I can't believe hotmail is still around, I thought that it disappeared years ago, along with work ethic, manners, common decency and morals...
You don't like Hotmail?

That is OK. It had a much better interface than Outlook and sh!ts on Gmail but why let that get in the way?

It had or it has?

The old Hotmail.... it was OK. I still preferred Gmail, but then again I'm probably biased because I use Firefox (better supported than Internet Explorer for Gmail; rather vv. for Hotmail) and utilise a few Google Labs extensions to improve my Gmail experience.

Probably the only thing is that as Gmail is used for increasingly long times without being refreshed or closed (talking close to at least 36 hours or days), sometimes the browser starts to kick itself from scripting requests. I'll still take that over the painfully slow load times on Outlook.com, where it seems to take eons to do things like select multiple messages.

Apart from that, when applying for a job, [email protected] looks better than [email protected]. It wasn't such a big deal ages ago when hotmail.com was pretty much the only email account on the block which you could apply for free.

The main thing now is that people often know that you don't give a hotmail address when you apply for a job, much less a hotmail address which looks like your gaming screen name or matchmaking account name.
Hmmm. My professional email address is a Hotmail address. Does it really matter? I signed up in 2000 and I did not use it for online gaming or matchmaking.

I am not going to change my professional address because people look at it in a funny way.

Funny thing is I signed for a dummy Gmail account that gets the spam from matchmaking sites etc.

The new Hotmail is not quite the same. The old interface was much better. They have incorporated some of Outlook into the current interface and I do not like it.

But that is me. At work they are all excited at moving to Google or Google+ from Lotus Notes. I don't see/feel the excitement.

melbourne footy club (AFL) sent me my renewal membership for next year and there is an option to pay extra for a guaranteed grand final seat should we make it!

I think not!

So that somehow clarifies the reason for not 'securing" that six figure executive position.. Must have been the 'ill fitting" hotmail address on my resume?

I should probably qualify that this only applies in some circles.

You have to remember there's a lot of "facade" in applying for a job, unless you have exactly what your employer is looking for (in which case your interview was just a procedure, not a contest).

It may mean little now because most job interviews go beyond the facade, bells and whistles. At some point in time, having a non-Hotmail address looked better on the resume, as did, for those who could afford it, having your own domain email address.

All facetiousness (really?) aside, there's also a number of reasons I prefer Gmail over Microsoft Outlook online / Hotmail, let alone others like Yahoo! Mail.

Wow.. competition seems fierce in the job market nowadays..
I recently had some visiting Singaporean students on a study tour at UQ. We had some visiting guest speakers working in Events Management in Brisbane.
The guest speakers emphasised that they did endless amounts of volunteer work to help in gaining experience & puff up their resume.
My students from Singapore were absolutely dumbfounded that:
A.) People/students actually do unpaid volunteer work in Australia &
B.)
That in Australia it is often not so easy for a graduate to find work in their chosen desired career path.
Not sure how other industries fare though, understandably it appears extremely competitive on the professional job front.

Commence the sounds of people from Perth sookylalaing about the price of flights to Melbourne next week in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Well, I'm betting they are going to be really expensive and it's hardly a quick trip by car, bus or train. Fair enough I'd say.

Any award seats left?

Those with *A miles may also want to consider PER-AKL-MEL :p or PER-SIN-MEL, or even PER-BKK-MEL

As you all probably know by now Fremantle beat Sydney 99-74, the game was a bit more onesided than the Hawthorn v Geelong match, great game for Freo supporters.

Anybody want to look at mileage runs from MEL-PER for next Friday returning Sunday.

If anyone is expecting the usual discount fares from anywhere to/from MEL for Friday or Saturday, they must be dreaming.

Why? Because the government is granting 457 visas to incompetent cheap overseas labour while Australian citizens are out of work.

Sounds fair right? Fills up their quotas?

Am I being harsh?

Anyone have an issue with my statement come and speak to me personally. Come and visit my office in Brisbane so you can witness the incompetence first hand.

I came to Australia on a 457 visa, and later an 856 employer sponsored PR. so basically I'm incompetent?

Just another of your lazy flippant tar everybody with the same brush, the whole works is out to get JohnK remarks.....
