Oh and your comment about being a collect of villages is laughable when you compare one council for Brisbane versus multiple councils for all the other so called cities. Every word you utter proves you do not have the first clue about Brisbane. Your mind is stuck in Sydney while you body is at work during the week. As such your comments need to be dismissed, as they border on the ludicrous.

My, my you are very defensive.

I have tried all the things you suggest. I have lost count of the number of times place has closed befor 9:00pm.

Any visitor into the city of Brisbane has to be forgiven for thinking they are staying in a village.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. So let me have my opinion without trying to correct me at every opportunity.

I just don't agree with people who can't say what they really mean. In this case you are not bothered. That's your choice. But, once again, your choice does not mean these things don't exist. I have no problem with your opinion, provided you actually correctly state your opinion instead of making general statements that are demonstrably wrong.

Then I'll add in your statement here about visitors to Brisbane. It supports my view that you've acted as a visitor to the city. That's your choice but again the experience of a visitor is not the same as someone who actually lives in the city. Engages by living there. All of which means your opinion needs to be placed in the proper context as that of a visitor who can't be bothered.

Done some of my best work with "friends" that I met well after 9pm in Brisbane ;)

Some time ago now however, I'm guessing I could still find something to do these days......

So you are stating that you are entitled to an opinion and others are entitled to an opinion as long as others do not have an opinion on your opinion?

That seems rather hypocritical...

I like the notifications on the AFF app just updated. Took me a while to work out how to reply on a thread though. :)

Far from it.

In my opinion Brisbane is a dump. Why try to correct me? Why tell me I am wrong and then quote some isolated cases where Brisbane has an active social life. In case Brisbane's image as the "The place that always sleeps" is tarnished by yet another person.

Indooroopilly, Taringa, Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton, Brisbane City, Spring Hill all have very limited opportunities to socialise. The places that do remain open past a certain hour (such as the Victory, Regatta, Royal Exchange) are full of drunk kids who cannot control themselves. I simply do not want to hang around Fortitude Valley past sundown.

And I am sure if I tried hard enough there is an active social life in Logan, Ipswich and Caboolture as well. No thanks.

Brisbane is half the size of Sydney and Melbourne yet the opportunities to socialise in adult surroundings is very minimal.

I was here on the weekend a couple of weeks ago. On Sunday I returned a car to Avis, Fortitude Valley and walked across to Hertz in Charlotte St to pick up another car. This was at 9:00am. I think I saw about 10 people in that 15-20 minute walk. It is a city for crying out loud.

I have been here for 5 years now. I am tired of trying. It is not just whinging as some people seem to think. There is a lot of truth to what I am saying but you are quite free to see it any other you like.

By the way there is a reason Brisbane has the image "The place that always sleeps" and it has nothing to do with a few "ill-informed" people like me spreading rumours on the internet....

Why try to correct me?

Because other people have an opinion too?

Why tell me I am wrong and then quote some isolated cases where Brisbane has an active social life.

It's not much different to your telling people with contrary opinion that they are wrong and you also giving the handful of cases you have.

I have to say that although it's not bouncing everywhere in Brisbane, there are certainly places where one can socialise that do not involve loud music. And they are not entirely contained in Fortitude Valley, either.

But that's not the point. The point I was making was that you have an opinion and others do, too. You always complain that people rebutting your opinion is equivalent to their attempting to denounce or deprive your right to an opinion, when this is far from the case. If you cannot stand your opinion being rebutted (or risk being rebutted), then I'd question whether you should give an opinion in the first place.

OMG JohnK..
What are you thinking..?
In some ways Brisbane is perhaps not the most enchanting city.. I do spend considerable time showing various international clientele the better parts of Brisbane
These are often well travelled individuals whom wish to appreciate the friendliness & interaction with locals whilst enjoying some of the Queensland seafood & steak restaurants. A question often asked.. Surprisingly most of my clients seem to prefer Queensland than other Cities in Australia..
Why? I often ask.. Responses vary, though as a 'common denominator".. It is usually the laid back casual friendliness that is so very scarce in the Australian cities of today.. Much equal observant values of the well kept heritage buildings & cleanliness of Brisbane.
Over the past years Brisbane has evolved into a very vibrant City filled with positive life & modern attributes, perhaps not on a scale of Sydney or other more cultured cities, though I genuinely feel proud to present the lovely & unique assets of Brisbane inclusive of its rich heritage values & human element.
I am originally from Sydney & also appreciate the physical & cultural elements of that city as well, though Queensland being mostly my home for now, I have become entrenched with the community & its wonderful diversity, whilst basking in the unpredictable weather patterns that are to be endured in Queensland, but yes you are well entitled & respected for your opinion.. :D
Thanks for your contributions..

Perhaps JohnK should tell us what would make Brisbane a more "active" city?

And I think we are specifically speaking about outside normal business hours in this current debate?

When I first lived in Melbourne I was also surprised at how quiet the CBD gets after hours. Until someone told me all the action happens in suburbs on the CBDs fringes.
