The human type. Both my neighbour and I have sent her on her way but she's taken that as an invitation to let herself into my front yard and fill her bag with goodies. She actually comes prepared with a bag

Strange. Probably a freegan or someone else who thinks that things should be free.

At least she's taking something I'm not so keen on eating; someone pinched an entire pot of basil from my back deck over summer. Two gates and two dogs were no deterrent.

I was a former police officer and do not want to serve on jury duty. I've never been called but if I was I wonder if I could say during selection "police never take anyone to court unless they're guilty'. Probably would get me a warning from the judge/magistrate. But I kinda think it's somewhat true.

You wouldn't be accepted onto a panel, same with the good husband.

Really? Phew. Except husband was called up but avoided it as he was an official on the Olympic Team and about to leave for Korea.

Someone has it in for you!

I must be known as the place to get fruit and veg. Back fence was broken by someone trying to reach my peach tree, and a few years ago lost an entire crop of broccoli and cauliflower. Getting new fences and a lockable gate built shortly....

I used to live close to a lady who grew honeydew in her garden. She had nice melons.

Sorry couldn't help myself.

Seems weird for people to knock off fruit and veg. I've heard of people doing the honesty box thing then getting ripped off by ungrateful idiots, but this is something else.

Are you sure you haven't got a treasure cache buried underneath your garden? Or, a body?

I don't know if I could sleep well knowing people were creeping around in my backyard.

No treasure, or bodies for that matter...

I don't know if I could sleep well knowing people were creeping around in my backyard.

I think it happens during the day. It's funny when people don't realise I work at home and pop out the door and startle them. If anyone creeps around at night they might just meet my hockey stick... :p But seriously, I wish people weren't so dishonest.

Plenty of times where Coppers manipulated evidence/testimony to get convictions.

Apparently I've got a trespassing fruit-thief. She's been chased away three times already but now comes in to my yard...

Considering it is now winter in MEL, I can only guess the fruit taken is lemons. I have neighbours that have fruit trees that are near my fence who never pick them. Hey if if they don't want that fruit, why can't collect that fruit and ferment it...

As you would. Just like people come prepared with scissors on their nightly walk.

Mum has lovely roses, dahlias, chrysanthamums and people used to cut them. Suffice to say there is now a 1+ metre high wire mesh on top of the fence so I would love to see people come inside the front yard. And both gates are padlocked Mothers Day weekend as the lazy sods cannot be bothered to buy flowers. Just as well the orchids are in the backyard.

And dad has a great vegetable garden and for a time there the next door neighbours used to break the back gate down to steal tomatoes.

Nope, feijoas. Lemon tree had a super haircut so it's got no fruit. Apparently feijoas can be up to $2 each at the supermarket (if they have them at all). Tempted to hand this lady a bill next time I see her.

i was wondering why there hadn't been any fruit to collect this week for friends that like them; I guess now I know!

JohnK, I've also had a midnight pruner. Took offence to a weeping bottlebrush and cut it back to the trunk.

I can only comment about my jury duty. Very easy. One month of service for about 400 people. Put into groups of about 40 people. Check the paper each day and attend the court if called. I was required to attend 3 times. First time go home; second time go into court but I was rejected (not sure of it was by defence of prosecution); third time was in the last week of my service period, they said its be a big case and anyone who had something important on after the end of the week should tell them. I had an army exercise to attend and they just told me to go home.

Overall jury service is nothing.

What sort of thief is it?

I have a flock of coughatoos that visit every morning & afternoon that take delight in thieving my free range chickens food.
Thinking a scarecrow might do the trick
I have a walnut tree a couple of paces from my back door. Do you think I get any fresh, sweet walnuts off it?

No, but I get plenty of sassy coughatoos. I wouldn't mind sharing - they can have the high ones - but they come along about a week or so before the nuts are ready for me to eat and polish off every last one.
