The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Why not SYD-ICN on QF and train from there?

(Hoping the Train to. Busan is not too scary...)

Hello, wasn’t sure exactly the best place to ask this. I am trying to fly Sydney to Busan (return) on oneworld airlines, ideally Qantas taking me the majority of the way (I want to be able to upgrade with points)...

How would I go about having this booking all on one ticket?
Is the connection time too tight?

If not maybe Amex travel (or any travel agent) can do over the phone

Maybe as KE/KAL is not in OW, they can't link the flights.
Would you be happy to do as above mentioned, ie, get SYD - ICN and then train.
Or if not, just pay a premY seat HND - PUS, or a Y/J seat, and put in a ST FF # if you have that, or join up, if you have further plans to fly int.
DL to the US, etc.

I did consider this option, unfortunately QF don’t fly on my preferred dates resulting in additional travel days that I don’t want. Also I prefer air travel to train travel, but if it worked out I would do this.

Doubt it, I tried all different combinations with plenty of time for connection 3+ hours. Just to make sure I tried with 12 hour connection and still unable to work.

I haven’t used a TA in a very long time, would they have better access to book something that I can’t online?

I can book HND <> PUS on JAL codeshare as stand alone ticket which takes my QFF# which brings me to my next question, would this still earn points/ sc with QF if its a JL flight number but on Korean Air?

Doesn't look like it:
"Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes, except on JAL and Japan Airlines affiliate codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas or a oneworld member airline."

Never heard a case of where flying on a non OW partner airline, or not in the QF alliance (LA & EK is a partner of QF), so , and being able to earn QFF points & QFF SC on these 2 will work, but not on anything else.
Are you sure you are able to add your QFF # onto the HND - PUS booking?
Maybe if it was a JL plane, and JL flight #, but on a KE/KAL plane, unlikely.
Or you might find 0 earn if somehow your QFF # sticks in that particular booking.

Hi all! Just hoping to get some more information on qantas double status promotion. If I register for the double status promotion but make a booking via the qantas business rewards website, will I still get the double status credits? Or do I have to book via the usual qantas website?

It shouldn’t matter. Even a booking made via a TA or Webjet etc should be fine so long as it meets the eligibility criteria: register before booking, QF flights, booked in the booking window and flown before date X etc.

I think someone recently made a thread about this complaining. No earn on JAL codeshare with KE.

Didn't want to start a new thread - but a query about early bag drop.

Arriving into Sydney late (Say 10pm) and have a flight out the next morning around 9am.

Would I be able to bag drop the evening before for my flight? It is within 24 hours - but note it is the day before

Are laptops allowed to be stowed in seat-back pockets on domestic? Sitting in 4D on a 737 and just witnessed a fairly heated argument between a pax and an FA - pax saying he’s a frequent flyer and he’s always been allowed to keep the laptop in the pocket, with 2 FAs saying it needs to be in the bin overhead. Descending now, and they made a deliberate move to come back to him and make sure he put it back overhead for landing.

Personally I think the test is what I'd like to avoid hitting my head should the event arise

Apologies if I should have started a new thread for this.

What is the best way to monitor if new reward availabilities become available? I understand additional reward availability comes up for various reasons as we get closer to the actual flight date.

I have found the Qantas multi-city page pretty useful to see reward availability over a date range but I am looking for a specific day unfortunately.
