11. The three most important things a good airline lounge needs are (in order)......

Laptop power/good wifi, comfortable seats, decent food

12. Which of the three major oceans have you crossed? And in which order and direction (i.e. east/west)?

Atlantic (both directions), Pacific (both directions)

13. Have you ever flown international First class (on any airline)? If so, describe the first time.

No, never seen the other side of the curtain. I've only ever really flown economy (except for the time a friend in QANTAS Ticketing got me a visit from the Flight Customer Service Manager on a trip BNE-AKL-LAX and he invited me up for 45 minutes with the captain and first officer, then dropped me in business for the rest of the trip.

14. Describe the last time you had to use stairs (rather than an aerobridge) for an international flight.

ORD, I think. Transferring terminals, and had to go down to the transfer bus

15. Boeing or Airbus?

I have to admit I like the Airbuses.

16. Have you ever celebrated a significant event whilst in the air (e.g. birthday, etc.)?

Does trying to save someone's life count? :p

17. Is there an airline which uses your initials as its 2-letter IATA designator?

It turns out there is! FlyMe - it's now defunct.

18. Describe the most turbulent flight you have ever been on.

SYD-MEL on DJ - landing in a hail storm - the hail looked like sheets of ice as we passed through it. It was amazing (and bumpy!)

19. In your opinion, which is the best international passenger airport in the world?

I would have to say Singapore. If you're out with the plebs (like I was as a student!), "The Oasis" is fantastic. I spent ages in their massage chairs and then checked my email.

20. What is your most preferred WHY refreshment item on a QF "Refreshment" domestic flight?

Diet Coke. Every time. They need Coke Zero!

Re: Some silly and survey questions (just to kick this thread around)

And because I didn't do this one before (or I did, and the website chewed up the response!):

Random, probably silly questions, to fill up some posting space here. Some are 'survey' like questions. I just didn't want to post them in the "silly questions" thread.

Tea, coffee or neither? If something, how do you have it?

I drink them all, and in every form. Always without sugar, but can be with or without milk. Never pays to have the same thing all the time.

"You're saying that my checked baggage is 15 kg and my carry-on is 12 kg and you're telling me I have to transfer 5 kg out of my carry-on into my checked baggage?? What's the difference? It's all going on the same plane and it's all the same weight!" An oft spouted remark, especially from my dad. Discuss and debate.

There probably is a reason for it (aircraft weighting, etc.). That said, I think that the inflexibility is there deliberately to allow excess charging. After all, that's what LCCs are about, aren't they? Making you pay for everything extra.

Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik.

Rank them in priority order of visiting (from most desired to visit down to least desired to visit).

Stockholm (have friends there), Oslo (on the way to other friends in Northern Norway), Copenhagen (go and visit Mary and Frederick and the kids, eh?), Reykjavik (go and do the same silly dance that Matt Harding does), Helsinki.
LHR {T1, T2, T3, T4, T5} ; LGW {South, North} ; LCY ; LTN ; STN.

Of all of those, which have you visited?

I can't remember. Whichever UA/SQ flies into and out of.
What is your favourite airline which is not a main member of any of the three major global alliances (i.e. Sky Team, Star Alliance or oneworld)?

Emirates. I can credit the points to UA.

For a free Economy ticket good for domestic travel up to 1200 miles, would you be an FA for a flight in the SYD/MEL/BNE triangle?

Absolutely - I have many friends that are flight attendants with QF and I'd love to be able to walk in their shoes for a while, just to see what it's like.

Why are flights to/from MEL always turbulent?

Not always.

Have you been to AVV? If so, why did you do it?

No. I try to fly JQ as little as possible. I don't see the point in wasting an hour trying to get back into Melbourne after a flight. At that point, I might as well drive to Melbourne from Sydney!

If I had to fly JQ to Melbourne, I would drive to NTL and do NTL-MEL.

Have you ever been on a now-retired JQ Boeing 717?

Yes, back on Impulse airlines - I can't remember where I flew though!

What is your standard breakfast from the Domestic QP breakfast offering? (Note this is the standard "lowly" QP, not the JL)

I have a real thing for the Bircher Muesli. I can't stop eating it with those replumped dried apricots!

After that, if they have Turkish bread, I'll eat that untoasted, otherwise, I'll just have coffee and fruit salad.

Having just done that all in red, I feel like rodgerbranch now.

11. The three most important things a good airline lounge needs are (in order)......
a comfy and available seat, a decent (complimentary) red, some palatable food
12. Which of the three major oceans have you crossed? And in which order and direction (i.e. east/west)?
Atlantic WB, Pacific EB, Pacific WB, Atlantic EB
13. Have you ever flown international First class (on any airline)? If so, describe the first time.
Dec 1969 on a QF 707 SYD-SIN (they gave me as much free coke as I wanted) :D
14. Describe the last time you had to use stairs (rather than an aerobridge) for an international flight.
LHR 8 years ago, probably a CP arrival, nice tour of taxiways hangars and general plane-dodging
15. Boeing or Airbus?
No matter, much more time spent on Boeing
16. Have you ever celebrated a significant event whilst in the air (e.g. birthday, etc.)?
NTIR :(
17. Is there an airline which uses your initials as its 2-letter IATA designator?
Yes!! COPA (Panama)
18. Describe the most turbulent flight you have ever been on.
AA 1978 - a hopper BWI-BNA-MEM-DFW-LAX. We may have changed planes in DFW but before that it was, IIRC, a DC-9, flying through a storm and it creaked and groaned and lurched so much I thought it was going to fall apart. Turbulent landing was in HBA on JQ - the crosswind ws blowing us every which-way, the plane was even rocking when parked.
19. In your opinion, which is the best international passenger airport in the world?
SIN
20. What is your most preferred WHY refreshment item on a QF "Refreshment" domestic flight?
Muffin

answers above (I had to write this line or it would not let me post)

  4. LHR {T1, T2, T3, T4, T5} ; LGW {South, North} ; LCY ; LTN ; STN.

  5. What is your favourite airline which is not a main member of any of the three major global alliances (i.e. Sky Team, Star Alliance or oneworld)? Was East-West :)
  6. For a free Economy ticket good for domestic travel up to 1200 miles, would you be an FA for a flight in the SYD/MEL/BNE triangle? Only if the stockings were supplied.
  7. Why are flights to/from MEL always turbulent? They know you're on them anat0l ;)
  8. Have you been to AVV? If so, why did you do it? To pick up parents arriving from (I think) OOL
  9. Have you ever been on a now-retired JQ Boeing 717? Nup
  10. What is your standard breakfast from the Domestic QP breakfast offering? (Note this is the standard "lowly" QP, not the JL) Bread/Toast w. jam/honey. Tea.

You don't know? I'm a big fan of his work, and I knew it was only a matter of time before there were imitators, and beardoc hasn't let me down. But still, only a pale imitation of the original.

Yes, apparently I'm very good at misinformation in the Amex thread.

Re: Some silly and survey questions (just to kick this thread around)

But he's tried really hard thus far

Yes, I will grant you that he has got the colour scheme down, but a long way to go in the misinformation stakes !

Re: Some silly and survey questions (just to kick this thread around)

Still yet to master the art of creative interpretation of the T&C's though.

You call it "creative interpretation" - I call it "pulling ideas straight out of my a..."

And yes, I am but a lowly student compared to the master.

The thing is, I think he's having fun with it now - he seems to be more obvious about being obviously amused at setting the cat amongst the pigeons now.

I agree - it seems to me that is exactly what he does. 'tis an art form.
