Anyone else having issues with Optus?

Home phone cactus. Broadband and mobile broadband constantly dropping connection.

They are aware of the issues. Is that good enough service?

Muchly across Australia since early this morning - affecting us poor Virgin Mobile customers as well ... :(

Our home phone had been cactus for 5-6 days, broadband since yesterday and mobile broadband for 5-6 days as well.

I tried to get Internet at two different addresses (one coastal, one fairly inner city). Neither could have any optus connection other than 3G wireless.

Hopeless.

Not at my desk :)

Just when I think I am on top of things, I get a swift back-hander.

Missed out on a job I thought I had a good chance for. So much for that part of my career progression.

*sad face*

The real downer is that I was the only applicant. When I get back from leave I will sit down with them and discuss what my (perceived) shortcomings were.

Good luck with the feedback. I have been close with a couple of roles over the past few years and have had no useful feedback. It is a grinding process.

It's a really difficult market (although some don't accept that) at the moment and perhaps it was the circumstances and not a reflection on you.

Yep - very much so. More interviews don't make for more experience either - finding that I really need to focus on the interview rather than just going through the motions again. I have been doing things like getting my shoes shined or getting a barer shave just before so I feel like I am more present for the interview.

Brother mentioned Broadband has been OK today in Sydney.

I have not used mobile broadband since last night.

Hopeless just about sums it up.

Because we run a business that operates Australia wide we wouldn't dream of using Vodaphone nor Optus. There is no room for second best and our friends who run on second class systems cannot even get a signal on their mobiles in places where we have full reception.
The cost of a missed call that was important is not something we could afford.

I'm with Optus and was missing many calls. I had a new iPhone latest model. Turns out it was the phone and not Optus and it was immediately replaced.

Telstra is not brilliant in SA country. We can get an Optus signal in a country shack we have but not Telstra.

My nephew had Vodafone. Dreadful coverage. He had a secondary land line on his Vodafone and Vodafone rang that number saying that they could never reach the mobile phone number (nephew had lodged a complaint). Well derr, why do you think he lodged a complaint?

The employment market is very difficult at the moment and not much comfort but you have to keep plugging away. I just wish that people in high places would come down and see what it is really like.

I am currently on Vodafone and in my house can make calls in the kitchen but not the dining room and heaven forbid I move anywhere whilst on a call. Did a test run with a Telstra prepaid sim - perfect clarity. I even tested the broadband 3G speeds and Vodafone was left for dead. Next iPhone release we will be moving to Telstra.

Am with Optus and due to living in the lee of a small hill, mobile reception is patchy - but fine if I stand on the top if my letterbox (it's a large solid brick one, but I can see the jokes formulating in your minds :D).

Got issues with our wireless network ATM, think we need to replace it. Better get my IT guy to check it out

Power down, power up, $300 cheque please for callout LOL

It's like debugging software problems on computers.

Restart, reload... pay me, please.

Oh for the old days when you didn't reload the entire OS to debug software problems. It's like the old car mechanic that actually opens up the vehicle; whereas the new mechanic tells you to buy a new car.

*snip*

I don't think you can just tell us you have stood on your letterbox to make phone calls, Lindsay, without expanding on the details:

Do you have to lift one leg in the air? (if so, does it matter which one?)

What about if you are wearing a cap? :(

Is it inconvenient doing this when it's raining? ;)

Enquiring minds, as they say, want to know!

Could I have some recommendations for internet service?

Optus I was with and was quite happy but can only offer wireless at my new address which I wont use (previous issues with slow speeds on wireless).

It's home use only, no massive downloads or streaming or anything. Our last plan was 30+30 GB which was adequate.

Dont need a home phone, wont pay extra for one if the overall cost is greater than a "naked" service.

TIA.

Hmm, if Optus can't give you ADSL then I expect you may find most of the ADSL providers are in the same boat. Before going too far into researching other ISPs, I suggest you check with Telstra to see if they can offer ADSL in your location. If not, then there is little point asking any other providers. It may be a case of wireless being your only viable option.

Not necessarily, there may be no ports available as opposed to a pair gain/RIM issue, the DSLAm footprint for iiNet/Primus and TPG does differ significantly from Optus both in footprint and port density.
