The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I'm flying return BA London City to Brandenburg, booked on the BA website. I registered my QFF number for the flights and they are now showing up on my Qantas app under "trips" but not on my Qantas account on the desktop browser screen (is that weird?). The Qantas "Earning Points and Status Credits Calculator" will only show me points and status credits earned for LON LCY to Dusseldorf or Frankfurt. Does that mean I won't be eligible for QFF points/status credits? Is there another calculator I need to plug the flights into? I'm so confused.

Not every flight booked with another carrier will appear in your account, so don't stress. You can MMB (manage my booking) on BA.com

And you should earn the same as other LON-Germany flights. See if LHR-BER works instead of LCY.
 
I've got a noob question as I've been out of the loop for many years and aren't familiar anymore with the best use of points. For me it seems I might as well just use them (have ~300k collected over 10+ years) to book flights in economy because AFAIK they made the change long ago that discount economy isn't eligible for upgrades and you need to book a regular economy fare or flex to even be eligible for business class upgrades (best use). The new introduction of classic plus awards alongside the old classic means there's a ton of stupidly high point requirements for the leg I want to book ~100k vs 33k + taxes. From what I've read around the place they only release classic awards in batches so I'm wondering whether they would ever overlap batch releases over timeframes that have already had some released? and maybe closer to departure to fill seats? Or are they further into the future starting when the last batch ended? The reason I ask is that there is one flight which is doable for me but a bit earlier than I would've liked (few seats left, 33k + $200), and it's actually qantas flights and not jetstar (which are usually cheaper on taxes requirements). The flight I'm looking at is a bit over 3 months in advance. Would it be worth gambling to wait and see if more seats are released closer to the date that I prefer later in the month? Or maybe should I just book and risk losing 6k in points cancellation if I change my mind on going at all?

Looking at the classic rewards flights for the next week, there's a ton of them available also at 33k points + taxes so maybe they release more at the last minute just to fill the planes? The airfares for this week are full price as well.

Depends on the route you are looking for! If it’s a high demand route, at a peak time, unlikely more seats are going to be released.

Yes true, something I didn't fully consider for the classic rewards seats. It's completely available for the next few weeks but it's becoming hot humid summer so maybe fewer travellers. The targeted season for my next trip is peak autumn for the colours so it might be more popular around that time so most flights already booked (near school holidays). I'm still stuck in two minds whether to book, especially if there's some kind of discount (30%) in the near future. Even more annoying is that is says "seats nearly gone" and 5 or fewer seats left, so it could be literally 1 or 5. Will probably need to get that crystal ball out, or just pay for the flights if I miss them on rewards...

I suppose I'm posting mainly because I'm looking for comments and knowledge about how these classic rewards seats are released (these days) and any tips on whether to wait or book right away (don't hesitate) because maybe someone out there has more personal experience/observational knowledge.

If you find a seat, book it! Award seats, especially in premium cabins, get snapped up fast. You may find the odd seat on a partner airline becomes available closer to the day of travel, but I wouldn’t bank on it for QF internationally. They have plenty of folk lined up for points upgrades rather than needing to release extra award seats.
 
I just booked Air France using Qantas points from SIN to CDG which is my first business class redemption! I did not have enough points to book from Sydney (I also didn't see availability), so I am taking an economy flight a day earlier to explore and give my self a buffer.

I am finding it hard to decipher which lounge is available to me at Singapore. This link says I have access to the the Singapore (Qantas Lounge) if booked on a Qantas flight number on a codeshare route.

You will have access to whatever Lounges Airfrance make available at SIN.

Ordinarily you need to be on a QF flight number to access Qantas lounges when flying AF and oneworld marketed and operated flights to access other oneworld lounges.

Literally, asking for a friend here....

She is travelling with two children on a single booking. If she has three lounge passes, does each child need to have their own QFF account and one pass per pax? Or can the one pax (the mother) have all three and link the three passes in the booking without needing to sign up the kids?
