The Qantas Singapore Lounge

....bottom line is there are a remarkable range of western options for a lounge in Asia.
Really? So you think some ham, cheese, sauteed mushrooms, some cold pasta, some tomato, some cucumber are a remarkable range of western options for a lounge in Asia?

I may stay longer next time I visit....

Someone is in a hard to please mood tonight!

No. Someone else is being cheeky.

There are more than enough western people passing through the Singapore lounge to warrant a western choice main meal every day/night instead of butter chicken, Moroccan lentils, stir fry slop with rice etc.

Not too difficult to have one of these choices daily. Roast beef, roast lamb, lamb chops/cutlets, roast pork, fish etc. And you never know the minority of Asians that visit the lounge may even be interested in one of these choices some of the time.

I was in the SG lounge on Friday, yes, had the Asian slop, with extra chillies, it was good. Stir fry something, added some pork belly (sounds Australian)

Moved on to the Emirates lounge, had the prawns, satay, fish salad and Veuve...

I dont think the SG lounge is Asia centric, but I'm glad it is. Bloody oath, I'm in SG, no interest in western food at all.
Had a great meal at Super Peking Duck at Paragon the night before, would be disappointed if it was catered to my home tastes:cool:

Cheers
BF

JohnK, don't forget the Hamburgers with real bacon, and the Pasta I mentioned was a hot dish (aka your "main meal") not a salad dish which I tend not to pay much attention to.

When you have a good look its surprising the range of food on offer,( especially considering this is a pay to use lounge in essence) in Asia, and as far as that classification goes it would have to be the best lounge out there. Burger King is on the way to the gate if you still feel like some trans fats ;).

I'm the opposite. I live in SG and love the food here, but in the QF lounge it's nice to get taste of home. My rational is that I can get fantastic local food for $5 either at the airport itself (landiside or airside) or at a seemingly infinite number of places near my home or work. The first time I visited the QF lounge they had some really nice beef ribs (the western option), plus array of Asian "inspired" dishes, but ever since I have only seen hot Asian dishes. One hot western option is not that unreasonable to expect given the set-up in the lounge. Although it sounds like they do have something western back on the menu now, which is a positive.

The Crème brûlée made a mighty fine Western main when it featured

Its an alternative to the club sandwiches, distributed by staff around 1900-1930.
Thanks. Is that only in the "restaurant" seating area, or do they offer throughout the entire lounge area? Not sure I will be there at that time - depends if anyone wants to meet me for dinner in Singapore proper :)

They offer it through the entire lounge.

Met up with Markis10 the other day, and I'm sure he'll vouch for the amazing service provided by Sue on the front desk.

Ensured my AirPrint document printed, collected it for me, scanned it and then emailed it to me as well. Better than a secretarial service.

Food was decent as usual, and I feel that the lounge is world class for a non-first lounge.

And thanks to Red Roo for sorting out an issue I had with my flight remember.

Lounge opening hours means I never get to sample the lounge. SIN is my usually transit lounge and most of my oneworld flights are early in the morning. Oh well!

Didn't see anything on offer last night. I was there from about 4:30pm to 7:15pm and then again 9:30pm until closing at 11pm. But just because I didn't see it does not mean there was nothing available. I was meeting someone for dinner at 7:30 anyway, so was not actively seeking substantial food in the lounge.

You can't rate a lounge world class if there are not adequate western food options (pasta and dessert does not count) and there are no internet facilities for those without an iPad.

If Bangkok airways can do it then I think it should be simple for Qantas.

Dunno. Can't blame QF if you're a Luddite who is afraid of change though, can you? I feel there's enough western options and they have wifi for laptops. You don't need an iPad.

But World class should surely cater for everyone.

Or maybe not....

John I agree it should cater for all however I personally have found this not to be the case in the QF Singapore Lounge. Hence why myself and Mrs Ansett only go there when there is no other Option. A lounge should be subdued and relaxing NOT a factory feel
