The Planespotting/General AV Geek Thread

I drove past MEL this morning and there were 2 JQ 787s parked up at the end of 16/34. Unfortunately I wasn't in a position to stop and take a photo.

So you are in the Lufthansa lounge at Moscow's Domodedavo airp[ort for a few hours. What to do? Why not take a few pics of some of the exotic birdlife there...

But first an interloper ... a flying pig:

One of the better known species. Personally, I'm not sure I could bring myself to get on board something that colour:

Or this colour (Saratov Airlines, presumably based at Saratov in central Russia):

Next, Vim airlines, operating about 12 birds out of Moscow (also uses bergundy plumage):

And then there is Transaero, based at Domodedavo (flying about 100 craft):

I'm not sure Ukraine Air is feeling that comfortable landing in Moscow. About 40 planes, based in Kiev.

Ural Airlines, came out of Aeroflot#, operates about 35 planes

# With break-up of the Soviet Union Aeroflot was broken up into - weait for it ... about 300 regional carriers  accordig to Wikipedia, af which many went out of business with aweful safety records.

UT Airlines, based waaayy out in central Russia (Siberia), has been around fo a while, does a lot of charter work around the world and runs about 120 planes:

Rossiya Airlines I think has been merged with Aeroflot:

RusLine, about 20 aircraft based out of Moscow:

Come in Metrojet, from western Siberia, a tiddler with about 8 aircraft:

Orenair, 30 planes from the southern Urals:

At last, another one with some 'brand recognition' for me. Azerbaijan Airlines, the national flag carrier with a surprisingly small fleet of about 30:

Ending on a stranger note. Just off the active taxiways at Domodedavo airport is what appears to be a small aircraft graveyard. Not the best look I would have thought for a major entry point into Russia, especially as the one at the back is from Domodedavo Airlines!

Some awesome pics.

Plenty of (active) Boeings and A320s.

That looks like an IL-86 in that last pic - by modern standards, those engines look TINY!!
