The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I have been saving my pre and post covid stash of QFF for our 25th wedding anniversary trip early next year. Anniversary is 28th Jan 2025 and hoped to book our first leg BNE DXB leaving on that date on Emirates in F or failing that in J on our way to NBO. From NBO we wish to go on to EDI and cannot book that leg by itself online and so need to wait until Thursday (15th) before I as a lowly bronze have visibility on those flights.
The trouble is at the moment I can't see any direct flights in all of January from BNE to DXB in any class. My searches send me via SYD, MEL and ADL.
This of course is ok but an unnecessary inconvenience when I know there are two flights leaving from BNE per day and Expert Flyer is showing award seats.
My hope is that it is just a glitch and the BNE seats will come back online at some point. Is this likely?
At this point I have little option but to just grab the seats going via SYD but here is where I need the advice.
In the hope that maybe the BNE DXB comes online in the future and can perhaps swap out my already booked SYD DXB for BNE DXB is it better for me to book this segment separately and then book the DXB NBO segment with the NBO EDI ?
The rest of the trip is planned as follows LHR OSL LYR TOS CPH CDG HND BNE.
Really appreciate any expert help anyone can give me on this, not sure if we will get to do another big one like this.
Thanks

Qantas frequent flyer status has no bearing on availability on partner airlines, such as Emirates.

What you see is what you get. Book it now and pay the change fee if better flights pop up at a later date.

Book it all on one itinerary so you only have to pay the change fee once even if you are making multiple flight changes.

Wanting to do all destinations with QF ff points?
For BNB DXB NBO EDI OSL LYR TOS CPH CDG HND BNE with QF points the QF Oneworld award is an option. But EK not allowed. Will be intermediate transit airports as all those routes do not have non stop Oneworld flights.
But very hard to get 2 x J awards about the dates you want. Having fixed/restricted dates makes it a lot harder. Airlines/routes/aircraft with long haul F are reducing.
QF may be offering you business BNE-SYD, etc and economy SYD, etc-DXB. Instead of busiesss BNE-DXB. Check *carefully*.

In EU land transport may be a better solution for some destinations. Or buy local flights.

Yes I understand It won't all be one world. The Scandinavian sectors I plan to purchase SAS on Black Friday in November. I did a dummy run on the bookings last year and there was still availability and huge discounts. So that the fares were about the same as OW taxes

Also know this might not be the most efficient use of my points but happy to "burn" them in favour of going to our bucket list destinations. Also don't know if the points could get devalued at any time, or one or both of us no longer able to mange long haul in any class. Carpe diem and all that.

@Kctoo absolutely agree to use your points they way you want, especially on this special occasion. Unfortunately the best advice I can offer is to book what's available now AND be flexible wrt dates.

Re Expert Flyer: the availability I can see is O "Business-Non-partner/Flex Award" which I believe is only available using Skywards miles.

Thankyou, Briar Flier at least I know I am not missing something. Wonder why the BNE flights are Skywards pax only but SYD MEL and ADL aren't?

Did EK just restart BNE flights or something along those lines? I read recently.
So maybe keeping reward seats for more of their own, not sure.

I don't know why QFF has Emirates BC ex SYD MEL and ADL for your particular dates but not ex BNE. My post was purely to point out that the Expert Flyer "availability" you saw was for Flex awards which are not available to partners such as QFF.

Has anyone sat in seat 4k on the internationally configured a330-200 and did having the toilet behind bother you with noise/smells? Only other seats available are the window seats in the rear cabin.

I’ve sat in 4K on that 332 a number of times, and never noticed any smell from the restroom… but while awake/aware, I certainly noticed the sound of the vacuum flush behind the J suite. Probably not enough to wake you up if you’re in a solid sleep, or with the right earplugs, but otherwise hard to miss.

Cheers,
Matt.

Just landed at changi to the wonderful message that my connecting QF2 flight is going to be 14h late.

Should i try with the QF lounge when it opens in 1hr here about potentially changing flights? I just called and the girl on the other end even though aussie sounding, did not sound very experienced.

No harm in trying. Best to get in quick as I’m sure many other passengers on that flight are already in the queue and asking about earlier flights. Unlikely to be too many spare seats around.

Half of them are in the air on the delayed plane i imagine given that it is QF2 after all.
