Funny how things change quickly.

- Current lease expires end September
- Renewal sent early July for another 10 months
- Receive email this morning to vacate by end of lease as owner is thinking of selling

Creep. Now I have to find new place before I go overseas end September.

Or return home but airfares booked through end March.

How much would it sell for?

Edit: what about living in Toowong?

edit2: Still if I lived in Toowong, I'd spend most nights at the Regatta taking in the scenery.

It is zone 2 whereas I am now in Zone 1.

But that is not the issue. I leave the Mill at 9:20am and I am in the office at Toowong at 9:40am. Similarly I leave the office at 7:50pm and I am the Mill at 8:15pm.

That time through the week is important to me.

Toowong, IT..... wouldn't it be funny if you worked at the same place as my nephew who is a software developer (Delphi??)

I know you see Brisbane one way and some others see it another way. I could never compare Brisbane to London (as an example). But you will never resolve the issue until you either accept Brisbane and its quirks. Or leave it. Take your pick. (And yes I realise work does create a dilemma in this situation).

You know I like to joke around some time.

I accepted Brisbane (or my fate) after the first 6 months back in 2008 otherwise I would not be here today. To me the work situation is much more important at this stage in my life. Although in saying that it would be nice to find a job in another city such as Melbourne or Adelaide.

Isn't Adelaide a downgrade from Brisbane?

Mal may remember. He saw an ad last year for a hotel room on sale in this hotel not a private apartment. From memory it was not a lot, guaranteed income but body corporate is ~AUD10,000/year. Private apartment would be a little more expensive.

Toowong is way too expensive unless sharing accommodation which is unlikely. Also not easy to get to coming from the airport so regularly.

City if the perfect place for me. Just need to find the right place quickly.

Why not your hometown?
I can see the attraction of MEL in terms of connections but ADL?

Thank heaven Admin changed the picture of that mature age FA on the AFF home page. I started to have nightmares that she would be at the door everytime I boarded

My nephew tells me there are very few Delphi developers. Not really sure what product(S) he works on although I know one was a specialised piece of software for the construction industry.

Delphi is indeed a strange speciality. Then again I did learn modula-2 in university, turbo pascal in high school and several other irrelevant languages during university and my career.

I work for an insurance company using RPG ILE.

I did learn Paradox many years ago and Delphi was the next step but the motivation was not there.

We used Java as our foundation language all throughout tertiary. Also learnt C for a computer systems course, and Scheme to tutor another subject. The latter one is probably the most esoteric one in my experience.

I also had to learn B AMN language for a software specification course, but that doesn't really count as a language, just really a coded representation of essentially a set of mathematical specifiers.

I tried to learn Prolog because a friend used it extensively, but I couldn't work it out from a process point of view for the life of me.

Home town could work but that could possibly mean a return to the 1hour each way daily commutes.

Adelaide is something of an unknown. I think it is much better than Brisbane and the people at face value appear better.

Apologies to Brisbane but I think not having exposure to Greek and Italian influence has done huge harm to the growth of the city. That is my humble opinion. I know those living here think differently but so be it.

Not enough concrete and paving?

You know there is a lot more to it than that.

They actually contributed to building and furthering Australian society.

See me again in 10 years to see how much further we have degraded. The evidence is there right now although people are walking around with their eyes shut.
