The Qantas Singapore Lounge

Apart from 2 - what else does SIN fail on

When I was there, 8 and 9. And difficult to find a couple of seats.

Some people might argue #3 failed.

I have no idea what is meant by #6, unless that means that you can't just buy your way in, like Priority Pass.

I'll take the lounge over any part of the terminal, so I find it hard to fail on #8 or #9. In fact, almost any lounge can't really fail both of those; they just have varying degrees of success (and some environmental, e.g. open ceiling, like HKG vs. standard ceiling)

So three mods through the lounge in period of week :p. Should be moderately tested in due course
Is it safe to have that many mods out of the country at the same time?

(Actually, some may ask if it is safe to have that many mods in the country at the same time).

Simple Lounge Expectations

1) Peace and Quiet
2) Business Centre
3) Good food and drinks with good variety to suit multiple cultures
4) Shower facilities
5) Comfortable seating
6) Exclusive
7) Helpful friendly staff
8) Away from Crowds
9) A sanctuary from the normal airport hussle and bussle

Now how many of these does the Singapore lounge meet?

I may be negative but the Singapore lounge fails on many of the important requirements.

1) Fail. It's like a zoo.
2) Fail. Does not have one.
3) Fail. However, I like my Asian food, so it's fine for me.
4) Pass. Good number of showers available.
5) Arguably fail. You have to find a seat first, and the seats in the "dining hall" can be rather hard.
6) ? Given the crowd, it's probably not that exclusive. It's actually quite easy to find a much quieter and exclusive patch in the terminal itself.
7) Pass. They've been great most of the times I've been there.
8) Fail. Pretty crowded during peak hours. Although it would be a pass after about 8.30/9pm.
9) Fail. I need to go to the EK lounge to get away from the hustle and bustle of the QF lounge.

Speaking of which, I have extracted the 64 bit version of Bonjour for Windows. Drop me a PM if you would like a copy to be sent your way.

I'm enjoying how this thread has shifted a fair deal over time as the shinyness of The Qantas Singapore Lounge has worn off a little... I think what Ansett provides above is quite a reasonable list of expectations... and my thoughts on them as it relates to The Qantas Singapore Lounge, after numerous visits are:

1) Rarely. The open-planned, industrial design makes this very difficult. Adding sometimes inconsiderate guests and their little ones literally amplifies the issue.
2) I've never used this in an airport lounge myself, but if I wanted to... it couldn't be done here!
3) Happy enough with the food, most of the time. They lost me on drinks though when they took the Erdinger Weissbräu off after a couple of months, and also went from pints to 'schmiddies'.
4) As good as it generally gets.
5) In part, though the layout can make a lot of the solo seating quite awkward, and I also tend to think most zones are way too bright for weary travelers. If I'm not eating, I will generally look to see if I can get a quiet, dimly-lit armchair by the glass wall overlooking departures (the white armchairs)... and if there's not one there, I'll probably just wander off to another lounge.
6) Hardly, but not an issue this QF operated lounge has on it's own. The fact that you can buy your way in to a QP for yourself, a guest and up to 2 children on your LCC holidays I see as a real issue with regard to lounge 'exclusivity'. Perhaps more thought needs to go into QP access when on Jetstar international (leaving actual status PAX on JQ as they are). It's true that you can buy your way in via Priority Pass to certain lounges, but you also generally pay your way in 'per guest', and that would add up quickly for a family of 4 on multiple or multi-segment trips. The PP standard is often not as high as well... though you do get access to the Sky View Lounge at Changi T1, which is quite good.
7) Yes - No issues here - some of the best.
8) You're In a different area, but there's not necessarily any less density of people per square foot in here to the rest of Changi
9) For a normal airport, maybe... but this is Changi... so the need is less, in my view

Cheers.

Perhaps because I am from Perth and have to put up with our overcrowded lounge, but the 2 occasions I visited the SIN lounge everything was fine for me. Dairyfloss, I cannot agree with you re Jetstar International. Qantas has left these Asian routes and serviced them with Jetstar. Therefore I have no choice but to use them, so I insist on the sanctuary of the SIN lounge during stopover.

You know, there are other airlines... Just saying :p

FWIW, I have flown Jetstar Asia a few times, and they are okay, but the price has to be good for me to do that.

... and as a QF SG member I wasn't suggesting you be impacted by that proposal... I was suggesting Qantas Club (intention was 'paid' QP only) members with SG or lower status traveling on JQi were. I also doubt it would ever happen... :)

Just enjoyed some Aussie Ham, pasta and lamingtons, now a traditional Asian cheeseburger seems to have landed on my table, where are the western options ;)

First bit of real bacon for the weekend, yum yum yum. Pity Cynicor is on his way to PER, as he missed the treat, consolation prize is a Skybed for him while I am in Y, Cest la vie.

What's on the Asian burger? Looks delicious. And considering there are no burgers in normal Asian cuisine, that's a little bit of Western injected in there, especially if they used a sweet brioche bun. (Not forgetting that the Europeans brought some of their food custom to Asia, e.g. the Vietnamese banh mi from the French baguette).

Just had a crazy idea - has anyone ever asked the chef to fix them something a bit specific? I know that DrA - although didn't ask for a specific thing - did get fixed something that was vegan. Yes, it was Asian, but hey......

I don't know what I've been told (this is not a march tune), but it seems that a "trendy" Westerner will likely indulge in a salad whereas if you asked most Asians to eat salad they'd probably first ask you to explain what a salad is.

Aussie Ham and Lamingtons are hardly Asian, I think you missed the sarcasm.

Sure, but if we're talking more substantial fare then you're still going to get shot down by others in this thread for claiming the Western options have been fulfilled by virtue of providing ham (arguable if from Australia) and lamingtons.

In any case, you haven't said what was on the burger.

Of course, I may not be understanding the irony you're leading on here (in case that burger looks nothing Asian in it, except maybe the leaves).

Hardly, I did mention Pasta as well and that's not including the salads etc. FWIW the Ham is labelled Australian Ham and tastes like the Ham I am used to, bottom line is there are a remarkable range of western options for a lounge in Asia.
