The Operational Upgrade Thread

Party of three op-upped from W to J on BA15 from LHR-SYD.

Particularly happy about this because I wanted to use miles to upgrade (75,000 Avios for the three of us) but was knocked back because our OTA-booked itinerary included QF segments (currently, it's only possible to MFU ba.com bookings with non-BA segments). I'm 3/3 (100%) on BA long-haul op-ups in the past year (my 4 other long-haul BA flights were in F). Also very pleased to score two op-ups in a row on this particular trip (see my previous AA Y to F upgrade)! :D

Very nice! There is a big difference between WT+ and CW

Had my boarding pass scanned at Changi (QF through to SYD) last week to hear a BEEP, and see a message on the machine that said "UNDELIVERABLE HIGH". While I held my breath, the boarding gate girl pushed some buttons and handed my BP back to me - does anyone know what that message meant?

It sounds like there was a message in Altea that had not been delivered that was of high importance and the gate agent had to delete the comment in order for your boarding pass to scan. The comment would have been entered sometime after you had checked in.

It could have been if you OLCI with no bags there would have been a comment that said "check passports and visas" or you could have been in an exit row & you had not yet been verified as being suitable to sit there. If pax have unpaid excess baggage charges the system won't let them board until it has been paid.

At AFF drinks on Wednesday night I ordered a 300g steak but they gave me a 500g steak.

Now that is a big op up.

OBB has photo's

gotta love the post number

Op upped on a sold out 744 to Tokyo to PE.

First for a while - maybe those JASA's I've been taking with ~ SC's are improving my PCV... :D

Its part of the new mandatory drug testing when boarding aircraft in SIN.

You were lucky to be allowed to board the aircraft :D

Booked three of us in PE VA MEL-LAX and Y for the return leg. Got upgraded to J because there is a curtained-off set of three seats between PE and the bar, so they usually look for a party of 3 in PE if they need to op-up. On the way back from MCO to LAX the plane was late and landed at the departure time of the LAX-MEL. Luckily it had been delayed and our seats had been reallocated, so we got an op-up to PE.

A friend and I were on EK404 DXB-SIN-MEL in Exonomy
when we got into SIN everyone was asked to get off the aircraft, when going into the gate my friend was several people ahead of me to get his boarding pass scanned, he looked up to me like something was wrong then pointed a me as he was asked if he was with anyone. When I got mine scanned they started typing then crossed out my seat number and class and wrote seat 8something and business class.

I have always wondered why we were selected, I had only just signed up for sskywards to earn points for this trip so I had no status or anything, I also noticed that a lot of people just had there economy seat changed to another economy seat, and there was also another two people I noticed were upgraded.

I did check-in online with no bags, but of course went to the desk to have my passport checked. Oh well, thanks, at least it gave me a reason to post in this thread!

As you mentioned that a lot of people were having their seats changed, my guess would be an aircraft swap or a configuration change :)

Mother-in-law was Op-Upped business to first on QF6 from FRA-SYD. Don't think she has any status, and she was on a business one world explorer award ticket.

It was an older 747.

I always thought the FRA planes didn't carry first on them...

I had thought so too....may have been an equipment change. She said it was definitely first though.
QF6 does not have First class.

Sometimes a 4 class 744 is used.

In this case the 14 Old Style First class seats in Zone A are used and sold as "Business" - the passengers still only get Business class service and QFF points/SC's (where eligible).

The BP will state "Business".

I got an opup yesterday flying from KUL-SIN on MH with my QFF number loaded against the flight. Was beeped at the gate and "gate note loaded" flashed up on the scanner display. He spoke to the woman at the gate desk and it turned out to be an opup to 1D. They didn't even issue a new BP, the guy at the gate just crossed out my existing seat number and wrote the new one. The plane seemed to be totally full in both classes, I guess it was Singaporians returning home from Easter holiday.

Had you booked directly through MH website or through a TA?
Was it a cheapy fare or one of the more flexible ones?
