC and YVR in Dec this year. I was intending to do a status run. Probably YVR > PTY. Ive had a read of the thread but it isnt really clear to me how likely is it that the F status credits will be posted or not? Anyone have a read how likely it might be?

They won't be affected at all. Will post as full F

It's from a date in January going by reports - for that QFF don't need to change much, if at all. D/J/C/I earn as business now and I suggest will continue to do so.

The schedule change in Nov only affects flights from Jan 2017. No others will be reissued if I understand it correctly.

That's correct. The schedule change will occur on 12th Nov, for flights 11th Jan onwards. Luckily I have all my ticketed AA domestic F before 11th Jan!

They are also introducing domestic PE sales using some of the reassigned fare buckets.
I read about AA new international PE, but haven't heard of domestic PE. Is this a rebranding of MCE into PE?

AA has used W for regular domestic for quite some time now. It's just a regular mid range Y bucket.

A post from FT from the guy who as mentioned upthread is pretty reliable regarding AA stuff:

The silver lining most saw coming: Z class bookings on non-transcon will be moved to U, which should translate to cheaper redemptions.

AA have started to re-classify existing bookings from First to Business. Previously we had people booking in P class, and AA have just changed those bookings to I Class. So the change is being made retrospective.

There aren't any retrospective changes for QF to comment on.
I'd assume QF earnings will be as per the current table for I Class on AA
Qantas Frequent Flyer Earn Categories

BAEC have already confirmed reduced earnings on two Class domestic F at J earn rates.

EDIT: Very much on the upside though, Classic Awards and One World Awards are likely now a lot more attractive in the LOTFAP
