The "I am in self-isolation" thread

Groceries stores will certainly remain open, but there was a run on them in London in the few hours after the lock down was announced -- people panicking etc.
RooFlyer the food supply cannot be stopped.
i think there could be tightening announced today but food, medical/pharmac_, transport must keep operating.

That's what I thought. I come 'out' on Tuesday or Wednesday, but have no intention of rushing out and doing/buying anything - hmmm maybe some cheap booze, if neighbours can't supply by then :)

I wonder whether those who cannot control alcohol intake will have the problem exacerbated during the self-isolation times

Yes, and I know you mean to cover this as well, but I am concerned about all the children who are abused. And, as the police are not doing breath testing and there are now more drunk accident cases in emergency I have heard, just when we specially don’t need that sort of thing. And presumably bad fights and more frequent drug overdoses and violence.

I worry about those trapped in domestic violence situations

I have a case of Little Creatures in boot of my car. Been there, I’m guessing, for six or so weeks. I’m planning to bring that up. Should last three weeks barring visitors coming when self-isolation ends coming Wed.

And then there are the less obvious necessities.for example home care. There are many in our community that wouldn't be at home if not for nursing and other care provided under various packages.Stop that and our hospitals will be slammed plus it then puts the most vulnerable in the worst possible place they could be.And if they get Covid 19 you put the hospital workers at greater risk.
Also severely demented folk in Nursing Homes. When they get totally confused and aggressive the best therapy is a calming voice preferably from a voice they still remember like a relative.Going to be great numbers knocked out with sedatives and anti psychotics with a corresponding increase in mortality.

Well @Foreigner i rarely drink alcohol at home by myself. I do have Crown, Bud and Coopers beer. About a thousand bottles of wine downstairs in the cellar. I think I will go a good red today because I can. Mrscove doesn’t drink alcohol.
i looked up your suburb as I don’t explore much in Sydney. Looks like a nice suburb.
Most of my favourite haunts must be shuttered now in Sydney.
Stay safe and don’t panic if the $AUD goes up for a change.

Day 9, went out and ran the wife's car for a while since it's been sitting there for a month (mine's an EV so no such problem). I imagine a few neighbours probably had the phone receiver in their hand ready to call up and report me but I didn't go any further than the driveway ;) I'm sure we will survive however many more weeks there are of this, but it is depressing that I likely won't get a chance to run to Bunnings before the next lockdown - there's a lot I could be doing but given the lack of delivery options for gardening supplies, it will just have to wait I guess.

Tomorrow morning when self isolation finishes, off to the gardening centre for me. Been tidying the back yard and garden while stuck at home - been rather therapeutic and good for the Vitamin D levels...will keep the activity going

Some Bunnings have restricted hours for non tradies. Lots of people have also decided to be on gardening leave so be prepared for not a lot of choice of plants and potting mix etc. Maybe worth trying to figure out when they re stock in the gardening section.

I'm eligible for Woolworths online delivery. I added the items I needed than decided to add some alcohol (we were supposed to be in Bali this week) so we can at least enjoy something. Added a few other items such as cleaners, flour etc. maybe 15 items in all. When I proceeded to check out the only things left in the basket that was available was the alcohol!

Amazing how quickly we have taken on the American phrase “shuttered”. In Australia, we don’t have things that are shut any more. 🙂. Or, does it mean things are shut for longer than just a day or two? What’s the implication? (perhaps I should put this in the grammar thread). Maybe because in America they actually have shutters but we tend not to, except maybe a liquor store or other a very attractive smash and grab type places.

4 days to go, but in a rush of blood to the head I decided to take notice of a few of the symptoms and voluntarily had a Covid test. At best I'm free soon but it could mean either another 14 days. I'm not prepared to contemplate the worst outcome.

I heard that Boris only has to do 7 days isolation after the positive. Seems much too short?

Not in our place @get me outta here as I have a use by date safety officer here who chucks stuff out.
We are back upstairs which is quite a way from the fridge and pantry.....almost safe from an attack of hunger......

How do you voluntarily have a test? I thought they were hard to get unless you were showing 'advanced' symptoms. Which state?
