I'm watching TV. I just read the QFF URL foreveryjourney as "forever Y journey" & not "for every journey"

Oops.

We really enjoyed Charlie And The Chocolate Factory show in London today. Matilda was another Dahl story brought to life as a stage show and that too is really good.

Apparently someone has damaged my Hertz car in between me dropping it off and it heading to the wash, got a nice bill on the card when I checked last night, luckily I took the time to photograph the car including one clearly showing it in its bay with km done. Should be an interesting morning tomorrow sorting that one out.

That's awful, hope it gets sorted quick! Do you often take a few photos when dropping a car off? I've often wondered about doing this and the best way to do so

I always take photos on pickup and drop off, a couple of times I have noticed damage a few days later and been able to verify it was per existing by the photos, airport offices seem to be the worst for missing damage except for whatever happened yesterday. Often it's underbody near the door where they have parked to close to an obstacle or kerb, the XR6/ SV6 often have it under the front spoiler.

Sitting in the BNE Dom J lounge and the TV monitor which shows flights is 100% with 2 flights, the same plane with 4 code shares! It's been rendered useless!

I'm thinking there needs to be a better way to display codeshares

Hertz car was scratched by some idiot last time I was in London, didn't take the CDW out because Amex cover it so got a $1500 charge on the card and the money into my account by direct deposit 5 days later.

Net result free points :)

Didn't make it down this year.......told the kids it's Disneyland at x-mas or the Ekka - no way I'm doing both!

Getting a bit off-topic here, but if you have had your ticket booked by some travel agent, you are in a foreign land, and your boarding pass displays a certain flight number, you are going to be looking at the departure boards for that flight number. If it doesn't appear, you might think it has been delayed.

The flip side - looking at the planes - has its drawbacks too. I once flew to and from Dunedin for $99 on Freedom Air. A320 over the Tasman, land at what is not much more than a grass strip with sheep grazing on it, look around Dunedin for the weekend and head out to the airport on Monday for my trip home. Went early with a few NZ mates, they got their flights and I was sitting around for an hour or two waiting for my flight back to Oz.

Air New Zealand flights came and went, no Freedom Air bird. I started getting antsy until it dawned on me that that Air New Zealand A320 outside the window was my flight home. It just had the wrong paint job.

So I'm a big fan of putting the codeshares up on the board. The more information for blockheads like me, the better!

Safe travels home! Lovely to meet you at the Ekka. :)

Hmm, we did the Ekka (on People's day!!) and are doing Disneyland in Oct. maybe we're crazy?? But we're only doing Ekka at most every 2nd year now. I actually found myself longing for the relative order of Disneyland while at the Ekka. Yes, there can be heaps of people, but it feels less crazy somehow.
well, except Disney Paris on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend for the Royal wedding in 2011!!

The common practice to economise the space is to display all codeshare flights on one line, with the flight number cycling between each codeshare flight.

The only (minor) problem with this practice is that, assuming most people are booked on the actual operating flight, depending on how many codeshares there are for that flight, it can take a while to cycle back to the first flight number. Most people will look at a board for three seconds or so; some may not appreciate waiting for all the codeshares to appear until they see a repeat.

An alternative approach is to always display the main flight, but then have a note below it saying "Codeshare with <....>", where the <....> section cycles through all codeshare flights. The note line would be indented to help with differentiation. I have to admit I haven't seen this presentation before; probably because most FIDS software is not set up to understand the concept of codeshares (it is not a property which is "registered" about flight numbers in the FIDS system).

Overall, the main struggle to change the system in any case is a requirement to roll out and test new software. Not a great excuse though - there must be easier and better systems you can install off the shelf (at hopefully little cost) and FIDS has got to be an easier system to install than, say, a new check-in system.

People can't figure out that the flight ABC to destination XYZ departing at 1200 could also be flight DEG to destination XYZ departing at 1200?

That would assume that every unique operated flight has a unique departure time (i.e. given two flights, say QFyyy and VAzzz, there are no two flight numbers which share the same departure time).

But overall, I've learned there's little you can assume due to the general stupidity or incompetence of people.

As a colleague said to me recently:

Peeps be stupid.

I've since learnt that this sentence can be easily modified to suit the situation.

We were having an interesting conversation the other day - she has just discovered the benefits of status & lounging by being a guest of another colleague.

It may be an overused or hackneyed phrase, but it holds true in at least the sense that modern design (of services, interfaces, notices etc.) needs to keep some of the ideas emoted into account.

It's an uncomfortable and somewhat unfortunate consideration (though you could probably equally argue the same point from a different and more positive perspective).

Stupid people (or people doing stupid things) are the main reason some people have jobs.

I've started packing for Melbourne.

Ok, I've only put my Myki card into my VFF Global Wallet wallet but that's a good start.

I need to buy a new leather jacket this afternoon or tomorrow.
