The Operational Upgrade Thread

Just seeking peoples thoughts re upgrade possibilities.
QF009 MEL-SIN Sat 7th Jan

'Tis op-up season!

PE is obviously sold out but there is some space left in Business that YM are trying to sell.

J9 C7 D6 I7 W0 ...

If one was in PE, then high chance for a WP to be travelling Business instead.

I have had about half a dozen op-ups on domestic QF in the two years I was SG, all on red e-deals and mostly between MEL & SYD. The nicest was when they rang me as I was arriving at MEL for my flight, saying it had been delayed and asking me to head to the service desk near the gate soonest. There a couple of agents were frantically trying to move people onto the earlier flight. "Y's full" I heard one of them say, and shortly thereafter I was given a boarding pass for J :D

Being only SG at the time I was very happy with how proactive QF was with trying to look after passengers.

Another good one was when I was going to DRW. I'd ticketed:
MEL-ADL as a JASA
ADL-DRW as a JASA
DRW-ADL in cash Y
ADL-MEL as a JASA

Then DRW-ADL as a JASA was too expensive. But when checking in at DRW I was given a boarding pass for J, which was full. Thanks Qantas!

I just got paged in the BNE J Lounge just now received an opup for my flight this morning to Melbourne.

Also recently I received an unofficial opup of sorts, I'll leave the details a big vague so I don't get the CSM in trouble. I was seated in 4A of a 737 flight. The CSM offered me and the passenger in 4C the main dish and wine from business class but served on an economy tray. The two people in 4D and 4F received standard economy class meals. I have had business wine before when sitting in Y, but this is the first time getting a business main dish.

Y to J op-up yesterday on QF 553, was on a flexi-saver ticket.
Service was excellent, very quick to top up the Shiraz...flight landed as Sydney airport was shutdown because of
lightening, so we sat on the tarmac for 30+ mins. More Shiraz poured until we started our move to the terminal. Pilot and crew both did good jobs of informing people of the delay and reason why we had to sit and wait.

Cheers
BF

I unfortunately unknowingly did myself 'out' of an upgrade on Virgin Australia MEL-SYD for a 7am flight in Oct.

Turned up at the airport had already web checked in with a coughpy seat in the middle somewhere as that was all that was showing on webcheckin.
So proceeded to the Customer service desk once to see if they had exit row available, the CSA looked on her computer and goes "hmm thats strange, hold on one sec" She then called someone on the phone (at this stage I didn't know what was happening) and she was saying "Can you just check a booking for me... xyz1234.....on the system it says he is allocated 2A, not sure why that has happened, can you change his seat to exit row seat blah". "There you go Sir all sorted your seat as requested"

:( If I hadn't of asked for an Exit row I would have been flying in PE..

My lesson learnt is sometimes its better to not ask.! :)

Finally received the love from Qantas yesterday.

Flew QF6 SIN-SYD upgraded from PE to J and received full J service.

Check in agent was rather subtle with the upgrade but did say it was due to my loyalty with Qantas.

QF64 JNB-SYD; J --> F today. Found out more than 12 hours before the flight. Was checking EF for seat maps as I had a "D" seat downstairs and noticed it was showing as vacant. So i logged into manage my booking and tried to select my seat again only to get the message "seating cannot be confirmed". So I decided to try and confirm my seat thru online checkin and was stoked to discover I am now allocated 1K. Printed the boarding pass as well to confirm.

My first time in QF F. Had a few CX F flights in the past ex-HKG to SYD.

an additional note. This is the first time I have flown QF international since the grounding. I have been flying CX J via HKG to JNB. Maybe QF are now fighting for my business.

Does it still count as an Op-Up if you know a FA on a flight, who might be able to sort you out (yeah cause ermmm the IFE just wasnt working!)

Probably not, since it's not an upgrade due to operational reasons... and such details probably shouldn't be recorded in the public either.

QF 10 SIN-MEL last week
PE to J
I'm WP +1 is PS

Was tossing up for weeks whether to pay the 50,000 points to upgrade us both, but looking at loads it was totally overbooked so decided to chance it.
+1 was totally not happy having to travel PE (all at my expense mind you). At check-in I was a bit sheepish as we were given 34AB as chosen online. :( But at the gate given 19AB.
+1 says "this is what you predicted" :) hehe feeling a bit pleased with myself.

The issues with the delays on QF10 today and tomorrow make for interesting times.

QF72 SIN-PER (16 Jan) BA V class --> seat 2K
Just had an announcement that QF 10 is further delayed as they try to reschedule passengers on that flight (I presume with the domestic QF flights)

Note at the time I purchased the ticket QF was trying to sell L or M class for this flight but I did find the V class on BA. return at the moment is V class scheduled for June.

Also the checkin agent (at SATS premium) indicated that it is NOT possible to check-in online with QF if you are on a BA code-share ticket.

Happy wandering

Now here's one I haven't heard before:

Bloke (SG) clutching an infant approaches desk at boarding gate of a flight to PER & asks CSA "oh it's the 767, can I be upgraded to Business Class"?

It was explained to him than from time to time it's necessary to upgrade pax however the process is done by SYD (according to the tier status of a pax) not at a local level. He still had a seat blocked off next to him but that probably wasn't what he was after. :-|

copped an op upgrade to J on QF1 last night SYD - LHR. was booked in PE. at gate BP was rejected, another issued and 12K and 12A on each leg respectively.

never bothered to find out the loads or anything like that as I was happy to fly PE and keep points for when travelling with other half.

QF2 last week LHR-BKK Y to PE op-up on check in. Just did OLCI for QF2 BKK-SYD tomorrow and again, Y to PE. I am one happy chappy.
