The totally off-topic thread

I work 14/7. A week of days, a week of nights, and a week off. 14 hour days.

I'd love a 8/6 roster, especially if it was days only, I don't like night shift. I'm afraid of the dark.

I couldn't believe that my brother gave up a 1/1 roster. The travel was minimal - Emerald/Sunshine Coast.

My first "winter" with the panels - the big lemon-scented gum at the northern corner has sprouted back in all the wrong ways after getting hammered by Yasi - it needs a big haircut as it is shading the lower row of panels in the afternoon. :(

You're on the right track shadowing of solar panels must be minimised as the effect of even a little shading is quite pronounced on your systems overall performance.

I'm watching Air Crash Investigation in the mealroom at my Place of Employment. Is that on topic or off topic? ;)

Just received this from the SIL.

Have told them countless times how to make the CC work for them........she's pretty pleased with herself:(

Even a tiny bit of shading will put that whole panel out.

In many ways I totally agree. I'm not sure we had it harder in every way (I'm older than you :) ) and in some ways kids have it harder now.
You are not that much older than me.

I see what my parents went through and I look at what I had to go through in life and it is like chalk and cheese. I admire them for what they have achieved from nothing. They worked hard. They sacrificed.

On the other hand they gave me a head start in life and I have achieved nothing. Enough said....

Chainsaw should already be working - don't muck about......shade is a killer.

Have had 4 days in a row of >30kw first time thats happens since it got switched on.
The chainsaw is primed and ready to go but I need a pretty serious lift platform to get up to the canopy.
Looking at the input differences on the two inputs the shade really is a killer!

JohnK I had a whole day like that but I did flog off some stock market duds so I can watch them go up tomorrow.

Please do not tell me she spent all those points at Flight Centre for such measly value?

Does CommBank Awards hook up to KrisFlyer? Or is it only Qantas and Velocity? (I can't remember myself, because I'm on Qantas Direct)

~135k miles / points in any of those programmes is a sizeable amount.

I assume she's one of those people who does not care for Business or First class travel.

It's very frustrating......they've burnt so many points on cough. They are the perfect bank/cc customer.

You can lead a horse to water......

I'm also QF direct.........exactly, 135k is a good amount of points.

Guess she might be a bit frustrated for a few reasons:
  • QF don't have a great image in general; she might be disenchanted to sweep it to Qantas.
  • If she sweeps to Velocity, she may be very confused on how to spend it (some unheard airlines, like Etihad).
  • 135k points will at best get her a return in Y (on EY probably - best option, least YQ). She can't get a return in J for that.
  • Redeeming mileage is very much maligned in public. We know how to do it; it's very difficult to convince other people that it can be done much easier than they believe (viz. impossible). Probably doesn't help, but I'm guessing she has no status.

Yes, we can tell people otherwise, but they content themselves however they want to use their points (or money for that matter).

The reactions we get from them when we tell them they could be flying Business or First class are not as obvious as you think; some people really don't care, even if you explain to them the "benefits".

I don't think she's been on a plane for 10 odd years. They talk about travel but never seem to go anywhere.

I Married the right sister:D
