Hamish & Andy are in Japan. They'll let anyone in, obviously. How do these muppets get a prime time spot?

No idea, SE Asia certainly doesn't need to see another few 1000 idiots trashing the place inspired by these guys

What we woke up to on Saturday morning,

Been off the grid for a couple of days without internet access at Cradle Mountain!

I don't mind so much driving in snow, sleet that's hardened into ice is another matter though!

Candy Mountain oops Cradle Mountain is really nice. That's the first time I saw snow ... in December. It was not falling but it was on the ground.

Cradle mountain is rad! Although I should clarify that the shot's above are Miena in the Central Highlands rather than Cradle.

I hadn't been around those parts for about 9 years, riding shotgun in an LX Torana trying to negotiate the snow rather than the trusty X-trail!

Any Doctor who fans out there
I only got into Doctor who recently but absolutely love the show and eagerly await the new doctor Peter Capaldi.

Overheard coversation between FA and the guy in row 1 of my LST-MEL flight yesterday. He was going to ADL and then OLP.

That would be an interesting commute. He is on an 8 on 6 off roster and mentioned that he wasnt getting into OLP until 5:30pm which is a long trip even though flights are short. Wonder if he is on AFF?

Got me thinking whether I would be willing to commute to a different place for a change.

Poor sod. Strange roster. Lots up there are on 4/4 5/5 type rosters.

I'm not FIFO but I wish my rosters were as predictable as FIFO rosters seem to be. As long as I don't work more than 12 days in any 14 day period, have 11 hours between shifts & aren't rostered for more than 8 hrs 33 minutes, I could be working any variation.

The wife and kids love it,the last guy was way too ugly. It's a lot better now than when I was a kid for sure

I have a feeling that this thread may spin out of control. It is a bit unbalanced as it is.
I know people are trying to be funny using recycled jokes but this thread has been spinning out of control since it was created and will continue to spin out of control.

Since I've been here, I've been surprised at how much this thread hasn't really touched the main aim of the site,

It's been a good way for me to get to know some people here a little bit.

He seemed like he was happy with that roster.

If it was me I would want to reduce the number of times I commuted so working something like 10-14 days would be desirable. I have met guys overseas who are on 28/28 rosters and they like it. The 28 days on is like being in a retreat with no alcohol and getting up to mischief.

I actually rejected a job that was 2 days on day shift, 1 and half off then 2 days night shift! :-|

I don't mind afternoon or night shift but regular switching between day and night is a pain in the cough.

I work two days followed by two nights, then four off. You get used to it.

How did our parents handle it?

My father worked in a factory 1 week day shift, 1 week afternoon shift and 1 week night shift with overtime here and there.

I used to work 7 nights in a six week roster. It took me 1.5 weeks to get out of the night shift sleep routine. I loved the work of nightshift, but not the impact on my body.

Edit: I have heard from a few on your roster that it isn't that hard on the body.

I explained it to them rationally... Basically they didn't pay me enough for the ****ty work hours that will cause harm to your health which has been proven by a number of studies of those involved in shift work.

The problem with most if these rosters is they don't align to normal weekday rosters. So if your family friends are working 5/2 it becomes very hard to plan things with them because your not sure when you'll be off on weekends.

That guy is working 12 hour shifts as well.

And you get your Clayton's. ;)

It think its irrelevant how our parents handled work, the world is not the same as it once was, when I was an ATC I could have a 1700 start, a 0900 start and 0600 start and a 2230 start all in the one week, with the 0630 and 2230 on the same day, one of the reasons I left, and I still feel the effects today.

I was going to chip in with my 2 bob's worth but I think I'll keep my powder dry until this load's run its full cycle.
18 years is impressive life for a washing machine.

I agree - we have a dryer that is going on 18 years old and still works like a charm (and we've always been a no-clothesline house - and now have three kids, to boot - so it's well and truly had a flogging...).
