The Operational Upgrade Thread

I have only had two op-ups - both when I was Gold and both operational...none since being Platinum
Don't expect any op-ups - if they happen, they happen.... am satisfied to fly in the class I paid for

I think you misunderstand how QF handle op-ups... unless you are CL (or possibly WP1), QF will only op-up if they have a genuine operational need to do so (oversold cabin, etc), not just to be nice to their premium pax. Being WP makes it more likely that you'll receive an op-up if QF need to perform one, but it'll still only happen if there's a genuine need.

I've also been WP for almost a year and have only received one op-up in that time, and that was during the month where QF were giving out op-ups like candy, as part "compensating" premium pax for the grounding.

then how do you explain getting upgraded from Y to premium Y on flights that have 50 plus seats in economy free?

Either QF made a mistake, there was some other issue other than oversold flight which caused this to happen, or QF/your checkin agent decided they would be nice to you and give you a one-off upgrade. Even if it's the latter it's not a true "op-up", and it definitely didn't happen as a "given" because of your status.

It depends on the sector. For example I have been on an oversold flight out of LA and there were ~5 free J seats and ~50 free Y seats because a truckload of pax mis-connected from the east coast.

Was the PE cabin full or empty?

Family of 7 wanted to be sat together. No blocks that could accommodate this due to scattering of pax around the cabin - except for a block of seven that you were the fly in the ointment. Three options for ground crew:

- Stuff the family and split them up then get complaints later that they saw all these empty seats
- Shuffle multiple pax around to create the required block leading to complaints about seat shifters
- move you to PE

I know what I would do...

Just an example of what could have happened not what did...

Felt the QF love again!!! :) Op Up to F on my SIN-LHR flight yesterday. Service was, as you'd expect in F, very good. If QF carries on like this I may just end up forgiving them for Joyce's grounding debacle.

Got my first op-up today, only a month after achieving platinum, on QF971 TSV-BNE. First day of school holidays and children galore incl. 15 unaccompanied minors.

It was a 734, but not complaining at all, and the service was excellent.

Great way to bring me home :)

I was on QF971 a few days ago, also oped-up (and it was also a 734). Likewise, excellent service. Thank you Qantas.

An unexpected op-up from Y to F with AA for a quick hop from MCI to DFW.

Only saw my name (together with another colleague's, both WPs) on the upgrade list at the boarding gate a few minutes before boarding.

I have not had an op-up in a very long time (on any carrier).

I don't think the gods like me.

From a sale Y to J (Emerald City no less) last night on QF128.
Quite unexpected as EF was still showing X8 before departure.
That's two in a row and I fear I've probably had my quota for the time being.
