The "I am in self-isolation" thread

@serfty you are quite a way ahead of us. Any tips would be appreciated.
We have older friends who are not well but we cannot visit them due to our lockup.
i got on the exercise bike and I can get to watch the passing parade in our street and across the river so that was relaxing.
Mrscove still seems to be a nice person by letting me get two up on her in AFL tipping.....

I think chunks of Australia will be getting shut down in the next fortnight as too many seem to be thinking it is a joke. Judging by the beach crowds I think we have a problem that could get worse once the season changes.

Yes. Given the incidents reported on AFF, Bondi, and the drunks yelling and wandering in the streets outside my apartment in the CBD right now; only monitored curfews are going to come anywhere near what is going to be required.

They are having the same lack of responsible behaviour problems in the UK. Social irresponsibility and non-compliance seems to be an unfortunate feature of a significant cohort of the population of western societies.

Just catching up - are you in London or Perth?

I haven't bothered reading this thread.... so forgive me.

IMHO...

# What we've seen on Bondi Beach is directly related to most national sports carrying on as usual

# What we see with pubs, clubs, etc is directly related to seeing that life can continue as normal when we see sports on TV

# Stay inside and save you parents, grandparents, and all those strangers you pass without a second thought

We have just completed day 7 of 14 and haven't gone crazy just yet. Our is a little easier though as it started before we got home so it's actually only 10 days locked down at home.

I'm figuring Tuesday will be the start of the hard times when I get the having to do the jobs I have been putting off.

MrMac & I self isolating as he's in the high risk category - highly compromised immune system, over 70, barracks for Collingwood..I put a sign on the door and it worked a treat on the guy who came knocking - I didn't catch if it was energy supplier or lightglobes but it was amusing to see how quickly he turned tail. When I say self isolating - i have ventured out a couple of times, and planned on a Bunnings run in the morning to pick up paint for the next project. Finally realised that's just silly, every time I go out is another opportunity to connect with the germ. I'm sure I can find someone to collect the things I need.

@amaroo we are back in Perth after a full 3 nights in London.. Fizzog trip which was meant to be a holiday.

I know how you feel. Got to MSY on my DONE4 with only 2 of 8 weeks completed and Ireland and Europe yet to come. Backtracked via QF8 at alarming expense, which I hope insurance will cover. It is, as you say, a fizzog trip.

Surely it was an obvious outcome ? .... obviously not.

@codash1099 it is really nice to hear we are not alone. We got home in a hurry from London using AA miles on Qatar. The trip home was wonderful but we got the hazmat suited folks at Perth airport.

No we only had 2 hazmat suited folks once the announcement on quarantine was made. We were the first two off as we were the only two in first class on QR from Doha to Perth. Our driver picked us up and took us home in 20 minutes. Been home ever since. We were told we could only break quarantine for medical assistance and we haven’t needed that.
Because we employ many there is no way we would want to mess up and drop into our work. Work runs quite ok without us.

Checking in to the Hotel Isolation...

Tomorrow will be time to properly read this thread and see how folks are getting bread, milk, fruit and veg.

Well Scarlett in Perth we have used deliveries from iGA, our butcher and our fruit and veg shop. We are friendly with all of these places so that has worked nicely.
It would have been a bit more difficult in London or Los Angeles and we would have needed to order from Waitrose or Ralph’s and Trader Joe’s and wait for their 2 hour delivery.By now that 2 hour delivery may have blown out to 2 days and we now have to leave our flat/apartment to receive those deliveries. It used to be to our door but that changed this week. Not so good where you are trying to self isolate.
I believe many would not be doing the isolation like us in this thread and that folks in Perth are ducking off their properties thinking that would be ok. If we were infected we would become super spreaders of the virus by doing that.
Being 70 and nearly 70 and having to take heart drugs put us in a high risk category.

Complete contrast to London, where it's very rare any of your 6 neighbours will speak to you. Grumpy as ever, COVID-19 hasn't changed a single thing.
It's quite weird. Before we were living in a nice Eastern suburbs home. Genteel you might say. And only had 1 neighbour that we got on really well with plus we looked after the little old lady next door who was very sweet but her very adult sons were toxic and nasty. We've moved to an apartment block of 4 units on the western suburbs. Less genteel. Two of us are renters, two are owners. And you know what? The community spirit is way way better. We bring in each other's bins, pick up papers and talk to each other. Very surprising. We are all of an age where we should all be fine. Well, that's the plan.

There is a cruise ship sailing out at the moment. WTF? I think SA will be doing a Tassie and ceding. Please Just Do It.

We are self imposing a shut down. Will only go out tomorrow to get a flu shot and a quick stock up. Tonic hard to find in Coles. Word is spreading about quinine. On a lupus forum the treatment is getting hard to find thanks to Covid.
