The "I am in self-isolation" thread

In Australia there was a move to go to 7 day isolation about 3 weeks ago - usual incubation period for the virus is 4-5 days.. but WHO ’decided’ we should toe the line with the rest of the world so I can understand why Boris ‘May’ only do 7 days

Amazing how quickly we have taken on the American phrase “shuttered”.
"Shuttered" had its US roots in tornado prone regions.

They were generally used to protect fragile glass against the elements.

There is reference here:

Day 14. I should be really excited, the shopping list is impressive, but deferring excitement to day 15, just in case Scomo appears on TV tonight with an announcement to screw everything up. Ordered a rice cooker and 2 half cases of wine online. Ready for the apocalypse, as long as we continue to have rice and power. If not there’s still the wine.

cheers skip

And then there are the less obvious necessities.for example home care. There are many in our community that wouldn't be at home if not for nursing and other care provided under various packages.Stop that and our hospitals will be slammed plus it then puts the most vulnerable in the worst possible place they could be.And if they get Covid 19 you put the hospital workers at greater risk.
Also severely demented folk in Nursing Homes. When they get totally confused and aggressive the best therapy is a calming voice preferably from a voice they still remember like a relative.Going to be great numbers knocked out with sedatives and anti psychotics with a corresponding increase in mortality.

My mother is nearly 94 and living on her own in Adelaide with support twice a week for an hour. She is very alert and resilient but the SA border is closed and how do we know one of the carers won't infect her. All very stressful 😞

How do you voluntarily have a test? I thought they were hard to get unless you were showing 'advanced' symptoms. Which state?

WA. I checked with the 1800 number first, but it wouldn't have made any difference. I just rolled up to the test station, answered a couple of questions, showed them my boarding pass to prove I was overseas within the last 14 days and that was it. I had a cough (nothing I would normally comment on) and a bit of breathlessness.

It may have helped that I was the only one there at the time.

Foxtel Go! You beauty ... !

I invested in a couple of discounted Chromecasts last year but they had remained dormant generally since I decided not to renew my 'free' kayo. (As an aside - I suspect Kayo shares are not the flavour of the month.).

Daughter showed me I can watch old Foxtel shows on demand with Foxtel Go (based on my current subscription) - moreover I can cast it!

Watched the first four episode of "Westworld" over the last two nights ... another 2½ series to come.

Apparently this gives wriggle room for some states to take enforcement action while other states will opt for guidance

We are not in total isolation but now 12 days with the family and being in the same house at the same time we are becoming a little stir crazy. MissM has made the main bathroom her new office, MrsM and I just switch between the guest room/ office when we cannot agree on what should be watched in the living room.

This week is my designated WFH in the DPRSA for another 7 days, I would really like things to go back to 'normal' soon.

I have to get to work on Tuesday for some documents witnessed and some My Gov updates. Getting out of lockup after 14 days......
i won’t be at work for too long due to family pressure. I will work at home seeing I am in the 70 age range.

Fast result. Just had an SMS to say that I’m clear of Covid-19. So resuming mandatory isolation with 4 days to go.

Thanks for the support.

I think we are all going to join you on this thread - well we all should...theee will always be those who don't.

For those that have been isolating prior..how do you feel now things aren't really going to change. Is it a hard adjustment to go from knowing you can "be free" to what today's reality is?

We isolated Thursday (kids last day of school)... But do have to go to work..keeping that to a minimum though. (We have a business where you can't work from home so our staff are all at work, thankfully we can keep them all employed)

It's the kids I feel for most. There's every chance school won't resume as normal next term with Coronavirus Cabinet's refusal for a hard lock down ... and it will be a long time until they can hang with their mates. Lucky technology helps but it's not the same.

Hello. So, I'm back. Had my few days 'self-isolating' from AFF. Did it help. I'm not sure.

Hang in there. MrSuze and I went through a rough patch but now we have stopped bickering and are just enjoying each other's company. I know that your marriage is not in a healthy state, but even when you dislike someone eventually you find a way to coexist.

It’s day 11 here. I’ve done all the cooking and am back to focusing on craft. Had the good news that one of my cousins is pregnant at age 41 so at least there is something to look forward to. Though it will mean an adjustment to my knitting plans. Looking forward to my release now!

Our marriage is good, while it's not been long we are hitting 8 years in a week and a half. I think it's just tense times as living in the UK it tends to be closer quarters than you'd be used to back in Aus, so that doesn't help. It's still cold, today it was 7 degrees.

Found a new recipe for you guys...not sure what "butter" Mary Berry is using but you need to add more

She does some great stuff, check out the trifle recipe. Yum.

Day 12 and I started using two 5 lb hand weights. Got my home work area tidied up and it looks good.
Looks like Australia is heading into a lock up of many more businesses than what we have now. So many jobs are vanishing.
Our business supplies agriculture and mining so we will probably be allowed to continue but with reduced staffing.
We are paying all our February creditors on Monday rather than Tuesday.
Internationally some of our suppliers are struggling to supply.

I thought I was hedged nicely by working in finance and mining. I've lost both in the last few days, so that one went out the window. Looking down the barrel at a long period of no work now. The joys of consulting.......

Not too dissimilar to the UK, but as expected, about a week behind the curve.
