The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Recently hits 700 SC including 4 eligible QF flights. How long does it take Qantas to update my silver to gold status? My SC ring was gone in app and webpage for 3 days since then. Cheers

Been a while since I submitted a classic upgrade request, but is it normal for it to show unsuccessful this early (8 days out from departure)? Is there any chance of success still?

Assuming international, they’re processed and notified a lot closer. From the website:

  • Platinum One members; from seven days
  • Platinum members; from three days
  • Gold, Silver and Bronze members; from 24 hours

That was the OP’s point. Already knocked back 8 days out…😳. Which could mean the particular flight is chockers.

Upgrade requests would often stay open until “At the gate” but I have received “Computer says ‘No’” within the 7 day window (never more than 7 days).

Hi @djtech - usually, a CR upgrade would remain in the 'Requested' state in your bookings view until closer, so I'd actually suggest that if it shows 'Unsuccessful' rather than 'Requested', then you are out of luck.

It may be a sold out flight, or possibly the number of requests that have a higher priority exceeds the possible allocation of upgrades. P1 upgrades are processed at/from 7 days out, and then WP is often at/from T-60. Gold and the remainder are often only in the final 24 hours. If you wanted to give the details of the flight, we could check and see how busy it is.

Cheres,
Matt.

Thanks mate! That's exactly my point. Last time I submitted a request (pre covid days!) it was requested all the way until I checked in. This was something new to me so just wanted to confirm.
Anyways, posted on the AFF Help desk. Thanks in advance!

I get you. Sure looks like it's at Gate 11, but nothing obvious in fr24 other than flying int. QF9 left from hate 20 intl
I just thought of something. Maybe they're just "parking" it at gate 11. Its relatively close to T2 and if the T2 gates were full, this might be an explanation?

We had a thread somewhere about WP personal greetings onboard (by the CSM). I'd have a variation of it to add but can't find the thread. Anyone with sharper eyes and better search skills, please?

I wonder if theres any good reason at SYD T3 all the Melbourne checked bags come out at carousel 3.

Literally just stood here with 3 flights from Melbourne worth of people crowding around the carousel while 2,4,5 were empty. (All 3 flights landed within 10 minutes of each other).

Every time this happens in airports, I always wonder the same thing. Because perhaps a good reason will help me from wanting to machine gun everyone in the place with frustration at their trolleys smashing into my ankles!

Just booked 2x CR using QF points on QF website to fly UL (MEL-MAA-MEL). Booked as 2 separate trips (should not have done that, but was distracted and things went bleh! anyways).

Booked one of the trips yesterday and one today. Got the PNRs, points deducted and taxes taken from card.

Given that the flight is operated by UL, I was unable to do seat selection on QF website. So took the PNRs, headed to UL MMB, but can't seem to find where to do seat selection or pre-order meals on UL MMB. Usually these used to be under the "Service Details" section, but that whole section is empty for my PNRs.

Short of calling UL CC and have them select the meals and seat, is there anything I'm missing?

Am I doing something wrong?

Note: Posting it in this thread because I used QF points on QF website to make the booking. Happy for the post to be moved if this thread isn't the right place.

@Ade , is the trip a fair way off? I have a vague memory of a previous UL trip of mine (paid) not having anything selectable until a few months out. That was a few years ago, though.

Nah, this trip is under 3 weeks, departure date 18 Jun … it is weird I can’t see anything under the service sections. MH and TG uses (I think) a similar system and I was able to select seats and meals immediately right after ticketing …
Update to this - Tried doing MMB on various OW airline websites.

Quick recap - booked 2x CR one-way tickets using QF points on QF websites for flights operated by UL. MEL-CMB-MAA-CMB-MEL. Onward MEL-CMB-MAA is in Y and MAA-CMB in Y and CMB-MEL in J

Seat & Meal selection not allowed or even showed as an option in QF and UL.

1. QF, understandable as the whole itinerary is operated by UL.
2. UL, not sure why still can't see any options under the Services section in UL MMB. Given that the whole itinerary is operated by UL, I would have thought that UL will allow me to select seats or meals
3. AY - no Services section to select seats or meals
4. MH - surprisingly was able to select seats (but not all the seats that is allowed for OWE, shows some seats anyways)
5. RJ - tried seat selection and was showing all the seats (including extra leg rooms for FREE), but selecting one throws an error that "invalid FF card might be linked". So changed pax details and added QF number, still same error

Next step is to call UL and see what's happening.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Update 2: Spoke to UL - Was told that seat selection is only possible for FREE seats 48 hours prior to travel date. I asked what about OWE/Status pax, was told same rule applies to Status pax as well. That is weird, but apparently that's how UL is?

Had to press and ask a lot of questions before I could get any good information from the agent on the phone. It sounded like I go put thru to their L1 desk that can handle basic queries and not queries related to status or ordering their SkyCuisine (a service for pax flying J). When I tried to order meals via the SkyCuisine, UL website basically told that my PNR is not eligible for their meal selection (even though I was flying J).

I guess I will have to call another day and hopefully land a better agent.

3 for Vic ? As in the state prefix for fixed lines, postcodes, radio stations etc?

That seems way too organised though. Probably the closest chute to throw the bags down!

I made a complaint to Qantas and received an offer for a $250 travel voucher as an apology. The email said I'd receive the voucher within 4 weeks. This was about a week ago.

I need to book flights so replied and asked if the voucher can be expedited to me and got a reply to just wait.

Does anyone know how long these vouchers take to arrive? Is it the full 4 weeks?

My other half recently changed an upcoming flight (a revenue one) to an earlier date - no new e-ticket number was issued from Qantas but I've checked the RJ portal and the date has changed to the desired date / the e-ticket number is the same as the original booking - I'm assuming that it's all good? Thankyou.

Yes fine.

Revalidations like this (ie date change) do not normally require reissue.

Hello,

I'm wondering if what I'm seeing on the Qantas website is correct. I'm currently Silver and chasing Gold, looking at MEL-DXB cash economy return flights.

The QF website shows MEL-SIN-DXB flights, both sectors with QF flight numbers, though the SIN-DXB is operated by Emirates.

The SC earn on these is showing up as 30/40/60 (one way Sale/Saver/Flex economy):

I was under the impression that there would be SC earned on both sectors since they are both QF marketed flights. The SC shown seems to be for the MEL-SIN sector only.

However if I select a flight where both sectors are QF marketed and EK metal, the SC earn is in line with expectations.

My question is: are the SC earn figures accurate?

No, that doesn't look right.

You will earn SCs on both flights with QF codes (regardless of actual metal).

Use the earn calculator to check the expected earn (which it sounds like you have already).
