Asking a stupid question, what's the difference between 12:01am and say 18:01pm tonight or another time tonight? Or is it just easier to write an NDA and other legal documentation that way? Or is it just a cruel way to make us all stay up late at night?

That is a very normal requirement when given access to proprietary information. It means DJ will probably do the announcement before then. May happen after the ASX closes today if they want a good opening tomorrow morning?

Why would DJ announce before midnight if they had am embargo on the info through to midnight? Wouldnt it make more sense for DJ to announce at the same time the embargo lifts?

12.01am seems pretty silly anyway, should be something like 9am or 10am.

The Embargo ensures DJ gets to do the announcement FIRST, to do it under their control, via their channels and at their timing. Suspect you will learn it this evening in time to make the evening TV news circuits.

Then we wait for QF to play their next card.

We live in interesting times, well at least for us FFers.

I understand that its normal, seen heaps of companies do it but just don't understand why til 12:01. Some thoughts were that they had to let the ASX know beforehand and it would then prevent any leaks or with the majority of newspapers reporting breaking news online it means that it becomes something written about at 1am and then becomes the first thing people read about when they get into work in the morning? Unless it is tied in with an international component on another timezone I just don't see the advantage of 12:01 over say 21:01 or 09:01. I guess it could just be a habit from another time or the standard when dealing with these kinda things.

I'd say whatever they signed says they can not talk about it 'today', from a legal point of view, today ends at 12:00. So although they didn't particually specify the time the media can talk about it. Legally, when it comes down it it thats when they say so.

The "inside" word on the release time is that it is it driven by an IT availability and best time to update the " partners" website....

Yup. Bet the NDA said "Today" and Today was defined as ending 1 minute past midnight. Anyway the ASX is now closed and the TV news hours start at 17:00 East Coast time, so should happen very soon.

I don't expect to see anything on the news tonight and besides which it would surely have to be very big, and I mean massive, to make the news?

Ok getting complex now but normally it is a either or event. Either the time runs out or the information is officially released, which ever comes first.
