The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I called a friend yesterday and she immediately broke down, sobbing for about ren minutes. Fortunately she's ok financially but terribly distressed about what lies ahead. I'm also missing grandbabies but my daughters too, just want a lovely big hug. On the upside - how good is this buying on line caper? While I was buying a couple of essentials - I also couldn't resist a giant pack of Finish tablets & also spied a magnetic fly screen...only $19.95. &
bought 2 handbags on sale for forthcoming birthday gifts. If we're in home detention this could be a trap

I should have added - it's great you can track your parcels. Unfortunately the little counter they have showing where your parcel is - ordered - despatched - in transit , Australia Post neglected to add another - "vanished into the Great Delivery Black Hole"

I've been measuring it daily, to get a 'baseline' in case it starts rising. Under-the-tongue, it has varied between 36.4 and 36.8. Just now (before lunch), 35.9, with a repeat of 36.0 and 15 mins later, 35.8!
I registered 34.9 the other morning! I'm sure that verges on hypothermia! Generally my baseline is below 36 anyway, but that was weird.

Edit: someone was asking about sourdough discard crackers. Here's the recipe I'm going to try:

It'll be interesting to see if some - not all - businessmen switch to video conferencing and travel on fewer flights.

Its rise has been spruiked before, but hasn't really occurred to the extent hoped for.

My guess is it may grow, but the 'personal touch' will still be important (once we're allowed to again shake hands.)
As a (semi-retired) consultant, I hate having to do telephone/video conferencing. Often necessary when dealing with widely dispersed participants, but so unsatisfactory in terms of flow of discussion and trying to gauge reliability of what you are hearing.

Much is lost from not being in the same room. Innovation is the thing that is missed as far as I'm concerned. What price can you put on that.

I doubt there will be much of a drop off for business. Leisure will take quite some time to pick up though.

With acknowledgement to those not doing it so well, I have to say for the world gone to hell, today was pretty good.

It was a sunny day, cool, abt 18 degrees, and perfectly still. My neighbourhood (rural town outskirts) is pretty quiet at most times, but these days its - I was going to day deathly quiet - lets say very peaceful. Sound of waves on the cliffs close to me, various birds; I swear I could hear the worms turning in the soil.

I ended up sitting on my upstairs deck with a glass of Henschke Julius reisling (2016) reading one of my text books. Bliss (well, not the text book bit, but you get the idea) :)

Then, a parade on the footpath below of my neighbors-at-liberty; 4 sets over about an hour, so all the news and gossip exchanged at a respectable distance. We'll all agreed that when this is over, we are going to have the biggest neighbourhood party ever (well, for our neighbourhood, anyway ...)

Even better was the news about our neighbourhood's most elderly and vulnerable couple (both in their 80s). She was rushed to hospital 2 days ago in a serious condition (non viral). News today that the op went well; she was even laughing over the phone (more in relief, I guess) and he sounded like a, well, 40 year old, so pleased. One of the other neighbors has bought flowers on behalf of the neighbourhood for her on their return tomorrow.

It looks like we may be going into self isolation now, Mrs Flashback has developed a cough and seems to be generally unwell. She's not been out and about for a few days anyway, only I have with the odd trip to the shop but with social distancing. Fortunately we've lots of fresh fruit and veg and have enough food (I think) to do some batch cooking which should last us most of the 2 weeks. Better to be safe than sorry I'm thinking.

If @Flashback doesn't mind I will post it there

How accessible is testing for Mrs Flashback?

Today was day 3 for me. Flew back into Melbourne on Tuesday morning from Maldives via Singapore, a few hours before they closed the airport for non-residents and transit passengers. A bit of an adventure with multiple flights cancelled, borders closing in and stuck halfway around the world (away from the kids).

Thankfully using years of AFF experience, an expertflyer membership and some good service from VA & SQ I was able to come up with Plans A, B & C in case we got into any major issues (which we didn't).

Now navigating another 11 days of self-isolation with both of us working from home and a 3yr old and 5yr old who now also can't leave the house...

Interesting text books

I am starting to contemplate the finish line and that may not be hugely different to the following week. With gyms and pools closed I had better get my bike ready for rides on the cycle track .Mrscove walks.
I will get to see if the shops have been stripped bare
Will go back to two days a week at the office.

If you're in the UK, join in!

Nearing the end of day 1 and I'm feeling a bit of angst towards Mrs FB. I know I shouldn't, but emotions and all that. I just want to step outside the door, go for a walk.

It stems back to me not liking being told what to do.... I feel it's going to be hard to stay strong on this one.

Only 3 more sleeps to go!! Hopefully we’ll be able to get out and about a little before total lockdown occurs

My nephew who works in France while his family (my niece and two young kids 5 and 7) live in Adelaide. They were due to meet in Singapore about now for their 3 months visit. Obviously canned and it was looking like they wouldn't see each other for - god knows how long. Anyways. He managed to somehow get from where he was living in country France, to the airport and catch the last Dubai flight into Adelaide last Saturday. He has a cabin in a remote part of the Adelaide Hills and gets visits from SIL for food which is put into a container on the front verandah and is retrieved. His kids now know he is almost home. The littlest one waves at a distance through the window and sobs as they leave "I want to take my Daddy home". 8 sleeps to go little one. And please dear God, make that happen.
