The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

What do you mean by linking? For what benefit?
Being known as a travelling party, it also opens up some seating options (and somehow even extended plat shadow seating).

I know this is an easy thing to do with 2 separate QF tickets

The food off the bbq varies in PER. It's also more than a skylight as it's actually open air the outdoor area with louvres that can close if the weather is bad. The PER lounge is definitely better than the MEL one by a long shot. I've not been to the BNE one.

I really like the guided stretching/mindfulness sessions they run.
They have converted the yoga / mindfulness area at PER into more seating.

Are you using points or cash?
If points, you can book the itinerary yourself via the multi-city page (flight 1 would be PER-LHR, flight 2 LHR-LJU): https://www.qantas.com/au/en/book-a-trip/flights/multi-city.html
If cash, you should use a travel agent or OTA so both flights are on the same booking.
That way you can just transit in LHR, and two hours is plenty of time given you don't have to change terminals.
Thanks!

Was booking with cash.

I called a few travel agents and they all said it was not possible to have the baggage checked through, they said I would need to pickup and recheckin.

I found this https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnec...on/interline-and-through-checked-baggage.html which seems to indicate its possible.

(as starting from AU need to use the AU web site)
If you look at the table for seperate PNR QF will only interline
  • QF to QF
  • QF to EK
  • When one flight is an award "^ Exemptions apply for customers travelling on a oneworld separate PNRs when using a combination of award travel and revenue travel."
BA is not listed

Thanks for that, yeah was on the wrong site. OK looks like it's not possible.

I wonder how long it takes them to do the same with their upcoming heavily publicised 'wellbeing zone'

Just cram the people in and take the money is the usual motto for both lounges and flights...
I believe the well-being zone uses space around the galley, that couldn’t be otherwise used for passenger seating. They have added some fixtures to turn the space into one that is useable.

I can’t see a good reason for them to remove this. But I don’t think it’s a specially large area to start with!

What is the MCT* for QF T3 to BA T3?

*MCT is "Minimum Connection Time", being the shortest time allowed for connecting flights on the one booking.

Trying to book QF codeshare flights on EK to MAN for June/July next year. Can find the outgoing flight but return not showing up, only BA/QF metal options via LHR. Do EK flights only show when there is less time to trip ie 328 days vs 353?

AFAIK, it's about 332 days for EK.

More a Canberra newbie Q than QF, but given that's what I'd fly: how does fog conditions impact flights CBR-SYD and MEL-SYD?
I'm guessing 737's and A220's still operate, but not dash8... any tips when choosing early or mid morning flights??

My understanding is that the first flight out is pretty safe as the aircraft will have overnighted there. Any flight after that will depend on the incoming plane being able to land, so is less certain.

It depends whether you're trying to get into Canberra or depart from Canberra. Fog creates issues for any aircraft trying to land into Canberra. That has the knock on effect for all following flights.

If the aircraft is sitting at Canberra overnight, there's a better chance it will leave on time - although icing can cause delays as there is only one de-icing truck.

If you absolutely need to be somewhere else in the morning when flying out of Canberra, either go out the night before, take the train, or there is always Murrays Bus (buy the extra seat)

I am trying to book a connecting flight from Perth to Ljubljana, Slovenia on Qantas.

There is the Qantas flight QF9 to London, Heathrow which lands at 5:00am in Terminal 3 (28th of September). Then there is a BA flight that leaves at 7:00am from Terminal 3.
I would have more time for the connection, if possible. The T3 transit security is a raffle: I've been through it 'gate to lounge' in 25 mins but also spent 90 mins getting through. There's no priority lane and sometimes they have only 3-4 lanes open but an influx of large planes arriving at the same time. Plus, the scanning is slow. Add to that the possibility of QF9 arriving late.

If you can get a later connection on the day, that would probably work out best. If not, absolutely book the flights on the same ticket.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether the end date that's stated on the "membership year" section in the Qantas app is inclusive of the last day.

I'm 5,000 points short of retaining Points Club and I'm flying on that day so the earn should get me over the line.

Do points earned on that day count towards retaining Points Club? And do status credits earned on that day count towards retaining status? I want to retain my highly prestigious Silver...
