Sorry but the place is slipping. Im happy for variety but quality is dropping

I was there yesterday and had a superb experience. As a WP1 I was given a tour of the lounge and the duty manager Eric introduced himself to make sure everything was fine. I had a very engaging conversation wiith him and he made it clear how proud the staff are in providing what they hope is one of the best lounge experiences around.
It was my first time in the new lounge and I was suitably impressed. Good work Qantas.

Do you prefer the combined lounge experience to a separate First and Biz set up?

It's a marked improvement in terms of catering and space than the old first lounge. It didn't seem cramped and the space has been used very well. There are reserved seats for WP1 and CL.

I saw this last week and was astounded as to how fantastic the lounge looks, definitely the best J lounge I have ever seen. An absolutely stunning makeover, with a great balance of feel vs relaxed. It's a shame QF doesn't fly to Europe via SIN anymore and that so many people will never get to experience it.

Congratulations QF!

Congratulations QF!

While I agree the lounge looks great I didn't think the renovation did much layout wise.
Was impressed with the food and bar selection however.

Yeah I guess it obviously is still similar to previous. Although the BA lounge in comparison was hardly changed from previous, with the same few slivers of food. QF lounge had mountains of food, literally!

Although interesting, I noted that the QF mountains of food weren't covered from above (you know, from people leaning over it), whereas the BA slivers were covered, I thought it was a bit strange in SIN, where everything is pretty uber-hygenic. Not a complaint just an observation. I really dug the piles of food, was a feast fit for a king!

Sorry to say Qantas, but I hated the new lounge after a visit on Monday evening. It had the ambience of a food court.

After about 20 minutes sitting on the uncomfortable wooden seating (the only seats that were available) we decided to give the lounge a miss and went over to check out the Emirates lounge.

Now that's what I call a lounge. Comfortable seating, quiet and with a great view of the runway. They actually had champagne (and not Australian sparkling) and the staff made us feel so welcome and mixed up some great coughtails for us (while giving us some of their own creations to try). Food was self serve, but a chef hovered constantly replenishing anything that was taken. I enjoyed some of the beef and chicken satay skewers, along with a great seafood fried rice with scallops and prawns.

I left the Emirates lounge feeling so content that I skipped both meal services on the flight back to Sydney and slept like a baby.

So yes, I encourage everyone to continue using the Qantas lounge so that the Emirates lounge remains the sanctuary it was the next time I return :)

There are a number of cook to order options available as well.

Aah cool, I guess they were in the dining area (we sat on the couches). I was quite happy with the self service options though :)

Both Mrs Ansett and I are in full agreeance with your comments. For us the Sin Lounge is no better than a cafeteria as you say not the quiet sanctuary that one expects from a lounge. We too went to the EK lounge to eat and relax with the added bonus of real bubbles :D

Yet to make a visit to the new lounge unfortunately, but I would say that since it is actually a Qantas lounge, that both Asian (where the lounge is located, and the customers QF are trying to target) and Western (being Australian) tastes be catered to is not an extreme request.

Agreed.

Just because the lounge is in Asia does not mean every single food option should be Asian or African.

I have just spent 12 days in Thailand and from memory hardly ate any Thai food other than some very basic options like noodle soup. I love going to Thailand but I do not like Thai or Asian food. Just as well there are plenty of Western options otherwise I would have starved.

- Butter chicken as the only option at the buffet

and the cook to order

- Mee tai mak with beef tenderloin
- Braised chicken (sounds like the same slop in the business lounges in Australia)
So 12 days later and guess what? I made a mistake with the braised chicken. It is stir fried chicken. Woop dee doo.

Against my better judgement went to Emirates lounge and was surprised as they had grilled beef with an endless variety of other options and only about 10 people in the lounge where as the Qantas lounge has limited choice and the lounge was almost full.

I was there last night, and had the same observations. EK's lounge is very quiet and peaceful.

I am currently sitting in this lounge and am impressed. Have eaten some butter chicken and the beef noodle dish and both were excellent. A few glasses of good Aussie wine have also gone down a treat. I have found the "sofa" seating in the mobile free zone a bit hard and would like some way to listen to the tv not just watch. Was looking forward to creme brûlée but this seems to be gone. I have a few hours til my flight so will continue to eat and drink and hopefully fall asleep on the plane!
