The Qantas Singapore Lounge

John I agree it should cater for all however I personally have found this not to be the case in the QF Singapore Lounge. Hence why myself and Mrs Ansett only go there when there is no other Option. A lounge should be subdued and relaxing NOT a factory feel

Sometimes I think my expectations are too high. And yes I may well be a luddite but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Is my expectation outraeous?

No not atall ours is the same a place to relax and enjoy good food that caters for many tastes not just Asian. It should feel special not as if one is out on the streets. After all we go for status in order to enjoy some exclusivity and relaxation. To me the Singapore lounge is no better than Raffles long bar on a Friday or Satrurday, Busy Noisy and not a huge choice.

Last night Emirates Singapore lounge offered far superior options. Prawns, chicken satay, medium rare steak and an insane cheese an sweets selection. A staff member was consistently floating around the food and beverage area offering assistance to all. I'm converted.

Heading to EK now

tonight was a beef quay teau (sp?) (more of a broth, not spicy) and Gong Bao chicken (some kick).

tried both- very nice.

I think if we can all agree on one thing, the new lounge is better than the old lounge (overall; a couple of components notwithstanding).

I still don't see how it could be so crowded when QF simply doesn't have a huge amount of traffic going through SIN compared to when it had the routes to Europe stopping there.

You have a capacity of about 1600 plus people leaving within a few hours of eachother every night... plus Jetstar passengers. It seems logical to me.

The first one you talk about is often spelt "kway teow". Normally sold in hawker stores in the stir fried version rather than the broth, but the beef broth one you had looks great. Tasty stock, beef, a bit of mint, coriander and shallots and a little citrus. A simple but satisfying preparation; excellent if you have a cold or flu.

The second one, I am guessing, is more commonly referred to as "kung pao chicken" (also transliterated as "gong bow"). It's been served on QF Y a couple of times before, though no where near the "traditional" or "proper" recipe. The one you received has the Szechuan chilli, which, along with the numbing Szechuan pepper (not in this dish), can be quite hot, especially if you eat the chilli itself.

I checked the spelling and it's as printed in the menus.

I have seen Kway teau can be spelt in many ways- it's better to simplysay it.

As for Johnk he will now know to get on QF6 so he has time for the EK lounge.;)

Here they have "Grilled Beef" with mashed potatoes and steamed beans.

He might draw the line at hot and sour prawns though ...

Looks like they don't change the menus that often.
Pass through SIN last Sun 27oct and that beef noodles and kung pao chicken was on the menu too.
must say i enjoyed their salad bar much better... was disappointed they did not have a curry in the asian section...

The Luddites ran riot breaking machines and attacking people because they were afraid of technology. I cannot think of any possible way that can be considered good.

Now this, along with a more relaxing atmosphere in the lounge, is why I much prefer the EK Lounge over the QF Lounge and not to mention Champagne V Sparkling :D

That would depend on what time I get in from KUL but either QF6 or QF52 should leave more than enough time for the EK lounge.

I still think the Qantas lounge can provide one western food option such as steak and a desktop for internet access.

I am offering to take one of the SYD business lounge desktops to SIN for them with my baggage allowance and connect it up to the free wifi on offer....

Was in the Singapore Lounge on Sunday night. Dining options were the Kway Teow soup or the Gong Bao Chicken with rice. I had the latter which was hot, fresh and tasty - extra spicy as requested. I was probably disappointed in the range of food on offer although the quality was very good. First time in the Singapore Lounge for me and all in all I found it just fine, although admittedly another guest I was chatting to commented it was the quietest he had seen it, and he was a regular.

Dropped across to the BA Lounge just to compare it. Walked in and straight out - what a sad, sad lounge that is by comparison. Limited food and drink options and a coughpy atmosphere IMO.

I'm back in a couple of weeks so I'll check out the EK Lounge then.

While the Qantas Lounge food was good, I had a hankering for one last laksa, and was disappointed it wasn't on the menu, so I wandered across to an elevated food hall nearby. I had a Hainanese Chicken rice instead. $5 SGD and good quality. I was surprised at how cheap the airport food prices were - At Sydney Airport they would probably charge at least $20 for the same meal.

I think the Singapore Lounge is better than the Sydney or Brisbane J lounges, but of course, not in the same league as the Sydney F Lounge.

I'm guessing that QFFs can access the EK lounge prior to a QF flight but can only use the QF lounge when departing on a 3K/JQ flight?

MH_fan,
Think thats correct

Thanks. Will be doing my first SYD-SIN run in a few weeks (thanks to .br). Looking forward to seeing the QF Singapore lounge for the first time at the end of this month when I connect from QF81 to my 3K flight and then checking out the EK lounge on my way back on QF6. What time does the EK lounge in SIngapore open? I read somewhere that it's 6pm?
